Interestingly enough, the Cubs are currently structured in a way where Bryant could slide in at 3B or LF and isn't really taking a job from anyone.

Arizona GM Dave Stewart, on James Shields: "I think James is a throwback guy by the way he goes about his business and the innings he pitches," Stewart said. "I think the fact that Tony (La Russa) is here and that we have more baseball people – he probably sees us as a true baseball team vs. some of the other teams out here that are geared more toward analytics and those type of things. "Sometimes, there are concessions the player will make to be here. It's the case that he likes what we're doing with our organization from our end, all we can hope is that there will be concessions enough that he can be here."

That picture clearly shows him going to the ground, which means it's irrelevant whether he looks like he has it there, he has to maintain possession through to the ground.

Hey that's great, they can be good in the regular season and then get run in the playoffs early again. Also, enough with this game shape nonsense. If it takes you half a season of games to get in "game shape", maybe you just aren't very good. The guy has had 3 years out of the game (save about 2 weeks) and the team is cruising with him in the lineup. He's currently got about a league average PER despite basically being unable to hit anything the past week of games, and even with his personal offensive struggles the team's offense is top 5 in the league with him in the lineup. So he's not hurting anything but your sense of logic by being in there and doing what he's doing, despite tonight's unwatchable offensive display in the first half.

Yeah, he's really making the Bulls struggle while he works his way into regular game shape. It's almost as if they haven't won 13 of 15.

Love looking at the random guy who got one or two votes. Jacque Jones and Armando Benitez received 1 vote last year. JT Snow got 2. I mind it less in years where there aren't 20 deserving candidates. I mean, if there are 2 guys that are HOF worthy on the ballot? Sure, give a shout out to your favorite player or that guy who hit that big HR that one time. But when only 10 players are allowed votes on a ballot and 20 are HOF worthy, you're screwing up the process.

Apparently there were writers that left off guys they knew would get in, like Johnson and Pedro, so they could vote for guys at the bottom of the ballot. Matt Spiegel was ranting that they need to remove the 10 vote limitation, and while I really could give two [expletive] about the HoF, it sounds like a good idea to me. The percentages will still work out. That's what he did to get other worthy options more votes. Tranmere and Raines I think. Not Darin [expletive] Erstad.

It's the biggest BBWAA class since 1955. @JeffPassan 17 seconds ago Randy Johnson gets in at 97.1 percent. Pedro Martinez at 91.1 percent. John Smoltz at 82.9 percent and Craig Biggio at 82.7 percent.
