  1. Why should Avery be banned forever? He shouldnt have even been suspended. Of course Dallas should have never signed him to that ridiculous contract either.
  2. i understand where you're coming from with these statements, but Detroit is freakishly potent with a pulled goalie. the other night Phoenix outplayed them the entire game, until 1:30 left where Michalek stupidly puts the puck over the boards in the neutral zone and draws a minor. and predictably, Hossa sets up Franzen for the tie and Hank undresses Bryzgalov for the shootout W. not that this anecdote alone means much, but they did essentially the same thing in the Hawks and Kings games, among others i'm forgetting atm. they could be outscoring teams by a wider margin but it really looks like they're coasting right now. i still hate denis gauthier. a lot. not for that specifically, but he makes crappy decisions like that all the time. maybe Murray instructed Gauthier to throw the game like that to show his appreciation to Det for Kyle Quincey seems plausible. btw Quincey is way cool. every time he shoots the puck good things happen. i doubt he would've seen the success he's having with the Kings if he were still with Detroit, but it makes you wonder what they see in guys like Lilja or Lebda or even Stuart over him. Stuart is so inconsistent, i was really surprised that he got a contract from Detroit in the summer with all of the depth they have. i wonder if Lombardi would've claimed Quincey if Johnson didn't get hurt. I understood re-signing Stuart, it was Lilja that I questioned. I have never figured out what anyone sees in Lebda and think he would be better served being converted to a forward. The Wings were forced into trading Quincey because he would have had to clear waivers to go back to Grand Rapids. they didn't trade him, they put him on waivers. that to:)...I knew they were trying to trade him because they would have had to put him on waivers...For some reason I just assumed they picked up a 8th round pick or something for him.

  4. Detroit has also been getting some bad goaltending. Without looking it up, I would be willing to bet that they are much better than Chicago in shots/shots allowed per game. Also everyone gets up to play the Wings, I dont think Chicago is getting that kind of intensity level from most of their non-divisional games.
  5. there are plenty of players who are or were whiners and divers....I think what separates Crosby and Gretzky from guys like Messier and Forsberg is that Crosby and Gretzky avoid the dirty work all together. So when the whine and dive they come off as wimps to standard hockey fans
  6. Is there any stupider argument than he had the same amount of 100 runs scored season as someone else. Its a decent argument if every other stat were similar. It is like saying someone should be in the Hall because he had a higher BA than Harmon Killebrew. I think you would just have to look at team runs scored almost every year to see how much more valuable OBP is than HRs or even slugging.
  7. If you are a team that goes out of its way to keep the payroll low, why are you paying Jack Wilson 7.25 million. No wonder the Pirates suck
  8. Raines overcame his drug problem and still had a productive career afterward. Not very many guys in baseball can make that claim. I think both Raines and Dawson suffer from not playing on championship teams. If the Expos would have at least won a couple of divisions during their time, it would improve their cases. What percentage of votes do you have to have to stay on the ballot? I am not advocating this guy for the HOF but Daryl Evans isnt on the ballot anymore and Jim Rice may make the HOF. Proves just how stupid baseball writers are.
  9. I am a huge Henderson fan also...this is not me trying to put down Rickey...I just know that he is not very popular as a person, which is obviously a standard to some voters
  10. Henderson and Ripken had careers that lasted about the same time period. I think it is interesting that Henderson was probably a better player, but will probably not come close to getting as many votes as Ripken.
  11. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=ArPzNGmGtok9YlF5aQpmJyoRvLYF?slug=ap-halloffameballot&prov=ap&type=lgns Personally I think Henderson should be a slam dunk. However he was very unpopular early in his career. He was not very popular with sportswriters. Is there any chance he doesnt make it first ballot.
  12. How so? I don't see how an "extremely" young team can be an excuse anymore. If Weis was any good he should have had a quality team out there this year, but they aren't good. By firing a coach every 3 or 4 years. Perspective coaches have to think that they have a very short leash to obtain unreasonable results. Weis has 2 BCS appearances and an improving team this year after the talent bottomed out from previous coaches recruiting. If I was a top level coaching candidate I would prefer going with Tenn or Clemson.
  13. I have a question for the ND guys. Is Weis really the problem? I have never been a fan of his and really thought ND was stupid to give him the big extension. However he is still playing with an extremely young team that has improved over last years team. He obviously is not a top tier coach, but is he really so bad that they may fire him and buy out his huge contract? By doing something like that they would only be giving more credit to those who think ND is not a top of the line job anymore.
  14. I have a feeling this is going to be the year that the BCS is really going to be questioned. If Florida beats Alabama, this thing is going to be one huge mess
  15. I think they are changing that. I absolutely agree with this post though.
  16. Old worn out with a bad contract
  17. I dont think this is Jimmy Rollins bad. Part of the issue seems to be that if there is no clear cut winner like Pujols, the MVP should come from a playoff team. The AL playoff teams were not full of MVP candidates. Of course I heard plenty of idiots saying things like Manny should have been MVP over Pujols because Manny got his team in the playoffs. Of course they completely miss the fact that the Cardinals had a better record than the Dodgers.
  18. in other words, "i don't really understand the rule well enough to explain my position" I understand the rule--which is why I know it was the correct call. well you've won me over with that convincing argument, sorry i was off base. http://homepages.cae.wisc.edu/~dwilson/rfsc/intro/ Pass Interference: Grabbing or tackling the pass receiver while the pass is in the air. The defender must wait until the ball arrives. However, the defender can try the catch the ball himself, so he may collide with the receiver as they both try to make the catch. If there is interference, the penalty is 15 yards (or to the point of interference if that's less) and a first down is granted even if the ten yards has not been made. argument....with facts
  19. than make an argument, besides "it was blatant PI." What is your understanding of the rule? I made an argument.
  20. defensive player was making a play for ball, so no interference...know the rules I know the rules. In fact, I'd say anyone who doesn't think that was anything but blatant PI has a dubious grasp at best of the rules. It was obvious. So if that was an offensive player making that play, would it have been offensive interference...NO...because both players have the right to the ball, the PSU player was making a play for the ball, not interfering. I understand the rule
  21. defensive player was making a play for ball, so no interference...know the rules
  22. ball was 5 yards short of the line of scrimmage... refs are really missing a good game this drive. also still in the tackle box
  23. thats grounding
  24. that wasnt interference...defensive player has just as much right for the ball
  25. That McDonaugh guy is really good at his job.
