  1. SnoodMonger- http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/cbasketball/176969_locke09.html I really believe you have to credit much of Self's success to Roberts and Gillespie. Townsend serves no purpose but being a scumbag recruiter.
  2. The way I see it, Weber>>>Self in the big10. Weber, having worked in the Big 10 for 20 years, knows the conference inside and out. Self, amazing recruiter, good coach. The reason I hate Self isn't cause he left Illinois, it's cause he hired scumbags like Kurtis Townsend and (allegedly, and I have pretty good sources, believe me or don't, I don't care) paid Sherron Collins. Self was aided A LOT by his assistants, Norm Roberts (Current St. Johns head coach), and Billy Gillespie (Hottest coach in America).
  3. I'm just curious, do the Sox ever do any wrong in your eyes? Yes, but Frank is remembered by many Sox fans not for how great he was in the mid 90's, but for how he constantly lashed out and even walked out of spring training. Of course it would have been better to say no comment, but if you read the entire article he explains that it has bothered him long enough. p.s. Some things they did wrong: Not trading Contreras (yet), including Gio in the Thome deal, getting rid of Marte without getting a lefty with as much upside. Do they ever do anything right in your eyes?
  4. When a guy Frank's size with a chronic lower leg problem slams the Sox for not picking up a $9m option on him I would refer to him as an idiot aswell. Many pretended last season that all of Frank's problems with the ballclub never even happened.
  5. His last four years in Japan he hit 30, 18, 24, and 27 home runs. Moving him down in the line up would theoretically give him more RBI opportunities and he won't have to worry about anyone on base stealing.
  6. It's just an experiment with Uribe for now...there's really no one on the time who can slide into the 2 hole and provide a solid OBP. They hope they can get Uribe to be as selective as possible. Iguchi has more power potential and can produce a little more consistency in the 6-7 hole.
  7. You can have Baker...I can't believe such a level-headed group of Cub fans would take him...You badmouth him all year, but would STILL rather have him than Ozzie?
  8. I heard he'd be sitting out to avoid any injury so he can enter the draft. If he came back, it would probably be around the big east tourney.
  9. Hey ndistops, how is Pat Nelson doing? He's from my town and was an absolute joke here because of his soft play. I saw he was getting playing time but getting no points or boards.
  10. He won't make it 30 games. Foot injuries don't usually heal that well on guys that big, and that old. If he stays healthy good move, if not, good move.
  11. The Rangers have Ian Kinsler. They're looking for pitching, not 2B.
  12. And which team was better? The Sox had the second best record in baseball (only one game behind the Cards). They were four games better than the next three teams in the AL during the regular season (Yankees, Angles, and Red Sox). Two of the three teams they easily beat in the playoffs losing one of eight games. They then swept the World Series. To me that's a pretty convincing argument that they were the best team. The White Sox had a much softer schedule than some of those teams. If you don't see that, we'll have to agree to disagree. What teams were better? The Yankees, Boston and the Cardinals were all better teams than the White Sox as much as I hate to admit it. Of course, I don't really take any joy in saying the White Sox were good either. :D Are you serious? The Yankees had a better team based on what? Their lack of a CF, or pitching staff? Boston had arguably the worst bullpen in baseball, and they were swept by the White Sox. The Cardinals were great, but we'll never know how they would've fared in the playoffs because of all the injuries.
  13. After the 2005 season, sure. But after the 2003 season the sentiment was Hendry > Williams. I know Hendry has had a rough 2 yrs, but I rather him be the GM then Kenny Williams, who is a moron, who happen to find the ultimate "lightning in the bottle" experiment. Care to elaborate? I know many think he's an idiot because of the "small ball" garbage. But wasn't this a move that went against all people thought he was about. I still think it was good, considering there were rumors of Rowand for Pierre. And if Pierre and Podsednik would have been in the same lineup/outfield, I would've been tempted to become a Brewers fan.
  14. I really don't think so. Something about his swing just bothered me when he was here. Little power for a guy who has no speed, no patience, and no other offensive asset bothered me. He was replacable, because of Anderson and the vast amount of CF's available in trade. If I was Williams, I'd get Milton Bradley for next to nothing, but too many fans buy into the chemistry.
  15. Yep. Terrible. And I agree, just Rowand was shaky consider he is a year removed from a .900 OPS season, and Thome is old and DL-prone. I can almost guarantee Rowand never posts that again. All around decent defender, not a very good hitter. Considering the surplus of CF's in the organization (Anderson, Young) this deal is fine by me.
  16. ...actually they have enough money for Konerko and Thome, since Frank and Carl are gone. As a Sox fan I love the move. Gonzalez is great, but his ETA was, imo, 2008 at least. Haigwood was nice, but the fact the Phils are paying half the deal, and we kept McCarthy AND Young, I think it was a solid deal.
  17. Well he could be on the move, crazier things have happened.
  18. I'm glad you already know how they will fare in the future.
  19. Does anyone have any idea who would play CF for the Marlins next season if Pierre is gone? Hopefully a deal could make the Marlins want Rowand or Anderson in a deal for Delgado (pipe dream).
  20. Why is the relative ability of the two teams defined as what happend in the last 7 games of the year. The Indians were better over the last 81, why not use that definition? They were 4 games better than the Sox in the 2nd half, and made up 8 games in pythagorean standings which are supposed to measure a team's true ability. The Indians will finish ahead of the White Sox next year barring injury problems. You forget how easy the Indians schedule was over the last month and a half. They beat up on the Rays/Royals/Tigers for a long time.
  21. No chance whatsoever. El Duque is either gone or in the 'pen so McCarthy can be the 5.
  22. What team has won a world series where everything didn't "all come together?" I don't think they'll repeat but their regression probably won't be too dramatic.
  23. I'm glad the "rational" sox fan lambasts Carlos Lee for not taking walks (57 in 05), when his boy AJ walked only 23 times. Carlos is a corner outfielder who has a lead glove therefore his ability is dependant on his home runs. His salary is too much for his minimal production. AJ is a cheap catcher who prior to this year hit for average. That's ridiculous. So because he doesn't get paid much he doesn't have to take a walk? Come on. Damn you burnt, there you go, gotta be all rational again. No, but Carlos is supposedly the cornerstone of the line up. If AJP is your 6th-7th hitter, it's not as big of a problem. But when a guy like Lee is making 7-8 million his OBP should be well over .335.

  25. AJP was not a good signing. He's a clubhouse cancer (it takes a lot to be a bigger jerk than Barry in SF and AJ pulled it off), and if he wasn't buddies with Hawk Harrelson he would never have been sniffing a Sox uniform anyway. Iguchi I can give Williams credit for, he was pretty good for them, although it's worth noting that he struck out 114 times this season and was nothing special in the field (14 errors). The fact remains, though, that he unloaded a 35-home run hitter for a mediocre leadoff hitter in Podsednik (.313 OBP in 2004) and then plugged in Dye to fill the outfield spot, who hadn't had a good season this millennium and somehow ripped off a .274/31/86 for them. Calling Williams a "clown" is probably overstating the case, but his moves this off-season really weren't that good. He was made to look smart because all those moves came through in spades with Dye having his best year since 2000 and Podsednik having the best of his three seasons in the majors. This Sox team really had marginally better talent than the 2004 version but had the advantage of about 10 players having their best years ever. How do you know that AJP is a clubhouse cancer? SF was the only place he's played where he wasn't loved by his teammates. He is still well liked by guys he played with in Minnesota, and is loved in Chicago. He isn't a cancer, maybe more of a edgy guy, something the team needed. And if you think AJ is a cancer, look at your "35 homer guy" Carlos Lee. He has no hustle on the basepaths, in the field, and he walks about as much as Tony Womack. How do I know? AJP was literally run out of San Francisco. He kneed a Giants trainer in the balls during his one-year tenure. The Sox teammates like him because he's like most of the rest of them and the SF teammates were not. The man almost approaches the personality of Barry Bonds, except that he doesn't put up ludicrous steroid-influenced numbers in the process. His smartass comment about not feeling lucky about the Game 2 ALCS win was a pretty good indicator. Maybe the smartass comment had a lot more to do with him being hated for running down to first, when it was the umpire that had everything to do with the blown call. And, if he's a cancer, what does that make Carlos Lee? SARS? Bird Flu? Would you stop being an ass? If your a rational soxfan your not going to come to a cubs board and question them about everything. AJP is different thats for sure. In some clubhouses he can be a cancer in some he wont. He was a perfect fit for the twins but didnt fit in well with the Giants. I like him as a sox and him, Rowand, and Crede supposedly are really good friends now but yeah in the wrong circumstances he can be a cancer. I guess if I was a fan of both teams I could go to any board and say whatever I wanted.
