  1. 2-4or better to improve on last year's record.
  2. Cubs finish 17-4 against the NL East since the All Star break.
  3. White Sox win, finally clinching a better record than the Cubs this season.
  4. Coming into today, the Cubs were 10-25 against the NL West, and 59-61 against everyone else.
  5. It amuses me that the Cubs' record was 15 games worse than the White Sox 9 days ago, and now they're just 7 games worse.
  6. Christopher Morel continues to be fun to watch.
  7. Henry Bushnell article on predictions for starters and roster for the World Cup: https://sports.yahoo.com/usmnt-world-cup-roster-starting-lineup-prediction-2022-000354137.html
  8. I always wanted to know what it was like to watch the NFL in the 50's, so I'm really looking forward to this Sunday.
  9. Yeah Football Outsiders has the team finishing 8-9 at this point. The Bears aren't good but this schedule is a joke. Yeah, as of right now, FO projects the NFC teams: 1. Philly 13-4 2. Tampa 11-6 3. GB 10-7 4. LA Rams 10-7 5. Vikings 10-7 6. SF 9-0 7. Dallas 9-8 8. Bears 8-9 9. Saints 8-9 10. Lions 8-9 11. Giants 8-9 12. Falcons 7-10 13. Seahawks 7-10 14. Panthers 7-10 15. Commanders 6-11 16. Cardinals 6-11 Effectively, the NFC has 2, maybe 3 really good teams (Philly, Tampa, GB), a glut of mediocre, and no really terrible teams. The Bears are firmly in the "certainly not a great team, but not bad" camp with SF-Dallas-NO-Detroit-NYG, maybe just good enough to look bad in a playoff game.
  10. Sox go 0-6 in their critical 6 game homestand to fall from challenging for the division lead to mathematically eliminated.
  11. Dolphins really kicked ass today. [tweet] [/tweet]
  12. Can't wait for next week's critical NFC playoff preview between the 3-0 Giants and the 2-1 Bears.
  13. [tweet] [/tweet] So you're saying there's a chance...
  14. Illinois shutout Chattanooga 31-0 to get to 3-1 on the year. Should be 4-0, and though Chattanooga is an FCS team, they're one of the better FCS teams, so it's still a pretty good win. Ten days until a game at Wisconsin that should actually be a decent measure of whether they'll be competitive in the division this year or not. Not that they should win, but keeping it competitive to the end would be a big difference from the past few years.
  15. Turns out a team that couldn't break .500 for 5 months is still about a .500 team, which isn't good enough to win even that division.
  16. I think blowing that game in Indiana contributed a ton to kill fan buzz. They should be 3-0 right now with an outside shot in the B1G West, but now they're already in a hole in conference after losing to one of the worst teams in it.
  17. "The Bears look like they think they can win this game." ...I mean, yes, it's the first quarter of a game against a team that lost by 20 last week, it's not like some invincible juggernaut against an 0-15 team.

    NFL Week 2

Winston has thrown more completions to the Bucs today than when he played there
  19. Roquan Smith mic'd up for the game:
  20. I'm in the same boat but hey if the Bears could somehow win this game, their next few games are against the Texans, Giants, Vikings, Commanders, Patriots and possibly Dak-less Cowboys. Maybe looking at 4-4 or 5-3 almost halfway through the season. Still just taking it game by game though and looking for improvements from Fields. And after the Cowboys, it's Dolphins, Lions, @Falcons, @Jets, Eagles, Bills, @Lions, and Vikings. The entire non-Bills schedule looks a whole lot less scary after week 1.
  21. Power rankings are out, and the general consensus is that the win last week was meaningless, since the weather contributed as much as anything, and the Bears are still definitely bottom quarter of the league. Football Outsiders weighted DVOA based on one week of data has the Bears performance as slightly better than the Packers week 1, which seems obvious, with the Bears being extremely good defensively, bad overall offensively and nearly the worst on special teams (there appears to be no "driving rainstorm" caveat for missing XP in their system). I don't expect the Bears to win this upcoming game, as I still don't expect them to really contend. However, if they do win this game, they could be looking at a fairly respectable record this season in a weak NFC, which could be fun.
  22. I always do that. I like to read everything being said prior to and during the game after the fact. I would have been there with everyone else with the comments on how horrible they looked in the first half. I'm digging this new coaching staff quite a bit. I hate tacky unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, but I certainly give the punter a pass for his. Glad to see clean football being taught in the locker room. Trying to explain that unsportsmanlike penalty to my wife was fun. "No, no, it's only okay if the Patriots do it." https://fanbuzz.com/nfl/snow-plow-game/
  23. I know the Bears aren't built to succeed this year and they'll probably finish last in the division, but I also think it would be the most Bears thing ever to somehow finish with 7-8 wins thanks to the easy schedule, not make the playoffs, and still not get a top 10 draft pick.
  24. SI predicts the outcome of very game for the 2022 NFL season, presumably while huffing glue: https://www.si.com/nfl/2022/09/01/nfl-preview-predicting-every-game-daily-cover
  25. Cubs now 18-10 since the ASB, 4th best record in baseball over that time (Dodgers, Mets and Cards better). Somehow passed the Rockies and even with the Marlins now. Quietly now the 10th best record in the NL.
