  1. And before anyone else mentions it, the list is far from perfect, and no, no I would not trade Rizzo for Yadier Molina.
  2. As if on cue, Jonah Keri lists the 50 best players by trade value (well, 32-50, top 31 are tomorrow).
  3. Oklahoma and West Virginia play each other in a non-conference game today in the third place game of the Old Spice classic, meaning they could potentially play each other 5 times this season if things worked out that way.
  4. They would be ranked higher if they were eligible. They had 3 common opponents as ND and played them about the same as ND. They lack a signature win like Stanford. But I think OSU would most certainly be in the Title Game mix if they were eligible. In the only poll they're eligible for, they're 4th, and their computer average (if it counted) is 10th. They wouldn't be in the NC game.
  5. Also, I kind of wish OSU was eligible this season, just to see the crazy storm that would erupt when they were 7th or 8th in the rankings and undefeated.
  6. http://replygif.net/i/738 Yes yes. Try to figure out what I could possibly be typing genius You are many things, but typing genius doesn't appear to be one of them.
  7. Going by Sagarin's predictor coming into today, Alabama would be favored by 6 on a neutral field. I don't think today's results are going to influence that much (USC was 14th and Auburn was 81st, so the difference between Bama blowing them out at home and ND winning at USC by 9 is probably about the same). 6 on a neutral field is about right.
  8. LaHair signing a contract to play in Japan would beg to differ.
  9. The Maui Invitational winner has made the NCAA tournament 26 of 28 years, and hasn't missed the tournament since 1986.
  10. USC-Chaminade-Butler was close to worst scenario of competition in Maui, but it's not Illinois' fault that that other quality teams lost.
  11. Mississippi State has played two games in the Maui invitational, and has not only never led, but has only managed to be within 10 points for a total of 12 minutes between the two games (fell behind 8-0 and 15-4 in both games and never got closer after that). And they can't even play Chaminade next to feel better about themselves.
  12. Also, with this expansion, the divisions still won't make sense to split geographically east-west unless they split teams within a state (which they already did with Illinois before anyway).
  13. Eventually, the Big Ten will expand to 20 teams, two divisions of ten, so the "Ten" part can make sense again.
  14. It's just sports. It'll be okay.

    NFL Week 11

They have another game in four days, so it stood to reason they'd take it somewhat easy this week. Not this easy, but still...
  16. Wow, I thought you were joking at first. No, he overreacts that much all the time.
  17. Sagarin hadn't updated yet when MR had checked. Now it's updated with ND #1 in its BCS rating (just like it was last week), and Alabama #1 in its predictor rating.
  18. Wake Forest is an average 3-5 in the ACC? That doesn't bode well.
  19. Well Illinois won in a place with the toughest home court advantage in the country year in, year out, so they've got that going for them, even if Hawaii isn't very good.
  20. Cubs sign 28 year old C Dioner Navarro to a 1 year, $1.75 million contract that includes performance incentives that could push it to $2 million. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20121115&content_id=40302400&vkey=news_chc&c_id=chc Roster-o-meter: 36
  21. @BruceMiles2112: No surprise as #Cubs sign C Dioner Navarro. Theo indicated they would seek a veteran to push probable No. 1 catcher Welington Castillo
  22. This is the kind of thing that got Hendry the nickname "Retail." *sigh* Reminds me of the Reed Johnson signing last offseason.
  23. I read it more like the Anchorman "I'm not even mad, that's just amazing" quote. Keri has a long history of disdain for Loria, and even he can't believe that Loria continues to succeed in a world where everyone hates him and he just doesn't care.
  24. ESPN's MVP votes plus comments are the most hilarious and on-point difference between statistical analysis and old-school thinking that I've ever seen. http://i.imgur.com/ptYRE.png
  25. To me, it read as a "how broken is a system where Jeffrey Loria continues to make money hand over foot and nobody can do anything about it?" piece.
