The trade with the Brewers was a salary dump. They shed the eight million they would have owed Caballo in 2005, and used it to sign Tadahito Iguchi (2.3 in 05), A.J. Pierzynski (2.25 in 05) and El Duque (3.5 in 05). They also added Luis Vizcaino (who sucked, but oh well). I agree wholeheartedly that Pods v. Lee is not even close in terms of value, but the trade freed up salary for KW to use when Reinsdorf was tight with the purse strings (strange). Also, signing Scott for 1 year at 2.9 isn't THAT bad. His BABIP has been really around league average in his two horrid seasons (2004 and 2006).
