  1. Zook has coached in the NFL and Florida, one of the best football schools in D-1A. Wainwright came from a podunk school in NC (Asheville? it doesn't matter), and hasn't done the same things Zook has recruiting wise. UI is one of the worst football programs right now, and he has brought recruits in. Every Depaul coach the last ten years has had no trouble recruiting.
  2. Yeah I know...wth?! I know Bradley was in the NCAAs last year but this is ridiculous. So much for all the hype Bradley was picked to finish 8th in the MVC.
  3. Depaul is a joke.
  4. Giving Alf the money instead of Ramirez would be a terrible move.
  5. Paul Depodesta is certainly not the answer to any of our problems Yeah Penny, Lowe, Drew, and Kent are sure stinkin up the joint. Neither are Barrett, Lee, Ramirez or Jones. Your point? the point is that hendry's had 4 seasons to figure it out and hasn't, while depleting the majority of the minor league system that he himself built. depodesta was given 2 years and fired, while accomplishing everything that hendry had accomplished--he wasn't allowed the time to develop a minor league system (which is what the success in oakland was built around) and was fired before being able to assemble his team. sometimes things have to get worse before they get better. with hendry, they got good (due in part to moves he made and players he had drafted and developed) and then they got way worse, which was directly his fault. depodesta wasn't allowed to build a team. he was allowed to tear down, but not rebuild in his vision. that's totally unfair. the cubs have been very fair with hendry, including giving him a 2-year extension for letting his team get bad. in addition, he's shown no organizational plan other than flying by the seat of his pants, there's no blueprint for going forward or certainty that things will get even slightly better. DePodesta took a good team and made it worse. Unlike Hendry, he inherited a team capable of winning a division. Of all the players he signed or traded for, he overpaid for all of them. He couldn't even find a manager to replace Jim Tracy. In fact, he was one step ahead of Hendry when he entered the organization because he inherited a great minor league system. I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say that DePodesta "accomplished" in his two years everything that Hendry has. To me, DePodesta really accomplished nothing. If you want to replace Hendry with someone who has ties to Billy Beane, that's fine. But there are much better candidates than DePodesta. Also, you say that DePodesta never got to build his vision of a team through his farm system. I think all Dodger fans should be thankful for that. One of his few good moves as GM was keeping Logan White, despite the fact that their philosophies on drafting are completely opposite. Without Logan White, the Dodgers would be a complete disaster. Har Har.
  6. Not everyone likes Jacque Jones. I think I've seen him in EVERY hypothetical trade proposal. That being said, Garcia for EPatt or Murton?
  7. On NYYFANS they're saying the deal in place is Sheff for Garcia. I like Sheff being added to the lineup, but the Sox NEED to get younger, especially with the position players. I suppose it just gives Fields/Sweeney some more time and they'll eventually replace both Dye and Sheff in 08.
  8. I don't see why you guys are so worried. Hendry won't let him go. They need him.
  9. Except he wasn't on roids. Jermaine signed below market value before '05. Reportedly, he had agreed in principle and another team offered him significantly more, but he turned it down. I hope he can replicate his numbers, but if he even puts up .270/.340/.500 it would be cheap.
  10. Vance is just trying to get the conversation rolling. The more I think about it, the more plausible it seems. I'm sure the Tiggers undervalue Bonderman, for some reason. They love their Neifis and Todd Jonessssss of the world.
  11. If the Cubs could pull a deal for Burrell, why not deal Jones and a prospect like Mateo or Marmol for Bonderman? That's crazy. Bonderman would probably command a lot more than JJ.
  12. Now trade Buehrle and Garcia for some prospects and a young SS, please.
  13. Anyone? I've heard this phrase used A LOT lately, and I really don't understand.
  14. If this doesn't make people realize that playoffs are luck and a crapshoot, they're idiots.
  15. What about Zambrano's antics? With respect to umpires, Z and Pujols are moving in opposite directions with their reactions to them. My point was you could go all day about a certain player's character and it's pointless. Pujols is not a bad guy because he doesn't talk to the media/stares at the umpire. Same goes for Zambrano. Hey Voice, since you're so offended by Slaughter being acknowledged, I'm sure you have expressed your dismay in letters to the organization stating your case. Am I right, or have you just wasted your time trying to make a few nice Cards fans feel bad about something they have NOTHING to do with?
  16. Maybe it's just me, but I like this Monday team a lot better than Madden/Michaels.
  17. You guys have to get over to WSI and read their take on this. The Beane haters are out in full force. From the thread... I'm so glad I don't post there. What a joke.
  18. Take away a home game? What? What's the point of putting them at a disadvantage?
  19. I really thought he meant Orlando Hudson, it probably would be a better deal.
  20. Why? Geoff Blum is a valuable Left-handed hitter off the bench. He can pretty much play anywhere on the field. He has some power in his bat, and he puts the bat on the ball. I love his versatility. hehe, no offense to your idea, but every phrase of your post is a "bad player" cliche. :) I said he has some power in his bat, and he puts the bat on the ball. Which is a nice way of saying he doesn't deserve a roster spot.
  21. The White Sox will get involved, and they have the pieces. Crede is exactly the type of third baseman they would prefer. He plays good defense, which they'll overrate; he won a world series, which they'll overrate; he has a "clutch" reputation; which they'll overrate extremely. Yanks get: Garcia/Buehrle, Crede, Broadway WS: AROD, move him back to SS and put Fields at 3rd. PLEEEEEEEEEEEASE
  22. Smallball doesn't exist.
  23. Please take Joey Cora :o I wouldn't mind Ozzie either........
