  1. http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/The-Blind-Side-Where-the-NHL-must-focus-on-hits;_ylt=AinoPsZzIvLS0l71cUmxttJ7vLYF?urn=nhl,226602 pretty solid blog about the blind side hits.
  2. I am not sure Q is the right coach to bring Huet out of a slump though.
  3. Question: What was the save percentage in the regular season of the goalie who put up those numbers? without looking my guess would be that it was below .900. Also there was a lot of talk of needing to upgrade at goalie at the deadline last year for the Wings. Osgood was just not very good in the regular season last year. Conklin was just not good enough to take the job.
  4. I found it amazing that there were Pittsburgh homers who were trying to justify that hit. Yes he should get suspended. I think it is time the NHL really starts to step it up on goon hits. This is not the case with Matt Cooke, but often a 2 game suspension for some of these guys may actually help their teams. Is Minnesota really missing Boogard? If they started giving out 5+ game suspensions it will start putting a dent into goonery, especially if they did it in the playoffs. Boogard probably doesnt want to get suspended 5 games because that will become a lot of money. Pittsburgh doesn't want to be without Cooke for 5 games, because he is a valuable player. I could rant for hours on the subject of goons and inappropriate fighting in the NHL. I just want to point out that yesterdays Hawks/Wings game was fast paced, physical, and very entertaining game. Somehow they did all that without any goon tactics and stupid fighting. I think Pierre even mentioned at one point that it was refreshing to watch a player give a clean hit and not have to worry about some goon retaliating, or something like that.
  5. Fontenot and Soto really looked unhappy last year
  6. Or how about Kane just standing there after he got his pocket picked on Detroits 5th goal. After he lost the puck all he had to do was put his body into Datsyuk and it's no harm. I think Detroit needed this game a lot. Like UMfan said, at the end of the day just another game for Chicago. I almost hate to say this but I think the hattrick really hurt the Hawks. I am a big Ladd fan, but the couple of minute delay is not what the Hawks needed there. Not complaining. Two of Detroits goals were because of defensive breakdowns, the one you mention and the 2 on 0 they scored on. Take those away and the Hawks win. Two of Chicagos goals were on defensive breakdowns, also. When playing against a skilled team, defensive breakdowns do happen sometimes. I am not a Huet basher and still think he could right the ship and be good in the playoffs, but the truth is that you have to make some of those stops when the d breaks down. It really looks like whenever the Hawks have a breakdown anymore it is a guaranteed goal.

  8. Every time I look at the bottom half of the West standings, I get cold sweats. If the Wings make it, it's 50/50 we get them in the first round, and that's just a nightmare scenario. If I was a Hawks fan I would be nervous about Anaheim also. They are a team that is built for the playoffs. again with the anaheim stuff? I have seen enough of Anaheim in the playoffs 2 out of the last 3 yrs to have a ton of respect for them, that is all.
  9. Your description of Anaheim sounds a lot like Vancouver, who I also consider a favorable matchup for the Blackhawks. Vancouver is not good at the little things, Winning battles in the corners, finishing checks, creating havoc in front to the goalie. There is less room to operate in the playoffs usually and I dont think Vancouver has learned how to play in a tighter game yet.
  10. Anaheim is a good matchup for us. The more slow, physical teams we play in the playoffs, the better. the officiating gets somewhat laxed in the playoffs. Anaheim is a team that is well schooled in the principles of borderline obstruction that often does not get called in the playoffs. They also have a goalie that can steal a game or two. They also have a top line that is capable of putting up 3 goals in a game once or twice a series. I would predict the Hawks to beat the Ducks, but in 6 or 7. I also think the Hawks would beat the Wings.

  12. For years I got great seats at the UC for Wings/Hawks games for next to nothing...I can't express how depressing it is to have to pay a lot for 300 level seats. It would be nice of Hawks fans to let us Wings fans fill up the UC still. I think that is real cool salukifudd. I really hope you enjoy the game. I really hope the Wings win though, cause they need to points badly. it would be even nicer if the Wings would hurry up and become irrelevant. :hello: you really dont want that. trust me, nashville is just not a fun rivalry.

  14. And some people have said he aint clutch
  15. Atlanta's version of the Atlanta plan seemed to involve several quality position players becoming major league regulars through the years. I think Jersey mentioned that he would rather the Cubs drafted Tex instead of Prior. Is it possible that Texieria would not have developed into the player he did if he was drafted by the Cubs?
  16. traffic in front of goalie helps improve shooting percentage
  17. so besides jake and mike's predictions of their favorite teams being surprise teams. Does anyone else have a team that they think may actually surprise this year? I know the Reds and the Orioles have gotten some pub.
  18. ok, I am going to kind of agree with Kyle on a hockey subject. Goalies tend to be fickle creatures. I think it is just as likely that someone like Huet gets on a streak and helps carry the Hawks to the cup as several other goalies who have in the past. This is getting way ahead here, but I also think Hawk fans need to be careful in not just blaming everything on goaltending, especially in the play-offs.
  19. This Sunday they should get 2 goals behind the Wings. I am sure that the Wings have blown more 2 goal leads than any team in the league
  20. Not enough traffic. I havent watched the whole game but what I have watched it appears that the Hawks are not putting a lot of traffic in front.
  21. I dont think Anaheim is going to be a seller, they have gotten themselves in the playoff picture.
  22. looking at this list again, I also notice that if you take away a 4-5 yr span in the late 80s/early 90s you only have Dunston and some of the newer guys. Even some of the other names mentioned fall into that time period(martinez, may, jackson) Not sure what that means, but covering a 40+ year period that cant be good.
  23. I think since the output is that bad, it is probably a combo of both
  24. Mark Grace Rafael Palmeiro Jerome Walton Dwight Smith Shawon Dunston Damon Berryhill Joe Girardi Corey Patterson Ryan Theriot Geo Soto Rick Wilkens Jody Davis Oddly enough, that list is littered with catchers. sorry, I meant with the Cubs. are you sure Jody was a Cub prospect? like I said in another post Patterson, Walton and Wilkens were at least given every opportunity to prove they could play after initial success. Smith was a player that had some success but the Cubs never seemed to think he was an everyday player. I may be wrong but I never remember Berryhill being a regular, if so,not for 3+ years. Even counting all those guys it is a pretty sad list after Grace and Palmero
  25. I dont remember Richmond ever playing for the Hawks.
