    The problem is, the best strategy with a guy like Webb is to swing at the first good pitch you see, because it'll likely be the most hittable pitch in the AB. For the most part, the Cub hitters had a good approach to Webb, except Lee, who would always take the first-pitch strike (except when he singled on the first pitch in the 6th). Sure, it's not being patient, but as long as Webb is throwing strikes consistently, he's always trying to get ahead on the first pitch with a fastball. If it's hittable, they should be swinging at it.

    Maybe now for one inning the Cubs can get lucky enough so the hard hit balls aren't directly at someone.

    I'm curious how high the expectations for the average fan on this site are. As for me, I expect the Cubs to at least win once. A sweep would be disapointing. Anything more would be great, but hard to expect.

    I think Juan Cruz is going to be in the pen for the D'backs, and I don't see him among the match-ups. Not to be a PITA, but just for completeness. :)

    Doug Davis. The classic crap lefty that punks the Cubs. Pretty much any pitcher where the strategy to beat him is to be patient and wait for good pitches.

    Well, I mostly mean that if Buck is calling more Cub games this year, something wonderful has happened with the Cubs that hasn't happened in, oh...61 years or so.

    I'll take Chip over Joe I'll take Chip over Stockton. Dick Stockton is brutal. every time I hear Stockton's voice I think Bears and Lions for some reason I'll take him over Joe Buck for a season. Even if he is brutal. I just don't want to hear Joe Buck call a Cubs game, at all costs. If it were up to me, I wouldn't mind Joe Buck calling a few Cubs games yet this year.

    If the Cubs can beat Willis in Game 4, they win the series. No way they could lose both games at home with Prior and Wood on the mound.

    Cubs because they are divisional winner. These are the "seeds" 1. Diamondbacks 2. Phillies 3. Cubs 4. Diamondbacks So if it were the rockies / cubs the games in denver would be on Sunday the 14th, monday the 15th. to start. Then looks like an off day on the 16th and back at it on the 17th? Just trying to plan ahead lol since i'm close to Denver. The LCS's have a 2-2-1-1-1 Format. The lower seed will host games on 14th, 15th and 19th in the NLCS. No, the LCS's have a 2-3-2 format, like the World Series. Need I remind you of 2003, game 6?

    Red Sox over Angels 3-1 Yankees over Indians 3-1 Diamondbacks over Cubs 3-0 Phillies over Rockies 3-2 Yankees over Red Sox 4-2 Phillies over Diamondbacks 4-1 Yankees over Phillies 4-0 This is the scenario that I would hate the most, so I figure it's bound to happen.

    Not to be a skeptic, but... ...is this "verified" by someone hearing something on the SCORE and reporting it to a fansite forum? Is this being picked up and reported anywhere else yet?

    I would think a Geovany Soto sign would work better if you brought like 20 of them and passed them out to people in the section around you.

    I think Marquis and Pie are in for sure. I still think Hart has the edge over Marshall (and Ohman). I hope Lou does the right thing and take Ronny. He's been out-hitting Fontenot (and Theriot, heh) in September and he gives the Cubs an actual backup SS. But Lou seems to have Fontenot much higher on the PH depth chart than I would, so I don't know. I figure Pie should be in. I keep hoping Marquis is left off in favor of an additional lefty (Marshall/Ohman), and Lou seems to have taken a liking to Hart. If I had to guess the last 5 at this point, I'd probably go Marquis, Hart, Fontenot, Cedeno, Pie. If I got to pick the last 5, I'd go Marshall, Hart, Pie, Cedeno, Fontenot.

    Chris Young, Eric Byrnes, Stephen Drew, Conor Jackson, Augie Ojeda, Justin Upton, Chad Tracy, Chris Snyder... Yeah, I have no idea how they produce offense. Of course, now that I say that, it'll probably be Chris Young that kills the Cubs.

    According to Inside Edge A lot of fascinating information there, actually, regarding every aspect of the pitchers and hitters. Some preliminary observations: - The Cubs look to be a team full of players that are better than average (C+ or better), but nobody is great (A or A-), except for Lee, Ramirez, Ward (remember, only for hitting) and Marmol. - Soriano really needs some plate discipline to become a good hitter. - Hill scored the best in the rotation, and Marquis the worse, but everyone was between a B+ and a B- (even Marshall) - No Soto or Trachsel grades, likely due to a lack of PAs, although Fox is on there, so who knows. - Monroe, Pie and Blanco were the only current Cubs that finished below average.

    Hey, Murton and Soto on the team for sure is nice to know at least. So far we know: 1. Zambrano 2. Lilly 3. Hill 4. Dempster 5. Howry 6. Marmol 7. Wood 8. Eyre 9. Wuertz 10. Soriano 11. Lee 12. Ramirez 13. DeRosa 14. Theriot 15. Jones 16. Floyd 17. Murton 18. Kendall 19. Soto 20. Ward Got to figure at least one more, if not two more pitchers (Marquis/Hart/Marshall), and at least one backup infielder (Fontenot/Cedeno), and another backup OF (Pie/Monroe/Fuld?)

    Sure, Illinois has a shot. Certainly a better shot than I would've thought at the beginning of the year. Actually, the way they are playing right now, they have a shot in every game except the game at Ohio State.

    If Zambrano, Lilly, and Hill can all win their games this series, I like the Cubs chances.
