  1. Yeah I think it was for Graffanino...
  2. Sadly enough, I do think that is our ideal situation.
  3. First of all, he never 'explained' his poor numbers by saying Torii was hurt, he just mentioned that he felt he was trying too hard to pull the whole team when Torii went down, and I checked the numbers and they work. Regardless, I hope he'll be hitting #6 (276/.335/.458 over the last 3 years), as that seems to be the best spot in the lineup for him (aside from leadoff which is filled). And we can all pray to Jebus that Dusty doesn't bat him #2, where his line is .225/.299/.350 (over the last three years). Finally, I was just about to hit 'reply' when I saw this. It's not an excuse for poor performance, but it would affect my performance on the field.
  4. .............................................................
  5. If it stays healthy, that's easily the best pitching staff in the NL. Chances of that happening? 40-1
  6. As easy as it is to disparage the Astros 2005 offense, the Cubs were only 10 runs better on the year (703 vs 693). In my opinion, all the more reason to disparage it. I wasn't happy at all with the way the Cubs offense was working, it was firing on about half of it's cylinders, and if you've ever driving a car that needs a new spark plug, you'd know how annoying that is. Derrek Lee is the sole reason we didn't land in fifth place last year.
  7. True, but striking out is better than hitting into a double play. I wish Neifie would have struck out a little more last year. I think that is part of goony's point. A weak roller to the 2nd baseman withh a runnner on first is much worse than a K. I specifically remember cheering on multiple occasions when Neifi would strike out rather than ground into a double play. *shudder*
  8. You have to stop hitting bricks with your head. Back on topic, yes this is true. Even if this season wasn't as bad as his numbers suggest, there are still other years where he didn't have an excuse. But I thought it was interesting how the numbers lined up with Torii's injury.
  9. Yeah I'm not sure why I thought that OBP had any relation to walks, I just calculated it (not using strikeouts) above.... ](*,)
  10. because strikeouts have nothing to do with OBP. #-o
  11. Nevermind.
  12. Hey all, I was wondering if someone could check my stats on this... I was thinking about what Jacque was saying about 'trying to do too much' after Torii Hunter got knocked out of the season at the end of July. So I decided to check his stats by month to see if this had any merit. The results: Jacque Jones Not including Aug, Sept, Oct 351 AB 96 Hits, 16 doubles, 3 triples, 15 HR, 53 RBI, 41 BB, 74 SO, 9 SB, 3 CS, 163 TB Totals: .273 AvG - .349 OBP - .464 SLG The only problem was that I forgot to include HBP and SF into the math, and I can't be bothered to recalculate it all. But as it seems, he was correct because that line is certainly different from his season total of .249/.319/.438. Not saying that this Jones signing is now a stroke of genius, but maybe it's not quite so bad as it appeared to initially be. Also, his home/away stats are interesting. Home: .242/.320/.402 Away: .255/.318/.475 Thoughts?
  13. What's the full title of the book? I'm having trouble finding it...
  14. What about a trade of Neifi for Graffanino?
  15. Hey if the Astros can get to the WS on that offense, surely the Cubs can get there too. Although, as always, it depends on our starters. I'd say we're due though.
  16. I also think Bruce Miles is an amazing reporter.
  17. Hmm...And I thought MacPhail was finally going to let this one go to arbitration...
  18. I'm just going to have to make it out there this year for a game.
  19. Wow. That would be amazing for the Sox. They would surely be the favorites to repeat if that happened.
  20. According to the Daily Southtown: Will Ohman Feb. 3rd Juan Pierre Feb. 14th Carlos Zambrano Feb. 17th I wonder if we're stalling Ohman to show Pierre we mean business?
  21. Wow. This really makes me want to raid the Dbacks of prospects. What holes do they have this year that we can trade to them for some of those juicy prospects... Especially Carlos Quentin. Mmm.....
  22. AHHAHAHHAHA.....hadn't noticed that at all....
  23. Yeah I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out most of that means, in addition to being completely confused by the blog's DER stuff. I looked for an explanation but couldn't find one.
  24. Here ya go Cubs fans! From The View From the Bleachers Included inside: *Fundamental Baseball *Todd Walker *New Players/Prospects *World Baseball Classic
  25. Whether or not Grudz deserved more playing time or not, is another debate. However, that's the primary reason Walker only had 372 at-bats in 2004. While he did have an injury that season, he was there enough to get nearly a full season's worth of plate appearances. I don't think you can count that against him when judging his durability. As for last season, we all know how he got hurt. The only thing that would worry me moving forward is how well his knee will hold up as he ages. Anytime you have an injury like that, there can be lingering effects. That said, the guy has been durable throughout his career. I heard Pat Huges talking about how Walker didn't turn enough double plays before the injury, but then when you add the injury and his reduced range in, he becomes a defensive liability to the extent that it really hurts the team. I think that's the line the Hendry is taking, but not telling anyone. That would also explain why he wanted the option last offseason, and is now looking to trade him.
