  1. There aren't any Detroit fans til the 2nd round of the playoffs ;) Wait a minute...actually there is some truth to this...of course there was no thing as a Blackhawk fan until this year You see, this is just trolling. Blackhawks has always had fans, Bill Wirtz was the reason why most stopped following the Hawks. Just because Bill Wirtz basically killed hockey in Chicago from the early 90s to 2006, doesn't mean there weren't Hawks fans. also, 26 more games and you guys will tie the flyers' record unbeaten streak. Now Red Wings fans are like Braves fans. that has a lot more to do with the michigan economy being completely in the toilet than it does with red wings fans not giving a crap any more. I think the economy does have something to do with it, ticket prices also. As a Wings fan though, I dont get that worked up over regular season hockey. I watch, I cheer but understand that it really isnt that important. Of course part of this is being spoiled. I expect us to win the division every year. So being a top 3 seed is usually a given. I enjoy that the Hawks are doing well and I certainly remember when the Wings came alive from the Dead things era and made me interested in Hockey again. Truth is though, over the last 15 years I have learned that regular season means little. Too many 1st round playoff losses to get that excited over a win against the Wild on Dec 28th.
  2. If Lidstrom is still out, Beating the Wings twice wont be that hard.

  4. I never heard anything, but I always thought that Swisher was going to struggle with the Sox because he probably didnt fit into the style of play that Ozzie likes. This is just some subjective observation from my point, but I think he is worth the gamble for the next couple of seasons.
  5. I know a couple of Illinois fans who never got over his lack of blocking out in the loss to Michigan in the Final Four.
  6. It was Crosby on national TV. It isn't Crosby's fault they called that a goal, or didn't suspend him for hitting someone in the back of the head and nuts while being held down... it's the NHL's... just watch the video I posted for those of you who haven't seen the "GOAL". To make it worse, it was in OT. I used to really like Crosby until he started realizing he was the golden boy and started getting away with stuff he shouldn't. That being said, he is still an excellent hockey player. One of the several reasons I gave up on NBA was the obvious Jordan Rules. NHL might want to realize that this kind of stuff is a turnoff to many many people. Crosby is a great player, as was Jordan, they dont need the game to be called their way to create more fans.
  7. Wow I just watched the highlights of the game winning goal last night(Crosby.) How they could review that and call it a goal is beyond me. I am not like Cynosure in my anti-Crosby nature, but if the NHL keeps this up, I might start having one.
  8. It wouldnt be collusion if there was not any discussion amongst the teams to do it. Even if there was discussion, is it different for one specific case as opposed to all the teams getting together and not offering all of the free agents like in the late 80s? Just wondering, I am not sure how it is written in the labor agreement.
  9. this may have already been brought up but I was looking at similar players through age 28 to Adam Dunn and found that several of these guys were very controversial on how good they actually were. 1. Darryl Strawberry (920) 2. Jose Canseco (906) 3. Harmon Killebrew (902) * 4. Rocky Colavito (895) 5. Reggie Jackson (889) * 6. Troy Glaus (867) 7. Tom Brunansky (865) 8. Barry Bonds (861) 9. Roger Maris (859) 10. Boog Powell (859) I am not a big fan of similarity scores for predicting a career. In this case I find it interesting because several of these players were widely criticized for being one-dimensional.
  10. 100% agreed. I hadn't seen the video until just now. What kind of pansy punches people with his gloves on. I like that Crosby has a physical element to his game. Someday I hope Toews and Kane do the same. But that's just ridiculous. He needs to get his ass whipped by someone. I really dont care that much that the league isnt reviewing it. It just bothers me that when Pittsburgh plays Atlanta again, anyone on Atlanta who looks at Crosby is probably going to get a game misconduct. The NHL has always had a police it yourself mentality, except there is no way that they are going to allow Eric Boulton to kick the crap out of Crosby. So Crosby will basically get away with it. I agree the league won't do anything. If I was in charge, that would be a one-game suspension. I would also, but if not dont suspend Eric Boulton if he takes on Crosby one on one. If Crosby wont take him on, it will just show everyone in Hockey what a turtle he really is and he will lose respect with everyone including his teammates. I might not like Claude Lemuiex but I at least respected that he lined up with McCarty and took the beating that he had coming

  12. It was obviously a melee, but doesnt 3rd man get a game misconduct at the minimum? I love the Red Wings!!! Your hate just reaffirms why
  13. true, but long before I was old enough to follow baseball...so he was always on non-Cub to me
  14. The list of players who have won the Calder trophy is pretty impressive. I wonder if any other sport has had such an impressive list of Rookie of the Year winners.
  15. I think Hawk Harrelson is probably the biggest DumbButt in all of sports...however he was telling a story of when he was the GM of the Sox he wanted to teach one pitcher who obviously wasnt going to make it every year the knuckleball. Pesonally I think it was a pretty good idea. The Niekro bros were 2 of my favorite non-Cubs ever..I hope this works out for Lance, I wouldnt bet on it though
  16. Detroit matched the whooping they took from San Jose a month ago at San Jose with a whooping of their own tonight in Detroit. This could be an epic 7 game series if they can both make it.
  17. that's what happens when the nhl shoots itself in the foot and limits itself to two nights a week on a channel that some nhl arenas don't even receive. They also create most of their schedule before the season even starts. Yahoo was streaming 2 games tonight also...neither one the Sharks/Wings though
  18. Rant...For the second time this year the Defending Champs are playing the team that has the best record and the fastest team ever to 50 points, with no national coverage. There is no way the NBA or the NFL would let a game of this magnitude not get national coverage.
  19. Jeter won a Gold Glove...so winning one does not preclude you from being a butcher in the field. I'm not trying to say that McLouth isn't a butcher, I don't really know, but I think when you are an unheard-of Pirate the chances that your gold glove is legitimate are a lot higher than if you are Mr. Awesome from the Yankees. good point
  20. I am concerned that the sight lines at Wrigley are not going to be at a good enough angle for the lower deck people to get a good view. The couple of Cubs games I went to this year, I was thinking that were I was at would not be high enough to see the Hockey game very well
  21. Jeter won a Gold Glove...so winning one does not preclude you from being a butcher in the field.
  22. Why do people watch the NFL? Why do people listen to Nickleback? Why do people read James Patterson books? I dont understand these things but Why do people like anything at all? Life would be boring if we all liked the same stuff. Cynosure is excited that his team that has been down for 10 years is getting good and has a very exciting game with an arch rival being played at Wrigley Field. It reminds me of the days awhile back when the Deadthings started to contend and become the Red Wings again.
  23. I went to a fight and a hockey thread broke out I thought Anze's post was funny..sorry cyno
  24. I dont think he can just be picked up cheaply. Either a team would have to take his contract in a trade or pick him up off waivers and pay half of his current salary for 4 years. I think he will play for Dallas's top farm team. If Dallas gets back in the playoff picture, they will bring him back up and expose him to waivers. If noone claims him, they will have some sort of peace pipe smoking deal with his teammates.
  25. Why should Avery be banned forever? He shouldnt have even been suspended. Of course Dallas should have never signed him to that ridiculous contract either. I'm a hater. good enough
