  1. hey now pump the breaks we wont beat MSU Sure, it's an awful big if. i fondly remember watching Illinois - MSU my freshman year, very hungover, first year of the Zook era and we won on a last second FG, our first conference win in like 2 years I remember going to a Ill/MSU game in the 80s sometime where a referee died on the field and I think Morten Anderson made a 60+ yard fg(this may be faulty memory or a different game though)
  2. to be honest it was a hard game to watch.
  3. Olcyck is great
  4. I'm impressed by MSU. I'm always expecting that "Sparty, no!" moment, but they have played very well the past 2 games. I think the talent is pretty similar between these 2 teams. 3 turnovers are the big difference right now. to be honest, to me it almost looked like a Lloyd Carr team vs a John L Smith team today...except the shoe is on the other foot
  5. I really like that MSU seems to be getting a little better every week. But to be honest if Robinson does not throw those 2 picks in the end zone, this is a close game.
  6. http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/rankings/rank-2114;_ylt=AmpMgBswKkzpJd2r5_SgaL1GPZB4 list of dual threat QBs from Rivals in 2009...no Martinez or Denard Robinson. to be fair Robinson was a 4 star recruit who was listed under athlete
  7. I can. What I cannot believe is the same people who were jumping for joy when the contract was signed are now some of the most vocal haters of Soriano.
  8. true and he doesnt completely suck. Sad to say but I dont see the Cubs becoming a better team by trading Soriano
  9. I have a feeling that the Islanders are going to be tougher then many people think...no real reason to feel this way though. Blue Jackets, not so much of a good feeling
  10. Not if you were a Cub fan, I hated those guys. The Cubs were a complete afterthought in the mid 70s...it was very easy to cheer to the Reds(i cheered for the Cubs head to head). Different division, Pete Rose was a hard nosed player, Joe Morgan was a stud, Sparky was a colorful fun manager, they were not the Red Sox, Yankees or Dodgers, and rest of team was really good. I cheered for the Big Red Machine and also the early 70s A's for many of the same reasons.
  11. last night was the first time I have watched Nebraska this season and all I have to say is WOW
  12. I think Donald Fehr becoming the head of the NHLPA is going to be a much bigger story in the next couple of seasons. It is kind of low key now because there is still 2 yrs left on the current CBA
  13. yeah sorry...1997...I am just full of #-o the last couple of days. it is hard to explain, but claude lemieux had been a thorn in the wings side the previous 2 playoffs seasons and then put the cherry on top with a cheap shot against kris draper in game 6 of the western conference finals. the march 26 1997 game was revenge http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kou0p5oI4Xk
  14. easily my least favorite sports team of all time...but they were good It's a shame the Red Wings/Avs rivalry didn't amount to much after the mid 90's. I remember toward the end of college screwing around with changes to MLB scheduling and deciding Detroit/Denver would make a good interleague rivalry based just on the bad blood between those hockey teams. I think that's when hockey peaked in terms of cultural relevance. The Sega hockey games were the best, the US mens team won the world cup, Chicago was just ending its successful run, Pittsburgh was big, Gretzky was around, the Rangers had won and Detroit and Colorado had some epic battles. March 26th 2007 is still my all time favorite sports day ever...my teams have won championships, but never have they did what the Wings did that day. I think any Red Wing fan over the age of 25 will never forget that game.
  15. I went with the Twins, but that is probably because they are currently the team playing the Yankees.
  16. easily my least favorite sports team of all time...but they were good
  17. so your real issue is that a lot of people do not do their own critical thinking?
  18. why? I thought it was a very entertaining read
  19. I just posted the Yahoo site...there are plenty of hockey journalists out there who believe the Hawks will defend the Cup. I think come playoff time when depth is not quite as important(unless there are a lot of injuries) and the Hawks young players have a season under their belts they will be a very tough team to beat.
  20. As always I dont always buy everything the freakonomics guys come up with. I think they have shown what a lot of wise GMs may have realized. The Moneyball high OBP guys were becoming more expensive, while the good defensive players were becoming less expensive. I think the A's have even gone this route the last few years to a certain degree.
  21. The Reds were really likable during the 70s...too bad several of those players have retired from baseball to become very unlikable
  22. http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Puck-Daddy-s-2010-11-Western-Conference-staff-pr?urn=nhl-274945 some pre-season predictions from puck daddy. Not a lot of love for the Hawks. Here is my top 8 prediction in the West 1. Canucks-may not be best but have the easiest division in the West 2. Red Wings-homer pick 3. Sharks-honestly I think that 2 and 3 will be exciting because of how good 4 and 5 are going to be. 4. Kings-I think they will have a great fight with the Sharks for the division. 5. Hawks- to be honest I dont really want to argue with Hawks fans about this, but I think they will struggle at times this season because of their lack of depth. They however will be primed come playoff time to make another run in my opinion. Also, Kopecky on the top line!?!? But their top talent is the best in the league and will fight for division crown. 6. Flames-will make 6 because of crappy division 7. Preds- because they always do 8. Avs- or Blues or Coyotes....cant see anyone else even thinking about making playoffs I hate making playoff predictions before the season because you just never know who will get hurt, traded, dramatically improve or decline. So I will just pick the Wings for my homer reasons as for the East...who cares
  23. I wish I could realistically come up with something better then what has been mentioned, but it would just be a pipedream. Only 2 things that I am certain will happen...K Hill returning and veteran arm added to bullpen.
