I changed my mind. Wood's biggest mistake that inning was that he was leaving his fastball up, which may have been a product of not pitching for three weeks. -
Curious, what would qualify as a doom and gloom person right now? Watching wood walk the leadoff hitter and give up 2 runs in the 8th is going to bring out a few negative thoughts in anybody. He got the leadoff hitter out on one pitch, actually. The only real mistake was just not putting Kemp on with first base open.

Or maybe this Matt Kemp guy is just pretty good right now and you have to just accept he'll get his at some point in the game.

You want him to sacrifice the guy over for the pitcher to drive him in? Umm, no. I would like Geo to go opposite field in that situation and at least try and get him over. It opens up the squeeze possibility at the very least. So you wanted him to sacrifice the guy over for the pitcher to drive him in. Did I say bunt? Because purposely being out to move a runner over is totally different between bunting and full swinging.

I'd like to note that I did actually predict LaHair would be the best hitter on the Cubs at about an .850 OPS, at a "poor man's Dunn" level. Before last year, the reason LaHair wasn't a real prospect was that he had the bad K rate but not the power to make up for it. It remains to be seen whether he can maintain some semblance of his crazy HR/FB rate (not Kemp crazy, but still miles better than the league), but he has some value in an all-or-nothing masher, especially when the Cubs aren't really counting on it for long term production.

With Youkilis, Longoria, Zimmerman and Sandoval on the shelf, the pickings are really slim at 3rd now.
