  1. It wasn't about that game anymore, it was about the next one (or the next "series"). That may be true...but picking fights with the Sedins is not intimidating anyone, even the Sedins. I am not going to dig through the thread to find any examples, but this kind of goonery has been bashed by several Hawks fans here.
  2. Something tells me the Canucks didn't leave that game worried about getting pounded. When a team is willing to lay the hard checks and make a lot of contact, it impacts how a lot of guys go into the corners after pucks. It's just an instinct and a split-second reaction to take a path to the puck that won't get you killed. And that path is probably less likely to lead to possession of the puck. "Worried" isn't the correct term for it. Not to play word games, but I would say "mindful." On the flip side, the Hawks should be mindful of the fact that Vancouver will run them out of the building if they come out sleepwalking again. Thats not what the Hawks did though. They cheap shot the goalie and during all the tie ups, Burish went after one of the Sedins, who everyone knows doesnt fight. Why? Because they owned the Hawks all night. If the Hawks want to show me heart. In a big game, win the battles in the corners, finish their checks, make life miserable for the opposing goalie by having traffic in front of the net. Not only does this help you win, it disheartens the other team. My guess is Vancouver did not come out of last nights game worried about the heart the Hawks showed. Hopefully next game the Canucks will be more worried about Burish, Eager, and Byfuglien than Kane, Toews, and Sharp. At least that is the goal of something like that. See NJ vs. NYR last year. The hawks played terrible, yes, but Vancouver hardly dominated the game. Their goals were a result more of blackhawks mistakes than good plays on vancouver's part. I don't think the blackhawks walked away from the game scared of playing them in the playoffs either. And Luongo wasn't cheapshotted - he flopped Marty/Hasek style. It was definitely a goalie interference call, but it wasn't that bad. Yes you are probably right, the next time that the Canucks play the Hawks they are probably going to be worried that Burish, Eager, and Byfuglien are going to be goons after they get whooped at hockey. That is not what I was saying. Stop being a troll. I dont think I am being a troll, I am just giving a honest unbiased assessment of what happened the other night. I also understood what you are trying to say. What I am saying is that what the Hawks did on Sunday night will not lead to the results that you are wishing. Like I said in other posts, win battles in the corners, put consistent pressure on in front of the goalie, finish checks. Stand up when the other team is behaving like goons. That will get your desired effect.

  5. Aren't you a Wings fan? Yes, it sucked that the Hawks got their teeth kicked in where it counts, but I'm encouraged by the fact that they showed a little heart on a night when they clearly weren't going to beat Luongo. Now Montreal. Game is on Vs., by the way. I haven't been following them lately, but the last I heard they were in a freefall. So giving the goalie a cheap shot and getting into a line brawl with Vancouver while the Sedins and Burrows line is out there is showing heart?
  6. Just reading the box score, I would say you can have your agitator and Vancouver will take a sister, and win. Great job reading the box score, I guess. Those things can get confusing! And the sisters will be bolting from Vancouver in a few months most likely, so enjoy them while you can. Unless they lower their demands from $6M a year each (i think this is correct). You may be right, reading the box score may not of given me the whole picture of the game, but the Sisters had 2 goals and several assists in a 4-0 game. You guys can get all excited you want about a line brawl, but a Hawks started it, Hawks got whooped at home by a team that they are fighting for playoff position against and the Hawks did not clearly win any of these fights except for maybe Eager. But Burish did agitate well, that is something that doesnt show up in the box score. Also I am not a Canucks fan

  8. for some reason I get the feeling he will make it. He will somehow be given extra credit for being a "clean" player just because he said so.
  9. I dont think these goal celebrations are as new as some purest would like to believe. I cant remember who the guy was, but there was a guy in the 70s who rode his stick like a horse after scoring a goal. If that is the worse part of Ovechkins game, I can live with it.
  10. If Maddux would have left the Cubs and his career would have gone in the tank, would he be considered for jersey retirement? It seems to me that they are just retiring his number for these reasons. a. they were going to retire the number anyway for another player b. he had a Hall of Fame career, though a majority of it for another team Also, lets not forget, its not like Larry Himes didnt make a competitive offer to Maddux. Maddux and Boras were just as responsible for him leaving Chicago as Himes was. edit: of course I do wonder how we are retiring numbers for any player who wasnt a large part of winning a Championship. Yes, I understand that means there would be no numbers retired.
  11. I didnt believe the Hawks were an elite Western Conference team in December, I also dont believe that they are a Western Conference non-playoff team in March. They are going to finish 4-5 and may or may not advance, but will probably not advance past the 2nd round if they do. They still are a team that is moving in the positive direction though.
  12. Nothing personal, But I hope NJ wins tonight and Brodeur breaks Roys record. Roy is one of my least favorite athletes of all-time.
  13. I just read that Kiffin and staff just pretty much skipped the handler and went straight to the parents and Brown. good for them if that is true
  14. OK In My Opinion The only integrity of the game that has been damaged in my eyes is this. WE CARE MORE ABOUT RECORDS THAN WE DO INDIVIDUALS HEALTH. When people quit calling it cheating, and start calling it a health issue, than we can really do something about this problem.
  15. Jokenin has 2 goals and Leopold has one for Calgary...Leading the Flyers 4-0 late in 2nd
  16. Pahlsson is a great pick up for the Hawks.....I just think Wisniewski is a lot to give up for him, plus a pick.
  17. I am not sure if I like this move for the Hawks or not. I have always thought that Wisniewski was a very solid d man. Anaheim sure has stirred the pot today. Not sure it made the soup any better though.
  18. Antropov to Rangers Caricillo to Flyers Guerin to Penguins
  19. I know Anaheim has to clear up some cap room, but trading Pahlsson?
  20. "Breaking news, Connoly gets papercut signing contract extension... out indefinetely." its contracts like his, that is going to make someone like Franzen a very rich man.
  21. Nothing too earth shattering so far. Leopold is nice defensive depth. I thought Morrison may be a guy that Columbus would pick up.
  22. Columbus also cleared up Cap room by moving LeClair for Vermette....This could end up being a great move for Columbus.
  23. i don't think so. everyone else trading for either one knows it too. they were both held out of their game last night, so them being on the block is not news to anyone. this is true, but if not being traded is an option, that creates more of a market. I think Pronger isnt really off the market. I think anaheim is just increasing his value. They are willing to keep him since he has one more year on his contract, but my guess is that they would trade him in a heartbeat if the right deal presented itself. A lot of talk about the Wings getting Moore, I dont get it myself. I think the Wings have several in house options just as good. i don't buy it. ken holland doesn't usually buy into the hype machine over a completely mediocre player. he'll maybe make a more low key guy (like Stuart last year), he wouldn't go after someone like Moore, where Toronto has been trying to hype him and he's overvalued right now. It may just be message board hype. You are right about Holland to a degree. They are pretty cap tight also. So either Holmstrom will be out longer than expected or they would have to trade someone of close to equal salary.

  25. That kind of ties his hands, he just lowered their trade value.
