  1. The more I read about Trestman, the happier I am about the hire. Although I am concerned that he never earned an NFL HC job after all the crazy success he had in the late 90s and early 2000s. I mean, the guy turned Rich Gannon into the MVP.

    Trestman

Just counting the days until the first "12 men on the field" joke.
  3. awesome. so we keep the good and get rid of the bad. Except for Toub.
  4. By the way, how we paying for the league this year?
  5. I have a bunch of space to take on points (> 1000), and a ton of exempt/injury shortened pitchers available for the right price.
  6. One stat comparison that pretty well sums up last night. Bulls: 59 rebounds. Hawks: 58 points.
  7. trading can begin on 1/16. give the new guy a week to get his bearings. i.e. parse 20 trade offers for 1st round picks
  8. At its basic level, Pomeroy's formula takes margin of victory into account, and Wisconsin has a habit of absolutely destroying bad teams. Coupled with their preseason projection based on playing time progression from last year (which put them in the top 10 initially), the overall ranking is going to be hard to adjust without Wisconsin being absolutely terrible this year in conference. Problem is, the formula works really well for the remainder of the non-Wisconsin crowd, so it's a difficult thing to tweak just to try to "fix" one outlier.
  9. Scot Skiles apparently decided it was taking too long for the Bucks to quit on him, so he quit on them. The Bucks decided rather than let him do it at the end of the year it'd be best if they just parted ways now.
  10. Check score prior to start of football game: 32-22 Cleveland. Check score at halftime of football game: 116-86 Bulls. That escalated quickly.
  11. Arizona losing 4 games in a terrible Pac 12 would drop them quickly. IU wins the Big Ten outright to get a 1 seed, with Michigan a 2 behind Louisville/Florida/Duke/Kansas. Butler is actually projected to lose 5 of their next 7 to start 2-5 in the A-10.
  12. Probably not enough to drop to 20, but I'd still kill to have him on the Bears.
  13. The projected bracket according to KP's rating (final projected record): Midwest Seed Team 1 Indiana (26-5) 16 Robert Morris (19-11) / Southern (22-8) 8 Colorado St. (23-8) 9 Wyoming (24-6) 4 Michigan St. (21-10) 13 Boise St. (21-9) 5 Cincinnati (23-8) 12 New Mexico (22-9) 2 Minnesota (25-6) 15 Iona (19-10) 7 San Diego St. (23-7) 10 St. Louis (22-8) 3 Kentucky (24-7) 14 Harvard (19-9) 6 Notre Dame (23-8) 11 Colorado (20-10) West 1 Florida (26-4) 16 Florida Gulf Coast (22-9) 8 Mississippi (23-8) 9 North Carolina St. (22-9) 4 Gonzaga (28-3) 13 Stephen F. Austin (25-3) 5 Wichita St. (26-4) 12 Iowa St. (20-11) 2 Kansas (27-4) 15 George Mason (19-11) 7 Nevada Las Vegas (23-8) 10 North Dakota St. (25-4) 3 VCU (26-5) 14 Denver (18-10) 6 Miami FL (21-9) 11 Middle Tennessee (25-6) East 1 Louisville (27-4) 16 Cal St Fullerton (18-12) / North Carolina Central (20-10) 8 Baylor (20-11) 9 Illinois (22-10) 4 Creighton (27-3) 13 Maryland (22-9) / Butler (22-9) 5 Wisconsin (20-11) 12 Akron (22-7) 2 Michigan (26-5) 15 Stony Brook (22-7) 7 Oregon (24-7) 10 Kansas St. (22-9) 3 Pittsburgh (24-7) 14 Weber State (23-5) 6 Missouri (23-8) 11 Georgetown (19-10) South 1 Duke (29-2) 16 NC Asheville (18-12) 8 UCLA (22-9) 9 Bucknell (25-5) 4 Arizona (26-4) 13 Iowa (19-12) / St. Mary's (22-8) 5 Oklahoma St. (22-8) 12 Brigham Young (22-9) 2 Syracuse (26-5) 15 Valparaiso (20-10) 7 Virginia (22-9) 10 North Carolina (19-12) 3 Ohio St. (22-8) 14 Davidson (21-8) 6 Belmont (24-5) 11 Memphis (24-7) Note: I didn't pay attention to any specific bracket rules, this is just the teams in order of rating. It's not worth the effort at this point to correctly balance the bracket by conference/site matchups. This obviously doesn't include today's results, either. Conference multi-bid breakdown: B1G - 8 ACC - 6 Big East - 6 MWC - 6 Big 12 - 5 Pac 12 - 4 SEC - 4 Atlantic 10 - 3 WCC - 3 MVC - 2 EDIT: And before anyone else says it, yes, I know KP overrates Wisconsin. EDIT 2: Last 4 out: Stanford, Temple, Oklahoma, St. Joseph's
  14. What a terrible call.
  15. Why Minnesota makes me more nervous than Ohio State did:
  16. Illinois actually committed more turnovers and fouls than OSU and only shot 29% from 3....and won by 20.
  17. I never said it wouldn't be justifiable.
  18. John Groce may hurt a ref this season... http://d3j5vwomefv46c.cloudfront.net/photos/large/713479671.jpg?key=25921936&Expires=1357423059&Key-Pair-Id=APKAIYVGSUJFNRFZBBTA&Signature=xHcg4r6duibEI0fQ76N7AXo0hK7O38CCrwp5Fte0hMOtw~uJ78uQxo22IRhzhacskxBwHfA67vDkVnkWK~1n0RJNv5TVrzPUiKo83eZM2cZuF2~lyuoWVHUWxHLFTdIotgQi-cIM1MIVfyeakQ8F7DYjU9dk9nUhq1qz92txlvc_
  19. Today's line for Duke's Quinn Cook: 0-11 FG, 0 PTS, 14 AST. Your move, Pressey.
  20. Signed 29yo RHP Edwin Jackson to 4 year, $52 million deal - 40
  21. If only someone had said something sooner, maybe a post above this.
  22. It would appear as if both this deal and the Villanueva deal are finalized, but last I knew the roster was at 39, and I'm not sure who may have been dropped to accommodate the two players.
  23. Barry Bonds Roger Clemens Mike Piazza Sammy Sosa Craig Biggio Jeff Bagwell Tim Raines Alan Trammell Edgar Martinez Dale Murphy Mark McGwire
  24. Norm Macdonald previews the 2013 PGA tour: http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/46460/pga-2013-the-year-in-preview No, seriously.
  25. I dunno, it's pretty damn hard for a middle tier school like Ole Miss to get 8-9 wins when you have to play Bama, LSU, Auburn, Arkansas, and then someone the likes of Flordia, Georgia, or South Carolona every single year. SEC schools have to schedule cupcake OOC games because nobody would ever win more than 8 games unless they were just insanely dominant. And there is the implicit assumption that Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida are automatically tougher than any other conference slate.
