  1. No love for Charlie Haeger? I see him sliding into the fifth spot until midseason, when another move is made and the 4-5 consist of Haeger and Danks. IMO, good trade. Danks has a higher ceiling and getting those two has a larger impact than getting Andruw for one year or Alf for half a season.
  2. I just hope Illinois rolls. No matter how good of a coach Anderson is (and I believe he is great), losing to Mizzou would be embarrassing simply because of the barren cupboard left by Quinny. But, I have all the respect in the world for a new and cleaner Missouri basketball program. Here's to a good season for Mizzou (beginning 12/20, of course).
  3. I don't care what Sisco's previous attitude problems are, getting him for a 31 year old 1B with no value is a good move.
  4. Actually, I just looked up his VORP from last year and was surprised to see him listed so high.
  5. Or the same guy that got Thome for Rowand, bought low on Dye, traded Loaiza for Contreras, got Uribe for Miles (success in 04), picked up Jenks off waivers, etc.
  6. Contreras Buehrle Vazquez McCarthy Hirsh Not too bad, I guess.
  7. Jason Hirsh come on down to the SouthSide!
  8. What do you think of the rumored deal and yesterday's with the Phils, KC?
  9. As I stated on WSI, perhaps other teams don't value aging, declining innings eaters who are on the verge of FA. The fact that we pried away Gonzalez alone would have been surprising to me. Go look at phillies phans, some of them think the deal sucked on their side.
  10. I like it, but I'm biased against Garcia. He lost velocity, was owed a lot next season, and was gone after 2007, and we got a project in Floyd and a young prospect in Gio.
  11. I think the appeal of Milledge is he can develop his power as he gets older and matures. His plate patience is already there. Pie may develop the power, but never the patience.
  12. Put me down! I am down! why do we care about White Sox trade rumors again? Didn't mean to offend you. I'll leave you guys to the Mariners discussion!
  13. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20061204&content_id=1750133&vkey=hotstove2006&fext=.jsp  Put me down! I am down!
  14. The trade with the Brewers was a salary dump. They shed the eight million they would have owed Caballo in 2005, and used it to sign Tadahito Iguchi (2.3 in 05), A.J. Pierzynski (2.25 in 05) and El Duque (3.5 in 05). They also added Luis Vizcaino (who sucked, but oh well). I agree wholeheartedly that Pods v. Lee is not even close in terms of value, but the trade freed up salary for KW to use when Reinsdorf was tight with the purse strings (strange). Also, signing Scott for 1 year at 2.9 isn't THAT bad. His BABIP has been really around league average in his two horrid seasons (2004 and 2006). His GB% also dropped after a really high 2005. http://www.fangraphs.com/graphs/1095_OF_season_full_9_20061001.png They'll either look to trade him or use him as a 4th OF, IMO. Not all of us have 136 million! 8)
  15. All season I've been praying we unload Crede at his highest value and pick up the incredibly underrated, undervalued, and underappreciated Morgan Ensberg.
  16. I really don't know how people can be so excited. Getting Lugo/Durham and trading for Manny would have been better, and possible. Oh well, congratulations guys, I just wish I could turn on the radio without hearing Bruce Levine pee himself with glee.
  17. From the Sox perspective, what a hard throwing back end of the bullpen: Jenks Thornton Macdougal Aardsma
  18. Eh, I don't know why everyone thinks Cabrera sucks. If anything, he's very average. He did have a .8 isoD this season, and his OPS+ was 100.
  19. iirc, cotts started the 2004 futures game. IIRC, he also made his first career start at Yankee Stadium and got hammered. It was a pretty questionable decision. wasn't saying that he was invulnerable as a starter, just that he was regarded as a starter clear up until he made the major leagues. Yeah, that one bad start kind of relegated him to LOOGY. He's kind of a two pitch pitcher. I'd compare him to everything I've heard about Kei Igawa.
  20. iirc, cotts started the 2004 futures game. IIRC, he also made his first career start at Yankee Stadium and got hammered. It was a pretty questionable decision. RSF, do you know if he has options left? I think he does. He made a pretty quick rise through the system iirc.

  22. I remember Cotts losing 2-3 mph on his fastball from 2005 to 2006. Good deal Hendry for buying low and *maybe* getting a starter. Good deal Kenny for getting Aardsma (filthy) for a guy coming off a horrid year.
  23. I'd just like to drop in and say that Carlos Lee has never had a .900 OPS. Also: Javier Vazquez for Pelfry/Heilman :D :D :D Please be that stupid Minaya...if only they wanted Freddy...
  24. The Kelvin Sampson era begins! Congratulations!
