  1. Not a huge fan of someone with Dolis's K/BB ratio in high leverage situations.
  2. They'll use Russell to face Votto and Bruce the next time around.
  3. A 50% success rate isn't ideal for these situations.
  4. In comes Dolis, who can't strike anybody out, when the Cubs really need a strikeout.
  5. Once again, Marmol's slider has been the least effective pitch of any Cub reliever so far this year.
  6. When was the last time Russell pitched? I'd like Russell to face Votto/Bruce.
  7. Maybe he was quoting Risky Business.
  8. 101 pitches for Dempster through 8. Harris-Votto-Phillips-Bruce in the 9th.
  9. The guy is a monster but I don't know much about him. Can he start? Are there concerns his hard throwing and the increased innnings would lead to injury? They were going to use him as a starter, but then Ryan Madson went down for the year, and since that caused them to shift Marshall to the closer spot, Dusty said they'd be able to make better use of Chapman as the lefty reliever in the pen than a starter.
  10. LaHair's HR/FB rate is in the stratosphere of the league along with Carlos Gonzalez, Josh Hamilton and Curtis Granderson hovering around 36%. Matt Kemp's HR/FB rate is 60%.
  11. Amusing (to me) stat: Ian Stewart has the second-lowest LD% among all Cub regulars (Soto) at 21.0%, but he's still above average in the category among all major league regulars.
  12. Yes, Dusty, using Aroldis Chapman as a setup guy is totally maximizing his value.
  13. He also actually has the highest LD% on the team.
  14. 15 minutes of fame? He's got 2000 major league PA with an OPS+ of 107. 15 quarters of fame?
  15. Yeah he looked a lot better than last year. Still not sure what the Cubs see in Lendys Castillo. They can't send Castillo down right now. Maine was arguably the best reliever on the team during his time up, though. I know they can't. I just don't see why they feel the need to stash him in the majors all year, as his stuff hasn't been very impressive. He's really young, and a future asset. This year is lost anyway, so they can afford to stash a young gamble in the back of the bullpen for three months.
  16. Len mentions how Soto is seeing the ball better just after he swings at a pitch about 2 feet out of the zone.
  17. Stewart just decides to try doing exactly what LaHair is doing. And it works! Line drive hit to center.
  18. His purpose is to be expendable when Brett Jackson is ready.
  19. The line drive rate on LaHair is very good.
  20. 3.1 PA per team game played to be Qualified. So, after 24 games, it's a 74.4 PA requirement, and LaHair has 74.
  21. Picked up Homer Bailey, because I have 5 injured players, even though CBS tells me I can only have three.
  22. Yeah he looked a lot better than last year. Still not sure what the Cubs see in Lendys Castillo. They can't send Castillo down right now. Maine was arguably the best reliever on the team during his time up, though.
  23. I will say though that LaHair's line drive % is both fantastic and potentially sustainable (at least as much as his strikeout rate).
  24. Your general point is right, but Howard won't be on the ballot. LaHair will end up around 7th. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2012/ballot.jsp
