    I think ND can easily sit this one out. If a couple of years down the road it become obvious that they need to join a conference, I am sure a major conference will find room for them. Its not like the Big Ten will not take them because they didnt join now.

    this is true, and they won the cup. Not that they will not be a contender next season, but this off season would have a different feel about it if the Hawks didnt win and they had to sell off some peaces to make the cap. Yes, probably while we all flipped out after game 3 and 4. This was our best shot for the next couple of years most likely. detroit's corps isn't getting any younger or better. toews is going to be molesting them for years, no worries. Lidstrom and Rafalski are the only core players on the Wings who are past prime. Wings haters have been talking about how old they are since 97, yet they havent collapsed yet. I expect this rivalry to be fun for several years.

    The general assumption is that they will waive Huet and either send him to Rockford or allow him to sign with a European team (and pay the difference), not buy him out. And that they'll trade Sopel no matter what. I think with his playoff performance it won't be hard to find a taker. The cap stuff is going to be interesting and it will hurt, but the reality is that this team will still have the same top-2 defensemen playing 28 minutes a game, and they'll still have Kane, Toews and Hossa. They'll be right there with San Jose, Detroit, and L.A. as the top teams in the West yet again. No doubt they will be an elite team. I think fans of other teams that have them collapsing are way off base. 2 other teams that may have an interesting summer and caproom to improve are Nashville and Colorado.

The Hawks are going to have to trade someone even if they buy out Huet edit: If they buyout Huet and trade Versteeg, that will free up 6 million. Niemi and Hjalmarsson will get pretty good raises to cover over half of that 6 million. The real problem may be when Seabrook becomes available after next season.

    Amazing what happens when you get two large market american cities in the championship. Wow...in the Chicago market the game had a 32.8 rating and a 50(!!!) share. Yeah. As a Wings fan I appreciate that we are a solid tv draw, but for the overall game the NHL would be better with the Hawks and the Rangers being successful. It is great to see that the NHL is going in a good direction. I really appreciate the success of the Hawks, because living in Illinois hockey had been pretty much dead for years. Having people to discuss hockey with on a regular basis is cool.

    I have been surprised about how well Philly has played with the Hawks. They certainly have not been outplayed, except at goalie.

    Not off base at all but you express so much confidence. Not to be a huge homer, but I think people are going overboard on this "Hawks are going to get rid of half their team and not be elite next year" thing. I would agree that our depth is a big part of what makes us good, but I think we have too much top end talent that like mentioned here is still getting better, or at least at their peak level of performance to suggest that we can't compete for the Cup next year as well. I true those in charge to find a way to make it work. I think we have decent depth at Rockford to replace some of the production of a Sharp or Versteeg. Also, while the Wings will likely be healthy, don't forget we'd have a full year of Hossa and Niemi playing. I am not saying the Hawks are going to drop off a lot, they will still get 110 points minimum. They will still be an elite team, no question. There is a lot of talk in Blackhawk land and other teams that the Wings are going to drop off for some reason. I dont understand why people think this. If Lidstrom retires he will be very hard to replace, but he also has a 7 mill cap hit.

    I think I could easily make a case that the Wings will probably be better next season and the Hawks will drop off some. Not sure why you guys think this is off base.

    Thats weird. I work in ophthalmology, and I cant think of any condition in which you suddenyl go completely blind. It could have been a retinal detachment, which I believe is what happened with Juan Encarnacion in which there are other symptoms that go along, or optic neuritis, but with that, you dont go completely blind, but you lose significant vision my mom always said that you could go blind from punching the munchkin

    congrats to all of you Hawks fans!! I didnt have much of a cheering side in their series against San Jose but will be cheering for them against whoever comes out of the East. Also Kyle, Crosby touched the trophy last year, so not sure that the jinx still exists.

    pretty sure we were due a penalty, even if it was an iffy one Yeah I thought the Wings got the shaft last series when it came to penalties, but nothing like what the Hawks got in game 1

    They'd probably be booing him for his contract if he signed the contract he signed with SJ. They got the better end of that deal most likely with Boyle, playoff OT own goals aside. yeap...and Campbell only played 2 months with SJ, he was a rental to begin with

    so not that I feel bad for San Jose after what happened last series, but it sure looked like the Hawks were offsides on their goal and then a very weak penalty

    i think better goalie technique and better goalie equipment have a lot to do with it. watching classic hockey games from the 70s and 80s, giving up a goal on unscreened shot from the top of the circles was not considered a softie back then. now it is. the area of open net to shoot at looks much larger 20-30 years ago than today. interference was interference, just another huge change

    apparently because it's game 7 you ignore the rules of hockey and allow one team to play with an extra player on the ice. come on mark, that's one of the few penalties that they HAVE to call in these types of games (along with high sticking, which gave the B's their first two goals). I would like to see the NHL call too many men on the ice at all times...they allow way to much leeway at times that leaves room for question in situations like the game last night. I remember how frustrating delay of game penalties were before they just started to call all pucks over the glass from the defensive zone. Now the only question is did it hit something on the way. I think the NHL would benefit from actually calling too many men on the ice at all times. It would probably put a huge dent in the trap style of play and it would take subjectivity away from officials.

    Yeah, it usually isn't shown on TV. I really couldnt tell you when it changed, but I am pretty sure when I was younger there was no such thing as a delayed penalty....this of course could just be faulty memory on my part
