  1. Depressing article from Jonah Keri on what the next move for the runners up should be since they missed out on Tanaka: http://grantland.com/features/well-they-couldnt-all-have-him/
  2. He's ours. Jesus he's so [expletive] bad at this. Who? What? CT wants everyone to know how bored he is. Repeatedly.
  3. A huge percentage of the population doesn't believe in the inconsistencies of the event. However, people who do believe in the inconsistencies of the event believe they are a huge percentage of the population. Also, truthers don't like the term truther because it makes them sound as crazy as they actually are.
  4. I find it easier to believe that 40% of the Americans that read whatever truther magazine did the poll are truthers.
  5. I don't know if I'd say it isn't that important, but it's definitely after d-line. The good thing is that this draft has some really good defensive back depth, so there will be value in later rounds. I'd say in terms of absolute importance, it comes after both lines, offensive skill players, and corners for sure, and possibly linebackers also. Above special teams players, though, most definitely. I'd say the Bears are set at starting QB, RB, WRs, three OL, one LB, and one CB. Beyond that, they're not above help anywhere, and starting safety is pretty far down the list of important places to find players, and safeties aren't a difficult position to fill with draft depth. EDIT: Or shouldn't be, if you aren't the Bears recent draft history, but I don't think drafting them earlier is the solution.
  6. No safety is worth a top 15 pick in the NFL draft. The position simply isn't that important.
  7. It already did. It lasted a couple minutes.
  8. Cavs come back from down 24 (17 in the 4th!) to have a final possession down 3 with 2 seconds to go, and they commit a 5 second violation.
  9. Brett on Twitter, being all rational and stuff. Still, better than the blind bid system for Darvish.
  10. In fact, he was such a good sport that the refs decided to flag him for taunting! That was after for the choke sign to Harbaugh. Which is because Harbaugh told NFL teams not to draft him Your title as most blind, ignorant Seattle homer fan is not in jeopardy here, you're allowed to use the truth occasionally.
  11. Every time I think someone does something too indefensible from even the craziest homer fan, the homer fan just ramps up the crazy to match it.
  12. 2009, Saints-Colts.
  13. Hmm...do I root for Peyton Manning or Richard Sherman in two weeks?
  14. Especially considering Sherman was out of position and lucked out on a tip drill.
  15. "Truth" and "Beat Writer" don't belong in the same sentence. Cynicism from Wittenmeyer isn't any more true than the opposite.
  16. Not sure why, but that tweet made me imagine what kind of pitch Loria would make to Tanaka's group.
  17. I figure if you want to make sure you pitch a guy on a set schedule to see how his frame holds up under standard duress, Daytona is the last place you do that.
  18. Like I said before, I'd be pretty comfortable photocopying Soriano's contract and giving it to Tanaka. 8 years, 136 mil.
  19. Interesting. Things have been really quiet on the Wrigley renovation front. What if they have been secretly looking over other sites and have decided to go that way. ok ok unlikely, but what kind of enormous news could there really be that doesn't involve a player move and that would shock us. Ownership change Front office change Ballpark move Ballpark renovations already nearing completion in secret, Tunney suddenly declared missing TV deal New baseball video game comes out, giving Derwood a chance to live blog his character once again
  20. That's why I picked Edwards. He's going against 2 guys (Almora and Soler) who each had about a 1/2 season of attrition last year. I'm not going to assume Edwards is going to get hurt until he actually gets hurt. And I'm not going to count the chance he gets hurt against him when comparing him to 2 players who have been hurt. I'd probably vote Edwards next, but based on this poll it looks like Soler will be ranked 4th since his little bar is the next largest after Almora. I only voted Almora because all the experts say how polished and high his floor is. I trust the experts on this and think that's very important. Edwards has an extremely high ceiling, and an Ace in my personal opinion, but I don't think he's anywhere near as "safe" a prospect as Almora. That means little since nobody has any idea what Almora voters at 3 would pick for 4.
  21. I wonder how much of this is to get rid of the creepy guy(s) dressing up as a bear outside the stadium and pretending to be the defacto mascot. They hadn't been able to legally get rid of them since the Cubs didn't have an official mascot, but now...
  22. Ribery, Bale and Radamel Falcao. Messi voted Iniesta, Neymar and Xavi. EDIT: Dempsey voted Ronaldo, Messi and Zlatan.
  23. It's a vast improvement to Ronnie Woo Woo. EDIT: In fact, if they took Ronnie Woo Woo, put him in this getup, and made him stay quiet, this is the best thing to happen to the franchise this offseason.
  24. Being a cynic doesn't make you smarter or right either, as much as you try to insinuate. Yes, because it is somehow cynical to be disappointed in how much the Cubs are losing. No, because it is cynical to assume the worst in everything the Cubs are doing.
  25. I could have accepted Steve Olt.
