  1. swept PSU and Minnesota, can't beat anyone else
  2. They play in Columbus. These were the games that mattered.
  3. And another 24 strikeouts in 117 PA last season, which were the only PA he had last season. I can more easily excuse an injury season for a player that really showed something special, but I see Vitters about the same as Szczur now, a serviceable filler that could break into the major league roster and fill a bench role possibly. 24 strikeouts in 117 PAs is knock now? It doesn't point towards an exceptionally good hit tool.

  5. What is something Vitters does particularly well, aside from "being about the right age for the league"?
  6. I can't think the sport is boring and repetitive without it being a macho thing? I'm just not sure what the difference between figure skating and any other winter olympic individual sport is, aside from the judging scores (which they've tried to get better at by having no top score and every "trick" have a base score before deductions). I get that the ice dancing is pretty lame since there are basically zero jumps, so it's all artistic flair, but figure skating is similar especially to any of the other trick based events in skiing and snowboarding. At the olympics, I prefer to watch the events in which the olympic event is definitely the biggest deal for the sport. With all the skiing and snowboarding trick events at the X-games, I actually prefer figure skating to the two.
  7. http://media.giphy.com/media/teiEDj7iKHYLC/giphy.gif That part where they did the same series of tricks that the last person did...that part is awesome. Yes, yes, your manhood is secure. Still a better watch than most of the events in the Olympics. Three notes about today's program: - None of the US skaters were expected to be anything other than long shots for medals, so for all of them to be in range makes the free skate worth watching. - With the new scoring rules, most of these events have been decided before the free skate even began since there was such a point difference between the skaters, so having the top 3 within a point of each other (in contrast, the Men's competition was over on the first day with one guy 5 points ahead of everyone and the top 2 20 points clear of the rest). - One of the gold medal favorites screwed up royally four times today, which is something I never saw in the Olympics before.
  8. Women's figure skating will be a good watch as well, with the top 3 women within a point of each other, and all 3 American women in the top 7 and within striking distance of a medal.
  9. Well, that'll make for some exciting hockey over the next 3 days.
  10. Sharp with a goal for Canada, tied 1-1 after 1.
  11. Yeah I noticed that too. I guess I just figured that playing on home soil would give them a boost. I'm just surprised that a team featuring Ovechkin and Malkin had so much trouble scoring.
  12. They grade on the A+++ to A- scale.
  13. So, Tuna's roster has been illegal for nearly a week now. Anyone let him know that his keeper deadline was long ago?
  14. Quarters: Sweden v Slovenia Finland v Russia US v Czech Republic Canada v Latvia
  15. Czechs hold on to win 5-3 after an empty netter and face the US next. Switzerland lost to Latvia 3-1, further reinforcing that group C was extra weak.
  16. Of course, the dilemma is that the better he does this year, the more likely he is to be locked up before FA, and the worse he does, the less desirable he is as a target.
  17. Also, Tuna still needs to make his keeper roster legal.
  18. No.
  19. Not true, US would play Canada in the semis if both won in the quarters. EDIT: Here is the order of overall standings: 1. Sweden, 9 pts 2. USA, 8 pts (+11) 3. Canada, 8 pts (+9) 4. Finland, 7 pts 5. Russia, 6 pts (+3) 6. Switzerland, 6 pts (+1) 7. Czech Republic, 3 pts (-1) 8. Slovenia, 3 pts (-5) 9. Austria, 3 pts (-8) 10. Slovakia, 1 pt 11. Latvia, 0 pts (-5) 12. Norway, 0 pts (-9) So, the quarters will go like so: 1. Sweden vs 8. Slovenia-9. Austria winner 4. Finland vs 5. Russia-12. Norway winner 2. USA vs 7. Czech Republic-10. Slovakia winner 3. Canada vs 6. Switzerland-11. Latvia winner If Canada had won in regulation, Canada would have been the 1, Sweden the 2, and USA the 3, with everything else remaining the same. As is, the US gets to face a real team in the quarters thanks to Slovakia playing like ass, then likely Canada in the semis, with whoever makes it out of Sweden/Finland/Russia in the other half of the bracket in the gold medal game.
  20. Are we setting up the automated keepers again this year where you need to check the players you keep? Or are we just trusting everyone to drop the players necessary? Looks like 4 teams aren't set up in a way that shows who they're keeping yet: NSBB, Tuna, STI and HBC.
  21. 1B Hosmer - exempt 2B Dozier - exempt SS Reyes - 275.25 OF Bruce - 507.75 OF Ellsbury - 453.00 SP Cobb - exempt SP Quintana - exempt SP Locke - exempt RP Jansen - exempt SP Bailey - 562.5 Total: 1798.5 Minors: C Zunino 1B Singleton 2B Schoop SS Paulino 3B Sano P Colome P Martinez P Meyer
  22. There are basically 8 legit teams made up of NHL-level pros (Russia, Sweden, Canada, US, Finland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Switzerland), so any of them not making the quarters would be an upset. That said, getting a top-2 finish in the group round sounds a lot better than playing, say, Canada/Finland in the quarters.
  23. US looking good for the bye to the quarters even if they lose to Russia right now. Overall standings: 1. US (+6) 2. Finland (+4) 3. Sweden (+2, 1st) 4. Russia (+3, 2nd) 5. Canada (+2, 2nd) 6. Switzerland (+1) 7. Latvia (-1) 8. Norway (-2, 3rd) 9. Slovenia (-3, 3rd) 10. Czech Republic (-2, 4th) 11. Austria (-4) 12. Slovakia (-6) I'd expect Latvia, Slovenia, and Austria to bring up the rear when things get all sorted out, and the top 3 spots will go to group winners, so the 2nd place team with the best differential will end up with the 4 spot.
  24. I'm fairly certain Brey is full of [expletive] considering the semester is 3-4 weeks old and Jackson wasn't even plain clothes on the bench and the game was at the JAC Yeah, internet speculation was that he was leaving ND. "Not registered for classes this semester" sounds like an academic issue.
  25. It's February 12th, and Syracuse has played 5 road games, the toughest of which was @St. John's. The others were @Virginia Tech, @BC, @Miami, and @Wake Forest. They've played the 80th toughest schedule in the nation.
