  1. guy generally in the know at illinois loyalty said that he'd heard that thomas has contacted smart's handlers. shaka apparently didn't say he'd jump at the chance but definitely didn't say no, said it depended on a few factors. only other guy they've reached out to is romar, who said he wanted more money and years than he's got at uw, which is obviously unlikely. same poster said perception at marquette is buzz would leave but only for the right job (some think that means down south). just what i've read. what other jobs are likely to open up after this season?
  2. But, but, but, '05. and he's been through so much! I want to fight Weber. What a man.
  3. If you remember what it was like before you won a World Series I am sure you know what most of us are feeling. At least when you lost it didn't turn into a total cesspool like the majority of most White Sox message boards. If I read one more time that we lost today because Javy Vazquez has no balls, the kitten dies.
  4. From a Sox fan, good luck! I'm sure your expectations for the Cubs are much higher than mine for the Sox (push it to four), so this wait must be brutal.
  5. Seriously, on what planet is Javy Vazquez "lucky" to be a 3-5 starter on most teams? Buehrle is an anomaly in that he probably should be a 3-5 starter, but he has skills that allow him to be an abover average innings eater. Contreras and Danks have been solid this season. Floyd is an anomaly and should be getting pounded -- his peripherals are not backing up his performance. Lots of people saw it coming. AJP will come back down. Dye, on the other hand, was banged up in the first half of last season but fantastic after the ASB. He's an above average player. I think most baseball fans have heard of every player in their starting lineup. Most of America probably hasn't heard of any of them though. Edit: Not here to troll -- just thought I'd shed some light on the situation. I'm happy to see you guys have played so well.
  6. Podsednik is indisputably horrid at baseball. He is a 0-tool player. If the trade cleared enough payroll for Iguchi, AJ, Hermanson, and El Duque to be added in the same offseason, then the trade obviously looks better in terms of effect.
  7. Miller is quite possibly the most boring bandbox in MLB with awful sight lines.
  8. I'm really only half kidding. I really hate the Cell and hope they don't decide to play there. Yes crime is bad there, and yes, its relatively safe IF you're there in a group. HOWEVER the park and its neighborhood are just lame and awful. Its surrounded by acres of parking lots!!! I wish they could play in Milwaukee instead. MUCH better neighborhood and better ballpark too!! I like the Cubs and all, but it'll get old watching them play some crappy team in a crappy ballpark. No thanks! You make it sound like it is Fallujah. "Relatively" safe if you're in a group? Are you serious? I don't think you've ever been there. It's not rosy and lovely but it's seriously not a bad place to watch a game. I've been to Wrigley, and I've been to USCF (obviously more often) and they are both great places to watch baseball -- for different reasons, obviously.

  10. Len's doing impressions of the Houston and Colorado PA guys.
  11. hahahahah Len is ridiculous. Why must I be forced to tolerate Hawk?
  12. Honestly, I bet KW was trying to block him from the Tigers. Why? I have absolutely no idea, but there is no way they could take on his salary with the assumed drop in attendance/revenue for 2008.
  13. I think what it took to get Tex would probably be a starting point. Honestly, I bet it would have taken two guys who are either breaking into the majors (Kemp/Billingsley), one guy who is close (LaRoche), and then one guy in the low minors with ubertalent (Kershaw). I can't imagine what offers would have been thrown around if Buehrle/Z/Garland/Vazquez/Hill were on the market instead of veteran garbage like Matt Morris.
  14. If Dye walks, they get Type A compensation. I can understand what KW is doing just because if Dye's value on the trade market is this low, then just go for a pie in the sky deal and if it doesn't work out, keep Dye and take the picks. And, one more time, Iguchi was traded for a "nobody" because a) you can't offer him arbitration b) could find much better options on the market and c) would have to be out of your mind if you thought this was the Iguchi of 2005 and 2006.
  15. The payroll they shed allowed them to sign AJP, Iguchi, and El Duque.
  16. To be fair, El Caballo was a salary dump.
  17. Don't you think if he could've gotten more, he would have? Plus Iguchi has a clause in his contract which prevents compensation for him walking. Iguchi has looked terrible offensively and defensively this season, and Loretta's presence on the block certainly weakened the offers for Iguchi.
  18. As a Sox fan, I love love love Len Kasper. I think he's a great announcer. As much as I hate Hawk and his lack of knowledge, some of his 9th inning calls give me goosebumps. He's nostalgic I guess, it brings me back to when I was 9-10.
  19. Haha, Hawk is about to keel over. I didn't even see the play. Who even gives a [expletive] right now? This team is terrible.
  20. Hit the nail on the head! I think the line of thinking was that the team wanted to take higher ceiling guys than the low ceiling collegiates they've been taking (McCulloch, Broadway, Fields to a lesser extent). This year they took Poreda and Griffifth, two guys they wouldn't have taken in other years.
  21. If you guys got Cesar Carillo it wouldn't be so bad. Just wait though, your bad feelings will pass when KW dumps Buehrle for Eckstein, Rick Ankiel, and Anthony Reyes.
  22. Someone please explain to me what Jake Peavy said that was so villainous. Don't give me this "moving in the direction of first base" BS. Fonz was holding his bat moonwalking his first few steps.
  23. Freddy had an MRI in 2006 which showed no damage. EVERYONE knew that Freddy was damaged goods. He lost 7 MPH on his fastball last season and became junk pitcher. The Phils didn't request a physical with the trade.
  24. Der- I hate hate hate Erstad and the fact that he has played everyday, but his 3 gold gloves (granted a long time ago) were well deserved. He is terrible though. Just dropping in on my way to work, good luck guys. I have trouble pumping myself up for this series. Both teams are just so underwhelming.
  25. The penultimate deke of a runner-what a grinder.
