  1. Elbert has thrown 21 pitches to three batters and got none of them out yet (Campana was caught stealing, though). EDIT: Which prompts a pitching change already. Looks like it's time for a cup of Coffey.
  2. Campana doubles his walk total for the season today.
  3. He got hit with a batted ball in the sixth and was struggling a bit afterwards.
  4. With both Dodger LH hitters coming up this inning and Russell not having pitched in a week, this is a good place to use him.
  5. I know I was looking forward to the Jerry Hairston/Joe Mather HR contest today.
  6. Soriano...walked? I'm expecting a seeing eye single from Stewart here in bizarro inning.
  7. Doesn't Billingsley have some crazy home/road splits for his career?
  8. Tony coaxes his third walk of the year. That can only help the walk rate.
  9. You want him to sacrifice the guy over for the pitcher to drive him in? Umm, no. I would like Geo to go opposite field in that situation and at least try and get him over. It opens up the squeeze possibility at the very least. So you wanted him to sacrifice the guy over for the pitcher to drive him in. Did I say bunt? Because purposely being out to move a runner over is totally different between bunting and full swinging.

  11. KEMP. LAHAIR. WHO SHALL EMERGE VICTORIOUS?!
  12. I'd like to note that I did actually predict LaHair would be the best hitter on the Cubs at about an .850 OPS, at a "poor man's Dunn" level. Before last year, the reason LaHair wasn't a real prospect was that he had the bad K rate but not the power to make up for it. It remains to be seen whether he can maintain some semblance of his crazy HR/FB rate (not Kemp crazy, but still miles better than the league), but he has some value in an all-or-nothing masher, especially when the Cubs aren't really counting on it for long term production.
  13. You think Sveum would put Russell as closer when he hasn't let him pitch in a week? The Cubs just haven't been in a situation where they needed outs against good lefty hitters...
  14. A little surprised Wood wasn't on the short list.
  15. With Youkilis, Longoria, Zimmerman and Sandoval on the shelf, the pickings are really slim at 3rd now.
  16. Wait'll he comes crashing back down to his rightful place as a .720 OPS scrub The most concerning thing about LaHair at this point is his nearly 33% K rate, which is Mark Reynolds/Adam Dunn/Pedro Alvarez bad, and follows from his past struggles through the years. His walk rate is decent, but lower than Reynolds/Dunn. If his production is going to end up being anything better than decent Adam Dunn-level, he's got to improve that, because that BABIP is going to go down eventually. EDIT: Also, his 65.9% contact rate on swings is among the worst in baseball among regulars (3rd ahead of Mark Reynolds and Yoenis Cespedes).
  17. Again, the situation could really use a strikeout, and Dolis isn't missing enough bats right now to be that guy.
  18. in what way is he the best option He reminds me of Carlos Marmol without a strikeout pitch.
  19. Fun fact: Soriano currently leads the team in UZR/150.
  20. Oh, that's why they pitched around LaHair. Soriano was removed for defensive purposes.
  21. LaHair also leads the team in walk rate.
