  1. by beating the Wings they already have kind of ruined it, could have been all 4 teams.
  2. I think if you miss the penalty shot you should still get a 2 minute PP. The one thing that is supposed to separate a penalty shot from just a penalty is did the shooter still have a legitimate scoring chance. So if he has a legit scoring chance and doesnt score they still call the penalty. If however the player does not have a scoring chance then he gets the scoring chance with the penalty shot in theory, if he misses it..done. I think if a team could chose they would still take the penalty shot almost every time. My guess is successful penalty shot percentages are a lot better then even the best PP percentages.
  3. That's not a penalty I would have to see another replay...it is a penalty if it is above the shoulder on a shot. You talking about Byfuglien opening up that guy's head? It's not a penalty if it's part of the natural follow-through of the shot. only to the shoulder...O Brien was bent over some so it was probably close.

  5. wow, was the versus announcers trying to justify the non penalty call?
  6. Assuming the Blackhawks can finish off Vancouver (I can't believe I'm saying that already), in your opinion how would you predict a SJ-Chi series to go with SJ having home ice? I feel like the Hawks always play the Sharks well, and both teams appear to be playing their best hockey right now. let me think about it, I still have a lot of emotion blinding judgment so not sure I would make a good prediction. I mentioned this during the season sometime but will say it again. San Jose has had issues in the play offs but so has Quennville coached teams in my opinion.
  7. very frustrating series to loss. Got to hand it to San Jose, they played well except for game 4. I think they are going to be real tough to beat by anyone
  8. this is something i very rarely speculate on, but my gut feeling is that there are serious leadership problems in vancouver. they have way too much talent to just get slammed aside like this. they tend to whine more than other teams and resort to cheap play quickly. seems like there's a lack of accountability starting from the top. i don't have anything to base this on, which kind of makes it a dumb post, but that's just the feeling i get. losing 2 straight games in a row like that at home is straight up embarrassing. They remind me of the late 90s St Louis Blues. Extremely talented but had Pronger as the Captain. Whenever things started going bad for them they just started doing stupid stupid stuff. Actually the Red Wings really gave the Blues fits back then in a very similar way that the Hawks seem to give the Canucks fits now
  9. 5 on 5 the Canucks have probably been a better team tonight, but oh my what a bunch of idiots
  10. i like San Jose's announcers
  11. Wings are currently Plus 2 in goals this series :)
  12. Lidstrom and Hossa were also playing hurt
  13. teams don't have all the good bounces going for them one year and then against them two years later. that's nonsense. the wings won the president's trophy and the championship two years ago because they were a better team, not because they just had good luck on their side. i think the wings are the 5th best team in the league after SJ, Chi, Van and Pit. 07/08 the Wings played in a terrible division-Presidents Cup they played the 8,6 and 5 seeds to get to the finals Pittsburgh was poorly coached and still somewhat undermanned This year the Wings have 300+ games lost due to injuries and played in a very solid division-5th seed They have played the 4 and 1 seed so far I really dont think that they are that much below where they were a couple of years ago and were probably a better team last year then the year they won the Cup.
  14. Of course they belong, the issue was somebody foolishly claiming they would be the favorite in any series. I think it's debatable if they are elite. I guess it depends on how loosely you define elite. Detroit was clearly among the better playoff teams, so I guess you can call them that, along with a team like Pittsburgh. Who is elite then? I know sneaky made a homerish remark about the Wings being "favorites" but Truffle also made a comment earlier downplaying how good the Wings are. Truth be told the Wings were probably not as great as they were portrayed to be a couple of years ago and they have not fallen that far from that point. It takes some "good bounces" to win the cup and the Wings got them a few years ago and they seem to have all the bounces go against them in this series and pretty much this entire season. Talent wise I still believe they are a top 5 team...which is pretty elite if you ask me
  15. in the sharks-red wings series, the favorite is prevailing. actually in every series the favorite is leading right now. you overreacted to the wings playing a great game against the 'yotes. they were fantastic in game seven obviously, but the rest of that series they weren't all that great and they haven't been better than the sharks. yes, if the red wings play their absolute best in every game they will win the stanley cup. but that doesn't happen. First...Sharks are the best team remaining no question. second....all three games this series have been very close. Very easily could be 2-1 either way. Do they get special t-shirts or something for getting swept as long as the games are all close? "We lost, but not by much!" No, but its not like the Wings don't belong or as some are suggesting that they are not an elite team anymore.
  16. both of the EC series have been painful to watch. the games in teh west have been very entertaining.

  18. I'd imagine Wakamatsu/Jack Z called the meeting. Our management was too busy calling him a piece of [expletive]. Poor, poor misunderstood Milton. Its everybody's fault but his. This seems like an odd reaction to someone coming to his bosses and teammates asking for help. It looks like he's placing the blame squarely on himself. MILTON finally is, which is great. I hope he gets the help he needs now. However, others are not. They would rather use Milton to take cheap shots at Cubs management in a very Rosenbloom-esque style. There are plenty of good reasons to criticize Cubs management. This one is just kind of pathetic. I put a lot of blame on Cubs management...if you are not prepared to take on a player with Bradleys baggage then dont take him on. Just because you had a pleasant dinner with the guy does not mean he is going to behave in the way you want. Good for Milton for coming to terms with his issues, I pray that all goes well for him
  19. I had the sound down, what were they reviewing? I dont think they can review goaltender interference, what else could they possibly be reviewing.
  20. Incorrect Sharp has been real good this game...Hossa got the goal and worked hard to get it, but Sharp has been great also. Too bad Q is weighing them down with Kopecky
  21. because once the scrum starts they probably all could be called for something...so they just sent the player who went out of his way to instigate the whole thing
  22. no it wasnt...pretty classless actually It was definitely classless. But I'm drunk so I don't really care. I probably would enjoy it if Holmstrom would do it in San Jose if he scored....it would still be classless though. I also would understand when he gets pounded later if the game got out of hand
  23. no it wasnt...pretty classless actually Why? The fans were booing the crap out of him, the Canucks players were gooning it up, Buff made sure everyone understood the scoreboard is the most important part. I wouldn't say it was classy, but I don't think it was classless. Fans booing an opposing player? It was very Averyish. Also, Byfuglin is not exactly innocent when it comes to goon tactics.
  24. no it wasnt...pretty classless actually
  25. Not just Howard, some of things we've seen happen never happened to past Wings teams. But, you've got to consider they're not those great Wings anymore, pretty close to average team now. Its not like they are being dominated. They have had some huge bad breaks and yet have come real close to winning all three games. If Pavelski, Clowe and Thorton keep playing at the level they are SJ will win the Stanley Cup
