  1. I don't think Vitters is as much of a non-prospect as Law does, but I am skeptical about his AAA numbers being over just 100 PA. What is the success rate of high school draftees who spend 6 years in the minor league system?
  2. Vizcaino, Black and Zastryzny. Scott Frazier is probably a choice for me before some of the names already on the list, but doesn't have to be on there quite yet, IMO.
  3. To see how badly Manning played last night and know that Rex's performance was significantly worse than that is nauseating. I remember when the Bears led that game 7-0 and had the ball at midfield before the offense ever saw the field. That was the last good feeling I had about the game.
  4. Basically, they've lost 10 of the last 11 coin flips.
  5. Is it safe to say he has the lowest floor out of our top 10? Uhh...no?
  6. Northwestern is now alone in 4th in the Big Ten, just as everyone predicted.
  7. Their remaining away slate is going to make that difficult. Man City, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Man U. Also, despite now being all the way in 11th position, they're still just 2 points clear of relegation.

  9. No mention of him either in yesterday's chat or his Twitter feed of late.
  10. He basically said in his chat yesterday that until Vogelbach shows more power results, he's a non-starter as a prospect since his value is solely in his hitting. As for Olt, either his vision problems are fixed and he's in the majors or they're not and his career is over.
  11. Law's Cubs top 14 (he lists the top 10 and the next 4): 1. Baez 2. Bryant 3. Soler 4. Almora 5. Edwards 6. Alcantara 7. Johnson 8. Candelario 9. Corey Black 10. Vizcaino 11. Zastryzny 12. Eloy Jimenez 13. Scott Frazier 14. Tyler Skulina
  12. Chelsea fails to convert at home vs West Ham with 39(!) shots.
  13. Those are some unbelievably great storylines on 5 of the 8 series if it were to hold: Pens/Wings, Bruins/Habs, Leafs/Rangers, Hawks/Canucks, Blues/Kings Also, potential 2nd round matchups of Hawks/Blues and Pens/Leafs That isn't how the playoffs work anymore. Is that yahoo link even accurate? I don't see the "divisional matchup" aspect at play at all. No, it's not accurate.

  15. Kris Bryant will be the starting RF and the best hitter on the Cubs by the end of the year.
  16. Sommons? Assuming they meant Andrelton Simmons, but I just copied it directly out of the chat.
  17. From Fangraphs chat: Dan Szymborski: Right now, top 10 hitters, 25 and under, by future WAR in ZiPS: Trout, Harper, Machado, Baez, Polanco, Sommons, Buxton, Profar, Salvador Perez, Bogaerts
  18. Still think Sheffield is the best comp, with Baez better defensively and Sheffield better patience/contact.
  19. He spent just as many years as a Cub as he did a Brave.
  20. I went for the flying V line.
  21. Is his nickname 'Red'? If it wasn't, it is now.
  22. To me, the only other player with a reasonable argument for going here would be Vizcaino, and that only if you expect he's healthy.
  23. He's so good at hitting, that if he had a position he'd be in the discussion for top 4. What about the fact that his OPS was 25th in the Midwest League last year? I get the theory that his bat would place him very high if he actually played well at 1B and that he did actually destroy AZ and the NWL, but if it is all about the bat, shouldn't the lack of dominance last year be a little disappointing? Raw power #s were down this year, but he was hitting the ball well. BB/K ratio is fantastic and his walk rate and K rate are great for a player at that level, which translates well to higher levels.

  25. The problem is that our plan now is all-in on hoping that most of them at least hit the upper quarter of their ceilings. As promising as those guys are, it's not a sure thing, and if it doesn't work out, then where are we? We're leaning on them more than anyone would like, but if we even get 4, say, 3-4 win players out of Rizzo, Castro, Baez, Bryant, Soler, and Almora (not to mention the others that can pop their heads in like Vogelbach, Candelario, etc.), then we're in really good shape. You'd hope that Rizzo and Castro are already 2 of those guys. If 2013 Castro remains a thing going forward, that would REALLY suck. It's a possibility I'm not willing to entertain quite yet. Plus, having tons of well-regarded minor league assets has value beyond hoping they all pan out for the team at the major league level.
