  1. There probably is but at some point you have to wonder how many untested players are you going to have to count on to perform key roles. At this point you are probably are going to have to go with 2 dmen, 3/4 forwards and a goalie who will be getting there first extended NHL time. Its not that I dont think the Hawks have the depth in their system, but the chances are that several of them will not play very well in their first time around.
  2. That's waaay too young to keel over & die. probert always had trouble getting off of the ice I had many of the same issues while Probie was playing/serving jail time with the Wings
  3. The recent success of the Hawks and the Wings have driven down the value of goalies in the NHL
  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKdb7xdUoqs&feature=related favorite player when I was a younster rip probie edit...so doing a little reading I found that Probie, Yzerman and Kocur were all drafted in the same draft. I knew that about Probie and Stevie Y but didnt realize Kocur was taken in that draft also. This may be the most entertaining draft in NHL history/
  5. next question...If Hjalmarsson does get a contract that the Hawks cannot match, would you be willing to trade Sharp or Bolland for a Dman like Jack Johnson and use the money saved for next season to give a veteran top 6 forward (Bill Guerrin type) a one year deal to help fill the void?
  6. Hjalmarsson, a little worried. Seabrook, not at all. He already makes $3.5 million, and the Blackhawks have at least the $4.15 million in dead cap space coming off the books next season, so there's plenty of room to re-sign him for whatever it takes. Unless someone wants to get into four-draft pick territory, they'll match happily. Next year is going to be a big year for FA dmen. So Seabrook will probably not garner anyone willing to give 4 picks. Hjalmarsson is better then any remaining FA dmen, I think I would be concerned also.
  7. I have a question for Hawks fans...with all the silly money that Defensemen seem to be getting in this FA period, are you concerned that Hjalmarrson this year and Seabrook next season will get offers that will be hard for the Hawks to match? Fortunately for the Hawks they tied up Kieth before the FA money raised the market to this silly level. As a Wings fan I was initially shocked the Wings resigned Lidstrom for 6.2 million, but with the high prices some mediocre second pairing dmen received it doesnt seem that bad for a 1 year deal.
  8. as a Wings fan I would love to have a capless world:)
  9. Keep telling yourself that. You've listed a No. 6 defender, two 40-point wingers from an organization absolutely loaded at wing, and a fourth-line center. Oh noes, we're doooooooomed! I dont argue that Bowman got great value in return for having to trade these players, but would he have traded them or not resigned Madden if the Hawks were better managed under the cap? Also, I have not ever come in here to just rag on the Hawks, so I dont need to be treated like some Wings fan troll. I just make observations about them like I would any other team. If you read through all the hockey threads the last couple of years you will find that I say many positive things about the Hawks, probably way more positive then negative.
  10. Wings fans still seem to think we're gonna lose significant guys Hawks fans also believed Bowman when he said that no more trades were needed...guess we all live in our delusions:) who believed that? not knowledgable fans unlike Wings fans? Also Buff, Sopel, Versteeg and Madden are significant loses. Most of these knowledgeable Hawks fans seem to think they are not

  12. I will seriously hug Bowman if he is able to bring this team back under the cap sans Buff, Sopel, Eager and Frasier. That's phenomenal. i think that's impossible I'm just basing off his comments yesterday. He just said no more trades would need to be made, he did not say that all of their RFAs would return did he?
  13. Reasoner is also a good replacement for John Madden. Not as good at face offs but his overall defensive value is pretty good.
  14. just read that they are waiting for league officials to land in LA to ok deal. I think this is a great deal for the Hawks. Like DD said Ben Eagers are a dime a dozen and usually way over rated by fans. Sopel is a 3rd pairing dman who is way overpaid for what he does and Buff is great in front of the net but his overall game is not worth a 1st and 2nd round pick.
  15. Kaberle is as good as Campbell, and his contract would disappear next season, giving the the Hawks a season to groom some dmen for a 2nd pairing role. The huge dropoff would be at forward. I am not saying this is a good player deal for the Hawks, but if they can unload Campbells contract and get a top 4 dman back for next season, it is a good deal in my eyes.
  16. that's not possible we have to drop campbell. can we trade him for gonchar's negotiating rights and then let him walk? i mean, that's not all they'd want, but we could throw in steeg or buff or ladd or something. The Penguins have their own salary cap issues. Honestly if Toronto is really willing to give the Hawks Kaberle and Grabovski for Sharp and Campbell, the Hawks would be foolish not to do this deal. In reality the Hawks are going to be up against the cap next off season also. Unloading Campbell and getting a solid second pairing dman for 2 million less this season and his contract expires next is worth the talent downgrade. I also think Kaberle would not be as much of a downgrade from Campbell as some may think, the real downgrade would be Sharp to Grabovski. It also would give the Hawks another season to get their young dmen ready and a real good shot at keeping Seabrook next off season the more I think about it the more I wonder why Toronto would make that deal edit: Kaberle makes almost 3 million less then Campbell
  17. The one I'm doing is a 750m swim, 20k bike and then a 5 k run I did one last april with about the same distances. The swim kicked my butt because I dont live that close to an indoor pool so I didnt really do a lot of swimming before hand. The couple of times I did go I underestimated how many laps a 1/2 mile was. I didnt do much besides my regular work out and did some added biking during the cold weather to be a little prepared for that. I also had just lost a bunch of weight and was looking for something to motivate me to keep working hard, but was not that concerned about my time. I finished but the swim almost knocked me out since I was not that prepared for it.
  18. How long are the events?
  19. As long as they keep staying 15 million below the cap you are probably right. I wonder how good they could be if they would make a free agent splash and sign a couple of top 6 forwards to go along with the team that was there.
  20. so with the title change I may start keeping you guys posted on the exciting Detroit Red Wing off-season news
  21. Honestly, if the Hawks lost Hjalmarsson they would probably have to sign a FA for the second pairing. Hjarlmarsson is much better then anyone the Hawks could probably afford on the FA market. On a side note. Trying to find articles that do a good job of explaining the depth of the Hawks cap issues has turned into this, they are either written by people who are gloating how bad of a situation the Hawks are in or by people with some Hawks homerism going. It is hard to gauge just where the situation truly is.
  22. I agree about Hjalmarsson. He also stated the FA market is saturated with dmen and I dont think that is true. I would actually say that it is a weak defense group available in FA. I think Hjalmarsson will get 2.9 million. I agree with you about Sopel. I think very similar players to Sopel can easily be had for as low as a million. He doesnt have an awful contract but I think teams would be leery to take it.
  23. I know, probably will be banned but seriously, is it homerific to say the hawks won the stanley cup this year? In a pure student of Stoicism way....No
  24. I know, probably will be banned
  25. excellent analysis or wishful homerism? you tell me. detroit fans have the market cornered on wishful homerism and should probably be able to recognize it when they see it. time to go off and tell your brethren how much the hawks are going to suck next year so you can sleep tonight. of course when the Hawks were slumping post olympics I was one of the people saying it was going to be ok, and you were being a emotional jack butt. I feel I bring a much more level head than you do to most hockey discussion. Also, I predicted the Wings would lose to SJ in the second round so I dont think I have too much wishful homerism. I also was not one of those Wings fans who thought they were going to find a way to keep Hossa last year. Not sure where you get that I am some sort of stupid emotional homer like well you.
