  1. Another thing I did not know is that every group is required to have at least one European team. So that Qatar-Tunisia-Ecuador dream is over. That also means if the US does get in a group with Qatar/Brazil/Argentina and doesn't get Poland/Serbia from pot 3, they are guaranteed the UEFA playoff from pot 4.
  2. Here's another simulator where you can pick the ping pong balls yourself, so you can see how the draw could play out line by line: https://draw.inker.one/#/wc/gs
  3. Give me Ghana, they're by far the worst team in this World Cup if New Zealand doesn't get in.
  4. Well that's encouraging...No thanks to Brazil-Serbia-Wales.
  5. For me, I want to get greedy, and think that the US could advance out of any group, so give me the toughest Pot 1 team in our group so we wouldn't see them in knockout play until the finals. Then put us in group B, so the first knockout game opponent would be from the Qatar group. Something like Brazil, South Korea, Ghana, with a group A of Qatar, Switzerland, Tunisia and CONCACAF/OFC.
  6. With 3 minutes to play, DeRozan had 29 points. He finished with 50.
  7. With Atlanta's win tonight, the 10 playoff teams in the East are set. 3 way tie for 8th, which is a big deal because the 9th/10th place teams will have to win 2 games to get the 8 seed.
  8. Technically, if we're looking to shoot the moon ,Scotland or Ukraine steals that last UEFA bid. EDIT: Also, on the flip side, Canada is pretty much screwed no matter what their draw is. Best case scenario is they get Group A with a weak CAF team in pot 3. Worst case scenario is like Brazil-Germany-Senegal.
  9. It's good for FIFA financially if the host country has a fighting chance to advance from the group stage, keeps the locals interested longer.
  10. On the other end of the draw, Canada slipped to pot 4, and is probably going to get a rough group as a result. Could be something like Brazil-Germany-Poland.
  11. The spirit of your point remains, but Poland is in Pot 3 too. I’m less worried about 2 UEFA teams than I am of drawing Poland and/or Wales instead of the more manageable teams in those pots. Outside of Qatar there isn’t a huge difference between drawing France or drawing Brazil. If you made me pick one non-Qatar team for the group I guess it’d be Spain? I mean, sign me up for Qatar-Serbia-Ghana, but outside of that unlikely dream scenario, Spain and Portugal seem the least scary of the seeds. Maybe England wouldn't be terrible. No thanks to Brazil, France, Belgium, Argentina for me. As for pot 3/4, as long as US can avoid Poland/Wales, the rest are the same. I am also fully expecting Qatar to magically get a draw where they could have a fighting chance to advance. Something like Switzerland/Tunisia/Costa Rica-New Zealand.
  12. Well, we know they won't get New Zealand, since they won't draw that playoff spot with a CONCACAF team. At least it can't be Germany again. Honestly, with the pots done as they are now, it's a lot less scary since they can only get 2 tough UEFA teams if they catch Wales in the draw. No more Germany/Portugal or Portugal/Poland. In fact, every World Cup the USA has been in since 1986, they've been in a group with two UEFA teams, and the only way that happens this year is if they catch Serbia or Wales in the draw.
  13. Pulisic had a hat trick like 3 days ago... And two were penalties… I mean, penalties are about 90% finishing.

  15. We didn’t even play bad. We had good chances early. Felt like once we gave up the 1st goal we were like meh and it turned into a glorified friendly. Yes, they thoroughly outplayed CR and still lost 2-0. The stadium atmosphere is tougher than Azteca these days. Which is why everyone knew going into this qualifying round that the US needed to have a bid sealed without needing a result here, and thankfully they did. Also why that needless throwaway loss in Panama was a terrible choice. The USMNT may look like they barely qualified this cycle, but they were the best team in xG/xGA for the entire cycle, and I believe they outplayed their opponent in every game.
  16. To whoever asked a while back if Costa Rica is still a tougher place to play than Panama...uhh, yes. Very much so.
  17. New Zealand clinches the OFC playoff spot by beating Solomon Islands 5-0. NZ won all 5 of their qualifying games this cycle (OFC had a ton of problems organizing a qualifying cycle).
  18. Peru wins to clinch the CONMEBOL playoff spot (eliminating Colombia and Chile), will play the winner of Australia/UAE.
  19. Cameroon scores a 124th minute goal to qualify for the World Cup on the away goals rule (it was even after 90 minutes, then Algeria scored in the 118th minute to take the lead, only to give it all away).
  20. Tunisia and Morocco qualify for the World Cup. Morocco is pot 3, Tunisia is Pot 3/4 opposite Canada pending their result tomorrow. The remaining scenarios:
  21. Pots are just about settled:
  22. Portugal and Poland are in the World Cup.
  23. Portugal gets a second, just about sealing it. Does the USMNT field an A team tomorrow anyway, just to make sure there isn't a let down?
  24. North Macedonia looks completely overmatched in this game with Portugal.
  25. Lasers win, flawless victory. Senegal to World Cup, Egypt out.
