    Loved Zimmer. We are starting to get to the point where all the old timers in baseball will be gone. Lasorda, Ernie and Berra are about the last ones left.

    I may be way off base but this made my heart sink a little, because I was hoping for at least one guy who could start or play in the OF or C next season. This makes me re-rethink when they plan on being competitive. Am I wrong? I don't see why getting a pick would be any different than getting a high ceiling, high risk minor leaguer as part of a deal, they just have more control over who that guy is. I don't see it as having any relevance to when they're going to be competitive one way or the other. Maybe a year or two's difference in regards to impact on the big league club? We would be trading our ace, so I was hoping that in return we would get someone starting next season who could begin to fill that void, or at least filling the OF void.

    If another team isn't willing to give us something really nice for him, I wouldn't mind giving him a 2-3 year extension. Yes. I understand that Shark staying may be a lost cause so we have to move him, but do we have to move Hammel?

    I remember Red Sox fans not being as godawful to be around before they won in 2004. Maybe it's because I never see Cardinals fans, but Red Sox Nation (ugh) has surpassed their awfulness in my world. If the Cubs win a WS will our fan base be just as horrible and filled with band wagoners?

    The more I read about this, the more I think that the Rooftop owners had terrible attorneys when they signed that deal. The Cubs gave themselves several outs, and the approval from city government part trumps everything else. The rooftop guys are going to lose this. Interesting the last part he wrote about the loser of the arbitration hearings has to foot the bill. Quite a risk and the Cubs knew what they were doing there. They can afford it and it is a built in strong arm in their favor.
