  1. my guess is someone will offer him a contract 3 mill+...I think that the Hawks would have a tough decision matching that. They would receive 1,2 and 3rd round picks though.
  2. I thought Hjalmarsson was going to be a RFA.
  3. not sure it would be appropriate to report something like this unless it was brought up by management first. Don't think you will see management talking about it during the season.
  4. especially being such a young team. If the salary cap keeps tracking up for a couple of years it would help the Hawks quite a bit also.
  5. I think the Hawks would be on the hook for 2/3s of the contract. Also believe that will be the salary cap hit, but am not sure. edit: Salary Cap is reportedly going up about 1 million next season. You take his remaining salary, pay him 2/3rds of it, but spread the cap hit on that 2/3rds over twice the number of years as he had remaining. just looked up darcy tucker and this appears to be the case. I think if this is the case then buying out Huet would almost be a no brainer.

  7. Where does Fukudome rank amongst RF in the NL? I think he probably is overpaid, but I also think he is undervalued by the general Cub fandom.
  8. I was talking to my brother who lives in the Bay area yesterday about this. He said one of the down sides of Sabermetrics and Moneyball is there are players who are wise to these baseball philosophies very young now. He says a player like Jack Cust spent a lot of time honing his Saber friendly abilities in the minors but didn't spend enough time learning how to play baseball. I don't know if my brother made that up or there was some rumors of that sort of thing in the bay area. I think there is something to be said about a player who can learn to take a bunch of walks and hit for power but doesn't take the time to at least learn how to be an okay corner outfielder.
  9. The Hawks win also clinched a playoff berth for the Wings:)
  10. The Royals-Cards rivalry is, in a sense, like the White Sox-Cubs rivalry. If the White Sox had been baseball-irrelevant the last 15 years and were finishing last in their division 9 times out of 10, maybe. Yeah, but the 85 WS still rubs many Cardinal fans the wrong way.
  11. I think the best thing for Clausen is to go to a team later in the first round where he can spend a couple of years carrying the clip board. I think the perfect thing would be for him to be drafted by the Vikings and for Farve to come back 1 or 2 more years.
  12. I disagree. That rule was ridiculous, goals being waved off when the goalie wasn't interefered with at all. There is subjectivity to the same degree in all sports. It can't be avoided. If they would have stuck with it though, in a couple of more years the players would have made changes and by now it would be uncommon. I always thought that goalie equipment needed to be smaller if they were going to have this rule.
  13. not really about the NHL or the Hawks, but this is a very funny video that involves hockey, chris chelios, scotty bowman and JULES
  14. Because Pearl has had teams who have had to vacate 2 Final Fours and left two teams on probation? So baseless accusation is the same thing as TWO instances of NCAA punishment? Really? There has likely never- ever- been a coach under more scrutiny than Pearl, and despite this, the NCAA has never had reason to sniff around at Tennessee under him. But, by all means, let's compare him to a coach who's never been to a Final 4, despite having taken two separate teams to one. and lets not forget Pearl spent a lot of time in coaching purgatory for his mistake in the Deon Thomas affair.....and most Illinois fans seem to forget that they got put on probation for legitimate violations and still retained the assistant coach who was most responsible for the violations.
  15. for all the painful reviews and the botched call in the Stanley Cup finals, the 2 or 3 years that all goals were waved off for having a player in the crease was at least an objective clear rule that was easily enforced. The NHL allows way to much subjective judgment from their officials
  16. I wish I liked BB better. MSU's best success has been in BB, though the hockey team won NT a couple of years ago.
  17. No, it's not possible. Because prior to those rooftops going "corporate", there were very few people up there. It was a hoot to see 5 people on a rooftop, so they showed it on TV. If anything, the rooftops take away what would otherwise be bleacher attendees. I dont know when they went corporate, but back in the 70s they were just people who lived in the buildings. You couldn't go up there unless because the buildings were always locked. I am not sure when landlords finally figured that they should build bleachers and charge admission.
  18. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7DlAjrhm9s&feature=related today is the 13th anniversary of this game. It is akin to a Holiday for Wings fans.
  19. IDK My brother and I often went to Wrigley in the late 70s and got bleacher seats with no problem. Place was mostly empty and the neighborhood around the park was not nearly as thriving as it is today.
  20. I would feel much better is there were more than 2 points between the Wings and not being in the playoffs. I am happy they have separated themselves some from everyone except Calgary and are pulling up on the Avs. The Wings also still have 3 games with the Blue Jackets and 1 with the Oilers. One other thing that the Wings have now is Franzen. The guy usually plays his best at this point in the season. I have really learned to appreciate just how good he is. In the past I thought he was a good player made very good by his linemates. I am starting to believe that Datsyuk needs Franzen to be real good also.
  21. I'm not sure how much of a psychological hurdle there is here. It's not like they have a long history of falling to them in the playoffs. And just 2 years ago this team handled Detroit pretty well in the regular season when they weren't even playoff caliber. I agree with this. I think San Jose and Phoenix probably have more of a hurdle to overcome with Detroit then the Hawks. The Hawks have probably played Detroit as well as anyone except Anaheim in the last 3 years. I haven't put a lot of thought into who I wish the Wings would play in the first round because I am still very concerned about the Wings even making the playoffs. I however think the Chicago would be my last choice out of the possible opponents for the Wings. Coyotes would probably be my first.
  22. USA is a republic not a democracy. Representing your constituents in a Republic is not always about the majority rule. If some intelligent congressman realized in 2003 that the outcome of the War in Iraq was very predictable and would lead to what it basically has become, should have still been in favor of funding the war because a large majority of Americans were for the War?
  23. Never been more upset about a 2 goal lead. It appears the Hawks are out playing them having outshot them 28-19, we'll see. I think the Hawks were easily the better team tonight.
  24. I believe it was a detroit based blogger doing what all columnists have done, say something stupid to get attention. it was some detroit based blogger who said something a couple of weeks ago. I dont think that there is anything inappropriate about what happens during the anthem at the UC. Somehow this whole thing reminds me of Slapshot where the ref comes up to one of the Hanson brothers during the anthem and starts yelling at him and the Hanson says "I am listening to the song"
  25. with each game the Red Wings are starting to resemble the team that I know more and more. For the first time this season I am starting to get excited about there chances to actually make a run in the playoffs.
