Remember when the Padres wouldn't trade with the Cubs because AJ Preller thought they were still in the playoff race? Well now the Padres are further from a playoff spot than any AL team.
The mentality I don't get is the view that the Cubs must not be trying to win if they don't go all in right now. The biggest impact the team can make right now is another starter, but beyond that where should they upgrade? SS can be dealt with internally and every other position has either a rookie option that's doing just fine and stands to improve or has Dexter Fowler who is doing well enough for now.
Team USA's 10th inning strategy: Put two fast runners on, and have the leadoff hitter sac bunt, putting 2-3-4 up with runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Canada walks the next hitter intentionally, and the 3 hitter hits a 2-run double to give the US a 6-4 lead in the 10th. Two more harmless outs and now Canada is up in the 10th with 2 on and 0 out.
Pan-Am gold medal game between USA and Canada tied after 9 innings, and the extra inning rules are weird: Each team starts the inning with whichever runners they want on 1st and 2nd with 0 outs, and can send any batter in the lineup up and start the batting order there.
