  1. Whatever, I tried to make sure things were fair and got jumped on. I'll just make my pick, unless we go by points and I draft 8th because my team got insanely unlucky. 1. Calvinball- Jorge Soler, OF, Cubs 2. NSBB - Byron Buxton, OF, Twins 3. Theocracy - Mike Zunino, C, Seattle 4. Sock it Thome (who are they now? Owls?) 8-14 5. Ron Washington's Dealers 9-13 6. Alamo Stealth 10-12 7. Mighty D-Block 11-11 (6512) 8. Eyes of Texas 11-11 (6860.5) 9. Lynx 12-11 (eliminated playoff wk1) 10. Harry's Budcrew 12-10 11. Scioscia's Tragic Illness 14-10 (eliminated playoff wk2) 12. Galesburg Hand Sanitizers 13-9 13. Kid Rodelo 14-9 (eliminated playoff wk1) 14. Tootielicious 16-10 (or whatever) (champs) 15. Quakers 16-9 (eliminated playoff finals) 16. Bazingas 17-6 (eliminated playoff wk2)
  2. Anyway, here's final standings reverse order: 1. Calvinball 5-17 2. NSBB 7-15 (5922) 3. Theocracy 7-15 (6258) 4. Quakers 16-9 (eliminated playoff finals) 16. Bazingas 17-6 (eliminated playoff wk2)
  3. Why are playoff teams at end? To punish a team because the rest if their division sucked? That's idiotic It's idiotic because it hurts you since you made the playoffs? Do you think you should draft ahead of Adam and Chuck because they had better records? yes. or just do it on points Now points is idiotic in a h2h league. Totally unfair that a playoff team should get to draft 3rd.

  5. 2012 Standings in reverse order, with fewer points the tiebreaker and playoff teams at the end: 1. Calvinball 5-17 2. NSBB 7-15 (5922) 3. Theocracy 7-15 (6258) 4. Sock it Thome (who are they now? Owls?) 8-14 5. Ron Washington's Dealers 9-13 6. Alamo Stealth 10-12 7. Mighty D-Block 11-11 (6512) 8. Eyes of Texas 11-11 (6860.5) 9. Harry's Budcrew 12-10 10. 6. There are currently 5 NHL teams that aren't on pace to reach 45 points for the season.
  7. I'd argue that the MVC's strength is right about even with the A-10's strength this year overall, although the A-10 has more good and bad teams, just on account of having more teams. Definitely a good step below the second tier of conferences, though (ACC, MWC, B12, P12, SEC). EDIT: According to log5 on Pomeroy's data, the chances that neither Creighton or Wichita State win the MVC tourney are about 27%.
  8. Forgot about them. Isnt the South in Lexington though? Lexington hosts the first two games (first and second rounds in old lingo, second and third rounds in current lame lingo). There was some debate if IU would get sent to Dayton or Lexington if they do get a No. 1 seed, though it seems like it would be Dayton. The South Regional is in Arlington, Texas. I prefer "Round of 64" and "Round of 32".
  9. I think I had Creighton as a lock, but agreed that neither one is really all that impressive. Creighton has neutral site wins over Wisconsin and Arizona State, and a road win at Cal, which is all pretty impressive and should push them ahead of most of the other bubble teams in discussion. Wichita State has a road win at VCU and neutral court win over Iowa. Not as impressive, and more borderline. The main concern for the bubble teams would be if neither of those teams won the conference tourney, though.
  10. Every single favorite won yesterday in the conference tourney schedule. Only one new tournament starts today: -- MVC (KP #21 Creighton is a 44.8% favorite)
  11. Cuba, Japan, Chinese Taipei, and the Netherlands advanced to round 2. Two of those teams will advance to the semifinals. If those two teams aren't Cuba and Japan it'd be an enormous upset.
  12. No conference favorites lost yesterday, since neither favorite had to play in the first round. Closest thing to an upset was Coastal Carolina getting blown out on their home floor to a very inferior team (18.1% chance of victory). Today, five other conference tourneys begin: -- Atlantic Sun (KP #130 Mercer is a 56.4% favorite) -- NEC (KP #128 Robert Morris is a 46.9% favorite) -- Patriot (KP #57 Bucknell is a 69.8% favorite) -- OVC (KP #38 Belmont is a 76.6% favorite) -- WCC (KP #4 Gonzaga is a 67.8% favorite) Also, lest I forget, since the Ivy League doesn't have a tournament, KP #81 Princeton is 1 game up in the loss column on KP #99 Harvard with 3 to play, all on the road. Odds are that both teams finish tied at 11-3, at which point they'd have a one game playoff at a neutral site.
  13. Didn't remember that, but it makes more sense coming from them than some dude on the Avs. The Avs are the only team that hasn't seen the Blackhawks first hand this year. Yeah, and now the teams play 3 times in the space of 2 weeks. And then never again this season.

  15. Nobody's arguing that the RPI isn't dumb and completely gameable. What is true about the RPI is it's what the committee actually uses in their comparison software.
  16. Two conference tournaments start tonight: - Big South (KP #171 Charleston Southern is a 31.6% favorite) - Horizon (KP #66 Valparaiso is a 60.4% favorite)
  17. The teams' profiles are fairly similar according to Pomeroy, but not as much in comparison to the RPI. Iowa's basically got to hope the committee chair's comments about always using Pomeroy and Sagarin actually mean something for the committee's selections.
  18. There is as much distance in the standings between the Hawks and third as there is in the East between first and last.
  19. @kenpomeroy D.J. Byrd having best day for a D.J. since D.J. from Full House got asked to the prom.
  20. Illinois really pisses me off when they play with such low energy. Sitting behind the 3 point line and jacking up 3's and just expecting things to go well without effort.
  21. This is the Blackhawks thread. There is an NHL thread. He also talks about the Blackhawks, and Detroit plays the Hawks Sunday.
  22. They evidently can't handle presses. IU's press pretty much destroyed them late in that game--and IU isn't a pressing team (of course, one wonders why the press wasn't used more that game, but I digress). They're a lot closer to a bubble team than many think right now. VCU is a quality team, though. This is more your forte than mine, but wins over Indiana and Gonzaga pretty much have to be trump cards, right? (Add to that Marquette and North Carolina.) But since beating Gonzaga the only team they've beaten worth a damn is Temple (6-5 since beating Gonzaga). They'll still probably make it, but they failed to win any of the four games they played against the quality A-10 teams, and took a terrible home loss to Charlotte in the process.
  23. Looks like people figured out team E is Indiana. As for the rest of them...

  25. Random assortment of top 16 teams...rank em! Note, the top seeds will likely come out of this group unless crazy sets in somewhere.
