  1. According to Buster Olney and Jayson Stark the White Sox and Giants are supposedly working on a deal for Jason Schmidt. The Sox would send McCarthy and Anderson for Schmidt, and then in a separate deal acquire a CF. This deal is so lopsided in favor of the Giants it's ridiculous. 5 years of McCarthy and 6 of Anderson for 3 months of Schmidt is not worth it. Also, what makes Anderson more appealing to the Giants than Fred Lewis? I wouldn't mind Broadway/Fields for Schmidt, but giving up McCarthy would be ridiculous. Any thoughts? I know most of you covet Schmidt for next season, so it's an interesting topic.
  2. Out of curiousity, where did that come from? It made me laugh because I wasn't expecting it. Ah, the A.J. trade as well as their infatuation with veterans.
  3. Why wouldn't the Giants resign Schmidt? I must admit I pay absolutely no attention to that pitiful organization.
  4. Do the Cubs play today? Rational, I have a question- who do you cheer for in the N.L. Central? My point is, how can any White Sox fan act incredulous when Cub fans cheer for someone other than the Sox in the A.L. Central? I mean, you do know Cubs fans and Sox fans generally dislike the other team, right? The Cubs play the Brewers, by the way. Who you pullin' for? :D I see it differently because 1. CubsBullsBears seems to care a whole lot more about the Sox than the Cubs. 2. I root for whoever is on my fantasy team. I'll leave it at that.
  5. ...two games up before the break. Not concerned. I figured the starting pitchers would have trouble, it's called regressing to the mean. They'll be fine.
  6. Hawk was the one who questioned where Griffey would play last year? His reasoning for Carl Everett and his sub .325 OBP in the lineup instead of Griffey was due to Carl's "clutchness".
  7. Hawk is the epitome of a gutless, spineless, tool. If you ever want to know what's going on in Reinsdorf's head, listen to Hawk. He pretty much tips J.R.'s hand on a lot of personnel moves.
  8.                        If this was a true exhibition (like it should be) then it wouldn't matter when the last time the NL won. p.s.
  9. Considering the game now "matters", it does matter that the best players play, regardless of how they were used by their team. You're right, it's about having the best performing players from each league play in the game. I love Mark, but he has had a mediocre year by his standards and Liriano/Verlander/Schilling/Mussina should have made it past him.
  10. From what I read, the final ballot is selected by MLB from the pool of players who received the most votes on the player's ballots, but did not make the team. Statistically, AJP is the second best starting offensive catcher in the AL, by any measure, and is having a better season than the fan's choice. He was also on the 2002 AL AS team, selected by Joe Torre, during a lesser season than he is having now. I agree Hafner and Liriano should be on the ballot, but why the assumption that Liriano should be on the team? Liriano wasn't even a starting pitcher until seven weeks ago, and so far has only started against three teams in his own league- Seattle, Baltimore and LA Angels, all of which are at the bottom of the AL in offense. Throw in his NL starts, and he's only pitched against one team with an above average offense. I agree he will probably be an All Star in the future, but why not let him actually pitch around the league once or twice to prove it first? Have you followed baseball AT ALL outside of Chicago? Liriano is a freak and has been putting up stats at every level. Who cares if he started out in the pen? He's still the best pitcher in baseball. FWIW, I voted for Hafner. Once.
  11. How stacked is the A.L. with outfielders? It's scary. Either all of these guys are playing WAY above their heads (more than likely Dye, Cuddyer, Swisher, Nixon) or it'll be tough for anyone to make the all star team.
  12. It's all a PR thing in Venezuela and for MLB. Once again Ozzie is doing not because Maggs is qualified, but to keep is P.R. machine rolling in Venezuela. Well done, CBB.
  13. But there's a difference between showing preference to one of your own players over a player having a similar season, and leaving out a player hitting .392 because of a "personal vendetta with Gardenhire". Selig had a meeting with Guillen and I'm sure he made a point of letting him know he better put Mauer in the game.
  14. Mauer was voted by the players. I said that if he wasn't and the Twins had a rep, Ozzie would not take him. So, your claim has absolutely no validity whatsoever. There's no reason to think Mauer would not have been taken. What's next in your list of ridiculous claims against the Sox? I'm guessing... 1. Ozzie will pitch Papelbon all nine innings. 2. Kenny Williams is a cannibal and ate Joe Mauer in order to prevent his playing in the ASG. 3. TIGERS R AMA ZING 4. Ozzie is a cyborg.
  15. No. McCarthy is as close to untouchable as anyone in baseball with the Sox. Absolute stud.
  16. Short for...I have to find an excuse for the steroids being taken away. Why so quick to accuse?
  17. Buehrle shouldn't have made it, but, again, the team had to have a REAL first baseman and not just 4 Designated Hitters.
  18. Thank you. My only explanation would be that they wanted someone on the squad who actually played first base more than 5-7 times a year (not to say Konerko is a wizard with the glove). Hafner: 11.4 RC/G Konerko: 8.5 RC/G Was this directed at me?
  19. It is possible. The Yankees have an aging lineup and will likely lose Posada, Sheffield, Mussina, Rivera, Williams, and many other cornerstones of their team very soon. They are probably looking to go younger and Ramirez is three years younger than Rodriguez, and he makes significantly less. At the same time, Hendry is (probably) desperate to make a big splash and save his job. Anyone else pick up the Andruw Jones for Brian Anderson swap? WTF? I would imagine it would take Anderson/Broadway/McCarthy to get it done.
  20. Thank you. My only explanation would be that they wanted someone on the squad who actually played first base more than 5-7 times a year (not to say Konerko is a wizard with the glove).
  21. Well, I haven't heard him say he'll "stack it with his guys", but then again, I don't follow the White Sox as passionately as you do.
  22. The Cubs, like any other 100 million dollar club, do not need a deep, quality farm system as badly as anyone else. Unless there is an absolute stud, they can fill their holes by trading quality prospects for proven talent.
  23. Well then you better hope the fans and/or players vote him in. B/c Ozzie won't. If he is on the final man ballot, I will stuff it with Mauer votes. Care to make a wager on this? Same here, I'll bet as well. Just b/c Ozzie is a prick doesn't mean he'll pass up a guy hitting close to .400 He's got a personal vendetta w/ Gardenhire. If the Twins have a rep and it's not Mauer, Ozzie won't take him. He has already said he will stack it with his guys and he doesn't care if he pisses off others. Link? Give it up, you have a personal vendetta with Guillen. He's a prick, but he'll still choose Mauer.
  24. But mainly those White Sox players right?
