  1. yep. the florida defense was too busy breaking into cars and shooting up clubs in gainesville. kudos to michigan. they outplayed florida fair and square. people are taking the loss thing way out of proportion. if some of you would actually read what i posted, you'd realize that my point was that losses arent very important when you're outplaying the other team and losses generally are expected to happen. A loss like this obviously matters. florida wasnt outplayed in the auburn or lsu losses (georgia yes). "losses" are inherently taken account of when you look at say score among other things (the last i checked the losing team is outscored in a game... so losses matter quite a bit). Theyre just not end all be all that you guys think. A team with 1 or 2 more losses than another may certainly be the better team. It isnt a new concept. It isnt an earth-shattering one. You all accept the same principle in baseball, you would be stupid not to in football. look at USC. Theyre the best team in the country and have two losses. I have to agree with this. A four loss Michigan team who played most of the season with a hurt QB or a true freshman backup was clearly better than a three loss Florida.
  2. Illinois probably cost themselves at least 17 points because of turnovers and stupid plays. I dont think they are in USC's league but I think the game was not quite as bad as the final score.
  3. I usually cheer for the Big Ten in bowl games no matter what. I was surprised how happy I was today with Michigan beating Florida.
  4. Beaten???? The only thing that kept that from being a blowout were Michigans 4 turnovers. Michigan flat out thumped them.
  5. Big Ten is obviously inferior here. I cant believe they even let Michigan on the same field
  6. I thought Michigan would wait until they were down by a couple of TDs before they broke out of there 2 TE run left offense. I think they will give Florida all they can handle if they keep up this style of offense
  7. I would recommend going to a couple of Peoria Rivermen games. relatively cheap and a pretty high quality of hockey. Most hockey fans are very happy to explain the nuances of the game to newcomers. Thats if you live in Pekin. The Chicago Wolves would be better if that is an option. Same level and league as the Rivermen but a better following. It is a lot funner live than on TV and once you really understand the nuances I think its a pretty exciting sport. Much more action than in FB or Basketball.
  8. After being originally optimistic about MSU's chances to beat Boston College. I am now hoping we dont get blown out. The only chance we have is for Hoyer to play way above his head. Overall I have decided to be pleased with the direction MSU is going. I wasnt sure what to expect before the season. Pleased we at least made a Bowl game. Somewhat disappointed we lost a couple of games that we should have won. At least we arent just doing stupid thing after stupid thing to lose. Also when the season could have gone in a Tailspin after losing to Michigan. They really pulled it together and finished strong. I agree though if I was going to bet on this game I would take BC and give the points. I will be extremely happy if MSU covers, exstatic if they win.
  9. In which of these games do you believe the Big Ten is going to pull off the upset? It's interesting to me that you make excuses and accuse Meph of making excuses in the same post. As for the first part, any of the 3. I dislike Michigans chances the most though. For how great the SEC was supposed to be last year the Big Ten did take 2 out of 3. Really I am not looking for some kind of who is the better conference arguement. The SEC is better this year. However its not like they are all NFL quality and the Big Ten is Mac quality. As for the 2nd part, touche'. Your right. However the Big Ten most certainly has disadvantages in Bowl games. They still have managed to go 15-15 against the SEC in the last ten years in bowl games. Anyway, I think what really bothers most of us non-SEC fans is the superior attitude that the SEC seems to have about FB. Like I have always said, They may be the best year in year out. However they are not that superior that the SEC championship game is some sort of quasi National Title game.
  10. Meph, The Big Ten is obviously down a little this year. However they will win at least 1 of the 3 games against your vaunted SEC. 2 of which a home games for the SEC teams. I know you will have some sort of excuse that it didnt count or matter or something because the seagulls were all flying the wrong way causing the SEC teams to be confused. Really Bowl games are mostly meaningless anyway. Purdue did trounce Central Michigan by 30 points earlier this season. Central Michigan improved as the season progressed. Purdue probably were better at the beginning of the season. Purdue wouldnt even have made a bowl game if Illinois didnt get selected to the Rose Bowl.
  11. as an alumnus, i'm totally excited with this seemingly last-minute turn-of-events. all the rumors about brady hoke made me want to burn my diploma. the fact that he's bringing gibson (db coach) and magee (oc) might mean debord's gone. excellent. DeBord was on his way out anyway. Run left hasn't worked for years. I'm also excited about Rich Rod bringing our strength and conditioning program into the 21st century as well. I do hope they keep Ron English on as DC. I wasnt so sure about what would happen with Debord. His status caused a lot of consternation after reading all the rumors of what was going on in this process behind the scenes. I was never so sure until RR was hired. The new guard at AA won on this one. As for Mallett ill be surprised if he transfers. He burnt his redshirt and transfering would cost him another year. Plus after listening the RR's presser this morning there were at least 3 questions about his offense and how it will fit in. He said that his spread offense is moldible to the talent of a passing or running qb and in the past they have geared it towards a throwing qb and utilizing the skill position players. I thought Mallett was a true freshmen this year.
  12. You're gonna be sad when Mallet transfers, but thrilled when Pryor signs with Meeechigan. Pryor in that offense would be nasty. My son told me this morning that Mallet's dad says he is staying. At least for now.
  13. I think Mallett would do pretty good in a spread offense. Though he isnt fast or a runner, he does seem mobile. Able to pick up some decent yards if the recievers are covered.
  14. Just for a little fun with the Mitchell report. I think we ought to come up with a list of guys who we wished were named but were not. I have to admit, If I was routing for anyone to actually be named it was probably Clemens. However a few other players didnt get named that I kind of wished would have so here goes 3 off the top of my head Jeff Kent Big Papi Curt Schilling
  15. I am going to go completely another direction with this. I have always wondered if Barry Bonds wasnt such a Jerk that noone likes, would we be were we are today with this Investigation? I still think what really motivates this whole hunt is a general dislike for Barry Bonds. I think anyone with any kind of common sense would have to come to the exact same conclusions about PEDS in regards to Roger Clemens as they would Barry Bonds. If they were looking at the evidence fairly anyway. I dont think Clemens breaking records is what has motivated this whole Mitchell thing. I think the dislike for Barrry Bonds is what has really motivated the whole thing.
  16. Ok here is the article that I found. It doesnt say that Everett is better than Jeter overall. But closer than most would expect. http://www.billjamesonline.net/fieldingbible/jeter.asp
  17. I have no idea where I read it at except to say I read it online about a year ago. Bill James wrote an article that basically claimed that Adam Everett was a better SS overall than Derek Jetter.
  18. Why wont they just let LaRoche play 3rd? Inge couldnt be much better.
  19. So Dallas is 12-1. Except the 1 is a butt kicking from the team that is 13-0 Anyway as I have mentioned before I really could care less about the NFL. If I didnt play fantasy fb, I probably would know next to nothing about the NFL. I find it boring and over hyped. Anyway, today my internet was out most of the day, It was icing outside. My rec league BB game got cancelled. Most of my kids were somewhere else. So I actually sat down and was going to watch some NFL. Only to find out that the 2 games I had on were Oakland/Green Bay and St Louis/Cinncinati. Its no wonder I find this league so boring. Everytime I switched back neither game got switched to a better game until they were over. So basically I fell asleep and missed most of the the Steelers and Pats.
  20. DeBord needs to go no matter who is brought in. The run-left, zone-blocking scheme just doesn't work. He's been terrible in his time at U of M. I dont know if its the run left zone blocking scheme that doesnt work. Its that everyone knows what play Michigan is going to run that doesnt work. What I find incredible is how good their offense looks when they are forced to open it up and play 3 or 4 receiver sets. Almost unstoppable. I think the smartest coaching job I have seen in awhile was Pete Carroll last year in the Rose Bowl. He knew he could score at will against Michigan. He also knew Michigan could probably score at will against them if they opened it up. So he kept the game close for a half with a conservative offense. Kept Michigan in a run mode. He came out and opened it up in the 3rd quarter. Michigan was down 2 scores before they finally opened up their offense. Except it was too late. If USC goes up 2 scores in the first half that game probably would have turned into a shootout that Michigan may have caught up with them
  21. Rutgers seems to run a very conservative style offense. I have only seen them 4 or 5 times the last couple of years though. Fit right in with what the Michigan higher ups (lloyd carr) would want.
  22. Looks like Marc Crawford ordered the Todd Bertuzzi hit against Scott Moore http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=Al4wb5SxRdKEHeUdRcJFSSp7vLYF?slug=ap-moore-bertuzzilawsuit&prov=ap&type=lgns
  23. I think even if the Twins trade Santana, the Sox will be in last place next year. Sadly though I dont think they are much worse than the Cubs.
  24. Assuming Zook stays at Illinois................. He's going to be a legend in Illinois! I can't remember the last time I was this excited about Illinois football! Keep it up, Zooker! Not to pour water on the excitement. Lou Tepper was a great recruiter. Always had top 15 classes. Not saying Zook will end up like Tepper, but recruiting isnt everything. Of course Illinois fans couldnt wait to get rid of Tepper. I dont think they thought the next guy could be worse.
  25. I am not usually one of those guys who gets caught up too much into a players character. However in Bradleys case his character does seem to get in the way of his playing. He is a heckuva player when he plays. He just is not someone that can be counted on.
