  1. Boy if I knew there were no mods on the hockey threads, my true feelings for the Hawks would have come out more often!!
  2. You mean you don't know the sabremetrics of hockey? IGNORED. well you see martin brodeur is clearly a bad goalie because i say so and will not expound on this point, exposing myself to lots of criticism because i prefer to make vague, outlandish statements rather than thought out posts that back up my point. I know he has 3 stanley cups...but wins and loses are not the best way to measure how good a team or a player is. Marty Brodeur's random Anze number is .722. Cristobal Huet's is .832 the best goalie of all time is actually daren puppa. what an underappreciated gem! I remember his daughter being named "Isabella Megan Puppa". What a horrible combo of names I think his daughters name probably gave him .5 in the Anze random number rating system
  3. So what is Darren Puppa's random Anze number?

  5. I dont think Dunn adds to the logjam in the OF. How many of those guys mentioned are legitimate starting ofers on a contending team?
  6. Boston/San Jose on versus tonight. Glad the see the NHL/Versus isnt completely incompetent.
  7. i think you overestimate the western conference. Not last year...they were quite a bit better last year. I think it has really evened out this year.
  8. I understand why the NHL does the marketing that they do. It is based on the how the NBA markets its game. More player driven than team driven. Sadly teams like San Jose and Boston who dont have a big out front marketable player get way under appreciated. I know I gripped a couple of times this year that the Wings and Sharks game wasnt nationally covered anywhere, yet this game today which isnt nearly as important because it is not a conference game is hyped as the a huge game. The funny thing is that Pittsburgh isnt a very good team, nor were they that good last year. They would have not gotten out of the first round in the West last year.
  9. because everybody hates the red wings Cool, noone hates the Thrashers.
  10. Why do Penguins fans boo Hossa? I thought they never had any real chance to re-sign him because of cap issues. I thought the Oilers were the other major option for him to go to.
  11. Legace is better than Osgood! I get the feeling Osgood is going to get benched also. I think when a team is doing poorly and not drawing well, it is in a tough spot. Giving discounts to fill the place seems logical. But it can backfire by alienating the STHers. I think the only way to handle this is to make sure that you are going to put a competitive team on ice next season.
  12. How do you feel about Zetterberg getting mugged by 3 players and Jovo cross checking him repeatedly in the back of the head? I feel that I hope this is the kind of thing that gets the Wings a little motivated to play better hockey! Although the Wings generally dont play an enforcer, they are not the type of team that I would want to get under their saddle by doing crap like that. When they are on, they can flat out demoralize a team like Phoenix.(Kind of like they did to Chicago that left a lingering effect for several weeks) Jovanovski has been a dumb butt since his days in Florida. I am not a huge fan of +/- as a stat, but I think he has only been a + player once in his career. He has played on some good teams also
  13. I understand why they were angry. Not the best of calls with 43 secs left. Of course if the Coyotes get the puck on goal and score cause the d-man has extra time because of that holding, I am sure the Wings wouldnt be very happy either. I have to say this. Chris Chelios is very bad at NHL hockey at this point in his life.
  14. I still think the Giants might as well go all in and sign Manny. I think they would be serious contenders this year with him.
  15. He is on the first line in Holmstroms absense. Personally from what I have seen so far, he doesnt play well with Hossa and Datsyuk. My guess is this is more a function that Datsyuk is a different type of player than almost anyone in hockey and probably takes some time to get adjusted to. He didnt play last night in the 3rd period!? I didnt see anything that deserved him to sit. The whole team looked like pooh again, hard to single out Leino. My guess though is he will be the replacement for Hossa or Franzen, whichever one the Wings dont sign.
  16. NHL reffing, subjectivity at its best. The 5 minute boarding against Lilja last night was bad. That is an example of my biggest problem with NHL officiating. It is probably just a 2 minute minor if the Backes doesnt just lay there for 3 minutes. He also came out and played on the PP. Game misconduct is mandatory with a 5 minute major boarding penalty. Its like high sticking is a double minor if you cause blood. That is just stupid. I could cause a concussion with my stick, but that is just a minor, if the other guy is bleeding, double it.
  17. Or Cubs fans have really overrated our prospects, and felt they were worth alot more then they actually were, and felt they could get alot more value for them then they actually could. I'm willing to bet thats the case, and this is just more worthless complaining. I am not sure that any of these guys were ever over-rated. Pie was never given a chance. Hill performed very well for a year and a half. Wuertz was an effective bullpen arm. Cedeno probably was over valued by some. I think all of them had much higher trade values at various times in their Cub careers. I think the Cubs used some faulty logic with at least 2 of them that lowered their trade values. Also wasting options in a couple of cases probably helped lead to the point that they had to be traded so we just didnt lose them for nothing. I think it would be hard to say that the Cubs received maximum value for these guys. Also, at some point you have to question the Cubs ability to produce position players from their system. It cant just be bad drafting. If Soto starts 2 more years he will be just the 3rd position player in 40+ yrs that the Cubs have developed who has started more than 3 years for the Cubs. That cannot just be bad drafting. I think someone could just throw the best 500 players in the country in a hat and draw out a name randomly and still get better results.
  18. This game is painful to watch. It really reminds me of a U of I club game or something like that.
  19. a couple of thoughts. I would have rather gambled on a player who has had major league success, than any PTBNL we will get from Baltimore. Though I understand the decision to get what you can. I think it is down right ridiculous to say that a player, who made it to the majors, pitching with his non-dominate hand is not "mentally tough"
  20. If I was Sabean I would move on Manny and pay him the 3 yrs whatever million. It would be money better spent than anything else they have done this offseason. I think it also puts them in serious contention in that division. If the Giants were to make the playoffs with their starting pitching, who knows. I guess if you are building your team like Sabean is, why not just go all in and get Manny.
  21. They didn't trade Pie and Cedeno for him though, they traded Olson and Cedeno. Just because we got a good deal for Pie doesn't mean it's okay to turn around with the got you got and make a below average deal I agree with you, but at the root this is what happened. Olson was always going to be trade bait. I think this whole off-season has been a disaster so far. Probably the only bright spot was getting something with some trade value for Pie. Unfortunately Hendry just flushed that down the toilet also. I honestly think most of this is just an over-reaction to 3 games against the Dodgers. I still think we would beat the Dodgers on most days last year. I would rather the Cubs would have just brought the same team back. They were a better team last October than they are today.
  22. on its face trading Pie and Cedeno for Heilman doesnt seem like a good trade. However the Cubs will get more production from Heilman than they would from the first 2. I think this is just another case of the Cubs getting something after making a pile of nothing out of some talent.
  23. talking about suspending Datsyuk and Lidstrom for not playing in all-star game this is the only place I have read this so it may just be this guy blowing smoke http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Brian-Campbell-on-NHL-s-suspension-threat-to-inj;_ylt=Aq0jLgLKMVQVN6fjXcWNzKR7vLYF?urn=nhl,136496 oops looks like it is confirmed Datsyuk and Lidstrom out next week against Columbus http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=264365&lid=headline&lpos=topStory_main Datsyuk missed the end of the game against Pheonix the other night. Lidstrom has been slowed since his pre-winter classic injury. Think the NHL may be going overboard to make this stupid game more meaningful. Ok another edit and now a rant. NHL rules being subjectively administered again. Sid is also not playing but will not be suspended cause he has shown up to some stupid press conference so he gets an exception. Sounds like Bettman offered the same to the Wings players but Kenny Holland, the Wings GM, basically said he can blow it out his....
  24. I agree...though I think it would be cool if the Wings/Hawks brought them out once a year for a game. Are the Wings doing the same thing? I like your idea btw. I dont know...I usually just traverse through a couple of Wings boards, dont read the local newspapers that much. If they are it hasnt been a posted topic. The Wings dont currently use a third jersey either. I dont remember them ever having one. If they do its been a long time since it has been used. I think those Wings jerseys would be an awesome 3rd jersey. I really liked our all-black jerseys, but I got the perception that the Hawks really wanted to do something with their 3rd jersey for a while now. I really liked them, but hope they only use them once or twice a year. Maybe a home and home with the Hawks. How often do the Hawks use their 3rd jersey? 4 or 5 times a year?
  25. Lidstrom and Datsyuk are out for the all-star game. This actually makes me happy. No Wings replacing them. Not really disappointed. For those who thought Keith should have made it, Lidstroms replacement may not please you http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=ArChy83smFhb.5nk2rByWOd7vLYF?slug=ap-all-starroster&prov=ap&type=lgns
