    Can't he accept the assignment and go right down? I wouldnt be surprised if he was ok with going down considering where his career is at currently. He has to clear waivers before he can accept the assignment. Sometimes, players are given the option to reject the assignment and become a FA if they aren't claimed, but I wouldn't be surprised if Bowden went down to the minors given the opportunity.

    Ghana v Lesotho playing a WCQ today, with Ghana at home up 4-0, the lights go out. May have to replay the game in its entirety if they can't fix it. No word yet from Ghana whether this is yet another one of their time-wasting techniques.

    DFA doesn't mean released, btw. If some team claims him off waivers, then sure. Otherwise, he could go to the minors.

    Why is Strasburg risky? Because he got Tommy John? Half the pitchers in the league have Tommy John. PS I would trade Starlin for Stanton. Dude's a legit beast, on pace for a 40 HR season with a .970 OPS and he's only 22. I wouldn't trade Castro for Strasburg because I'd prefer to just keep the younger player.

    I'd take Kershaw or Verlander over Strasburg, and I'm not even sure I'd take one of them, as pitchers are inherently more risk than hitters.

    I'd probably trade Castro for Ryan Zimmerman and Stephen Strasburg.

    No. No no no. Castro is Castro, but a prospect could develop to be anything! He could even be the next Castro!

    In the accompanying chat, Kevin Goldstein had this to say: I agree with everything Aaron says about Castro offensively. Defense, not so much. I predict he'll be a third baseman during the last half of this ten year period, and the stolen bases will dwindle. I thought that was interesting given the variety of opinions on his defensive development. And Sutcliffe picked Shark at #26. what the hell Shark was one of the biggest stretch picks of the event, but there were two "fan picks" of a reliever (Chapman) and a utility player (Steve Lombardozzi?) that make the Shark pick look defensible. I believe the fan was Jim Hendry.

    Today, ESPN did a "franchise player" draft, where they selected 30 "GMs" to draft a franchise player each. Castro was drafted 9th. Over the next 10 years, Castro is projected to have the 10th best WAR among all players. The nine ahead of him: Longoria, Kemp, Trout, Kershaw, Tulo, Verlander, Harper, Stanton, and McCutchen. If one of those 9 players isn't coming back, I'm not really interested in trading Castro.

    I know I'm in the vast minority, but I have to agree with Kyle on this. I wouldn't say that football has been "ruined", but instant replay has definitely changed how I view the game. Instead of being excited after a spectacular touchdown catch, now my first thought is whether or not it will be overturned. I don't want the same thing to happen in baseball, where a diving catch can't be celebrated because we have to wait for an answer to come down from the replay booth. I don't believe you aren't excited after a TD catch. Replay or not. If the umps do their jobs right, replays won't be necessary. Do you believe that we're less excited than we would be without the possibility of replay? Yes, because I get more excited when a call is right.

    I really like Agudelo, but I'm not sure how he'd fit up front with Jozy/Landon/Clint all up in there already.

    Last night was encouraging in every way except the back line, really (well, and the final score). I'm not sure how much of that Brazil squad was A-list, but the USMNT generated just as many good chances as them, especially after Clint subbed in.

    I know Banedon is the only one that agrees with me, but I think it is faster to dive head first, since you immediately gain 6'. However I don't think the risk of injury outweighs the extra .01 second you gain. Nice play by Barney. You also lose forward momentum by bending over and stopping your propulsion forward. At best it's a wash, at worst you're slowing yourself too much.

    Mather fails in his attempt to be out in every way possible (Strikeout, Flyout, Lineout, Pop out...twice).

    If I'm the Padres, I throw Castro nothing resembling a hittable pitch and take my chances with either Starlin getting himself out or let Mather beat them.
