  1. Well, this is not news I expected to come back to after leaving civilization for four days.
  2. VCU has left the Colonial to join the Atlantic 15. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/7932814/virginia-commonwealth-rams-leaving-colonial-atlantic-10
  3. I haven't seen the play, but a friend said it would have been a routine grounder if Barney wasn't playing up the middle. I know there have been a lot of plays in the Cubs favor, but when the opposing player hits away from the shift, it seems to be a scoring play. Personally, I have a hard time believing Molina pulls that ball that much, especially late in the game with runners on base. Anyway, based on in-game decisions by Sveum, I sure hope the front office can pick young talent better than they picked the manager. The shifts have saved the Cubs a lot more runs than they've cost them. Complain about all the outs freely given up, not the ones he's actually saved through efficient defense and baserunning.
  4. The bullpen is back to being the worst in baseball. By a decent margin, now.
  5. He just passed Kemp in wOBA. So now he's the second best hitter in baseball.
  6. My wife is a Sox fan.
  7. We've made a terrible mistake. Fortunately, following Sullivan on Twitter is a mistake easily remedied.
  8. I guess I don't find the Sox radio broadcast that terrible, but then again it may just be in comparison to their TV broadcast.
  9. No more worried than I was to bring Milton Bradley from Arlington to Wrigley. Or Marlon Byrd.

    Week 7

David Holland got his start pushed back to Saturday to give him some extra rest. So, Texas is using him in relief today. You know, so he gets extra rest. So, please remove any points I get from Holland's relief outing, because Texas is really stupid with their rotation.
  11. Yeah, eventually the Cubs are going to lose a game where Dempster starts.
  12. They don't do repeat matchups that I'm aware of. Except Illinois has played Maryland 8 billion times. Just in 2001, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2011...
  13. They don't do repeat matchups that I'm aware of. 2008 and 2009, Michigan St. and UNC played in the challenge. 06 and 07 for Ohio St. v. UNC. Illinois played Duke in 1999 and 2000, UNC in 2002 and 2003, Maryland in 2006 and 2007, Clemson in 2008 and 2009.

    Week 6

Yeah, it would, since the game yesterday counted.
  15. Do you think he grew up dreaming to play for the Mustangs? Who knows, but I can see why he might want to play for Larry Brown. It comes off like Head was always more into Jerrance Howard than Bruce Weber.
  16. Updated ZIPS projections for hitters based on the data so far: http://www.fangraphs.com/projections.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&type=uzips&team=0&players=0&sort=18,d Spit-take worthy.
  17. I assume it's happened a few times, but that has to be incredibly rare. It's happened 48 times since 1918, but none since 2007: BR
  18. Plus, the bullpen is no longer the worst in baseball, so it's kind of nice.
  19. Not including Maholm's start from today, the Cubs are 5th in baseball in starters' WAR (Phillies, Nationals, Marlins, Angels higher). 8th in starters' xFIP.
  20. Dolis's contact rate is absurd. Near 90%, and that's lowered as a result of two swinging strikes in one outing against the Dodgers Sunday.
  21. You're kidding, right? Please tell me you're playing a character or something. The role he's playing is called "realist" and it's typically played by someone who isn't still infatuated with a former ROY. The role is more "ignorant", as Soto has shown plenty of signs of getting better. It has nothing to do with infatuation and more to do with peripherals.
  22. In play, out(s)! Dolis just does not miss bats.
  23. Hey, the Cubs left a man on base for the first time today.
  24. Hudson has given up 3 hits and faced the minimum.
  25. Aside from the contact rate, and the K rate, it's a fantastic approach.
