  1. I always thought that one of the things that kind of go against Santo is that there are already 3 HOFers from the Cub teams of his era. Which is quite a few for a team that never won anything. I think he deserves to be in, but I think that there are probably some voters who think this way
  2. I would like to see Dubois brought up mainly because if we are bringing up Pie, Hoffpair and Hill, we would have and even more predominately LH bench. Personally I would rather see Dubios ph against a LH than any other option we currently have or would have.
  3. Michigan is returning something like 9 starters on defense....and arent completely talentless on offense...I have a bad feeling they arent going to be as bad as many think I was hoping Michigan St would get no votes. I am pretty excited about this upcoming season. I think they could be a surprise team like Illinois were last year.
  4. kinda what i was thinking...if you're going to throw out ridiculous nicknames at least make sense with them. I was more thinking how far Illinois football has come in the last year for a Buckeye fan to have enough disdain to come up with a crappy nickname for it. I wish OSU had a crappy nickname for MSU.
  5. Doesnt everyone in baseball already hate Jeff Kent?
  6. I went with The Incredibles. I think Wall-e is good but dont quite understand all the love for it. I would put it close to the bottom of the Pixar list
  7. I wouldnt go to just any movie alone. I like to see movies like "No Country for Old Men" alone.
  8. its not like ARam hasnt had his fair share of "big" hits as a Cub. anyway who says crede is better than ARam doesnt even deserve a response.
  9. My all-time favorite player. Kronwall has started to remind me of Konstitinov. Still not nearly as good; but good puck handler, nasty and solid defensively.
  10. I am very very happy!!!!!!!!!!!! Could you imagine if Pitts would have scored a game tying goal after the blatant trip against Datsyuk didnt get called.
  11. Ok mediocre may not be the correct term. He has only garnered Cy Young votes 3 times. All later in his career. I dont think anyone at anytime in his career would have said he was one of the top 10 pitchers in baseball. I understand some of this is more perception than fact. I know wins arent a great stat to measure pitchers but he has averaged less than 12 for a career. Take away his 3 best years and his overall W-L record is pretty mediocre. I guess what me and my friend were saying is that Moyer has had a pretty unique career. I also am not trying to rip Moyer. He has always been a player that I have rooted for and thought was underrated before 2000. I was upset when the Cubs traded him.
  12. I was talking to a good friend, who has a great mind for baseball history. We were talking about Jamie Moyer, and were wondering if there has ever been anyone in baseball history who has pitched for more than 20 years and was basically mediocre as him? There are probably several knuckleballers(charlie hough, joe neikro), but couldnt think of any non-knuckleballers who pitched as long as moyer and were truly mediocre. I think he has 1 all-star game appearance. How many pitchers in baseball history have pitched over 20 yrs and have 1 or no all-star game appearances?
  13. That was just a heart wrenching game!!!!! I was already skating around my living room with the Stanley Cup raised above my head. OSGOOD, COVER THE POST. If Pittsburgh somehow wins this series I will be shocked. You cannot be consistently outplayed like they have been and win a series, can you?
  14. Going home up 3-1. I think it is over on Monday. Pens played well again tonight, but not really any better than the Wings.
  15. Stars upset both Anehiem and San Jose, with Turco stealing several games. Both those teams would have given Detroit a very difficult series.
  16. The difference between the Western and Eastern Conference in the NHL is pretty big right now. I was pretty disappointed with the Pens. I understand gooning it up a little after you get your butts handed to you for a couple of games. To intentionally go for Franzens head with cheapshots was terrible.
  17. They showed 13,000 go to mellon arena to watch the game in Pittsburgh. I was wondering how many of those people dont have versus.
  18. Wings really control game 1. Pittsburgh should have scored a goal, but the refs did take one away from the wings. Crosby and Malkin were complete non-factors
  19. I really think this series is pretty good for hockey. It wont give the NHL that much of an increase in fans though. I think the only thing that will really help the league is to lose about 6 teams and start calling interference and stick to it.
  20. I think this would be a great tip for any commissioner. Never comment on officiating after the fact. Never apologize for a bad call or never support you referees for questionable calls. Just let the game be the game and it will go away. Humans making errors are part of the game. It may be officiating or the players making plays. Adding any comments afterwards is only going to fuel the fire.
  21. I am scared to say this, but Detroit looks so dominate right now. I know that Dallas doesnt have anyone as good as Crosby and Malkin, but I dont think it makes a difference if you never have the puck. I just dont see anyone beating the Wings right now.
  22. I think Simmers is just using the whole thing to show off that he lost 14 lbs. "Look I am better than a pro athlete"
  23. Well the only team I am cheering for is Detroit. They have played well but Nashville was easily the worst team to make the playoffs in the West and maybe overall. Colorado had a bunch of injuries also. I actually have been more impressed with Dallas. I think they are the team to beat right now.
  24. if the calls go nearly 2 to 1 against us like they did in the montreal series, there's no way we beat pittsburgh. we beat montreal because biron played very well and their goalies were pretty lousy. there are no signs that fleury will crack like price did. i hope it is a good series (likely) with good officiating (highly unlikely). i'm much less optimistic about our chances than i was the year that we lost to tampa in 7 games in the e.c. finals. and i don't even want to get into the 2000 e.c. finals, that still burns as bad as the cubs' 2003 flame out. 2 Things. Both Anehiem and San Jose are better teams than Pittsburgh. Dallas beat both of them. If Pittsburgh plays Detroit, I am sure that Crosby and Malkin will see plenty of Lidstrom, Rafalski, Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Will they have the puck enough to score? So I certainly wouldnt give Pittsburgh the Stanley Cup just yet. Also Biron has been really good. Truffle I didnt watch the whole series between Montreal and the Flyers, but what I saw I would say the officiating wasnt that bad. Not any worse than any other series that I watched. It usually ends up going both ways also. Overall I think NHL officiating isnt very good, especially in the playoffs where they change the rules. But I dont think its any worse for the Flyers than anyone else.
