I'd like to see everybody play at least a half of the last 2 games. I don't want to see the injured guys getting 3-5 weeks off before the playoff game. I think it hurt the Bears last year. Good to see Vasher and Todd practiced. I'd like both to get some time this week (especially Johnson).

I picked up Adam Dunn, but I guess I have to trade him. Willing to make a blockbuster deal for Dunn, Crawford, or Webb.

FWIW, CBSsportsline fantasy analysis of DeRosa says that if he hits between Soriano and Lee, he'll bat .300 and score 100 times. That being said, CBS is often inaccurate.

yeah apparently "all-star caliber" means hitting .340 for the first two months of the year, thereby getting lots of votes since you've got the best batting average in the league, and then completely falling apart after that. In June of that year he had a .270 OPS (yes, OPS) but by then it was too late and everyone had voted for him. Also, it didn't hurt that shortstops in the NL were a joke. I am on record on this board of saying that Izturis' June of that year was the worst month a professional baseball player has ever had. I really have never seen anything like that from a player that go 90+ ABs in that month span.

I think so too. The Steelers did it at home without both their safeties. I would be disappointed if the game isn't easy. It may not be a blowout, but I think this game should be similar to the 2nd half of the Jets game. Run the ball 35 times. Playaction pass. Lots of slants, screens, and quickouts.

I just want to get a RH platoon partner for Jacque in CF and call the OF done. Yep. Heck, I'd still put Soriano in CF and get a guy like Craig Wilson to platoon in RF with Jones.

FWIW, cbssportsline just had a mock draft for 2007. And though it's a roto league, in a 12-team draft, I have 3 of their first round picks on my team, and 5 of the top 17.

BTW, I'm looking to upgrade my minor leaguers. I have ML experienced exempt players, who will go into 2007 as starters. Mark Teahan hit .318/.392/.582 after the All-Star break, is a 3B who may also become eligible in the OF if the Royals put Gordon in as their opening day 3B. Only his 2nd season, so still exempt after 2007. Ryan Shealy .294/.359/.457 in his first 300 ML ABs. Royals opening day 1B, in an improving lineup that should add Gordon, Butler, and the improving Teahan and DeJesus. Projected to hit .300, with 25 HRs and 90 RBIs next year. Kevin Kouzmanoff likely to be the Padres opening day 3B. Amazing minor league numbers, speak for themselves. 3 HRs in his first 56 ML ABs, 30 HR potential easy. Can be stashed in the minors and not count toward your keepers. Andy Marte will be the Indians opening day 3B. Hasn't put up great ML numbers, but tons of potential in an explosive offense. Also qualifies as a minor leaguer, though only 1 exemption year left. Zach Duke 215 IP last year. 3.65 ERA in the 2nd half, with just 24 BBs allowed, showing flashes of after a great rookie season. Joe Saunders likely spot in the Angels rotation. ERA not spectacular, but won 7 games, with 8 of 12 quality starts, and 1 more 5.2 IP with 0 ERs. K totals were above expected also.

I hated giving up Delmon, but I'm taking my chances that Wright won't lose his power stroke in the 2nd half again and be the #1 3B next year. I believe Holliday's 2006 was the height of his production potential. I believe Jered Weaver has a very shaky health outlook. And Webb gives me the top 2 pitchers in baseball.

They shouldn't rush Pie. Because, you know, rushing Patterson had such fantastic results. I think the situations have a chance to be quite different. Patterson had less than 1000 pro PA before his first callup. Patterson skipped high A ball. Patterson had only a partial season of AAA under his belt (and it was really bad) - and his numbers regressed as he got promoted. Patterson got the yoyo treatment, both in terms of callup, and usage. He sat the bench a lot as well. And I believe the biggest problem was that when he was drafted, they said "despite the fact that he's a fast CF, he's not a leadoff hitter, he's more of a middle of the order guy", and then they let silly old school managers try to turn him into a slappy leadoff hitter. Felix has well over 2000 pro PA. He's been in rookie ball, low A, high A, AA and AAA (with an extremely brief stop in short season ball). Felix's numbers improved at each level from low A to AA, and his AAA numbers improved as the season went along. Pie has had professional developmental people for 5 years, compared to Corey's 2.5. If the Cubs callup Pie, and hit him 7th everyday this season, with a couple rest days against really tough lefties and/or when he's in a funk, I don't think he will necessarily have teh same fate as Patterson. On top of that he's won three championships at the minor league level. What does that have to do with anything? I have no idea. Just wanted to throw it out there. Patterson won a championship in AA in 1 of his 2 full seasons in the minors. I believe Lansing was the runner up in his other full minor league season.

I assume you're talking about defensively with the above statement. Otherwise I'd rank Thomas ahead of Bags in overall value. I believe Bagwell should be in the HOF. And Frank. Blyleven should have been in a long time ago! Yes, I was talking about defense. I used to like watching how he'd cut across the pitcher's mound on bunts and get the guy at third base (against the Cardinals, of course). I actually think Bagwell in his prime was slightly better than Lee is now, defensively. I'd say range is about equal. Lee has a slightly better arm. Lee makes better stretches. Bags was slightly better picking the ball out of the dirt. Take away Derrek's 5 inch height advantage and he doesn't come close to Bagwell defensively.

I'm a firm believer that if a player is of HOF caliber, he should be in right away like in the NFL. That being said, going by baseball's standards.....Bagwell is probably a 3rd ballot type of guy.

Screw the Cubs if they trade anything for Willy Tavares.

Young for your league usually means you are toolsy. So, it's not ironic that the Cubs are the 2nd toolsiest....er, youngest farm system.

I don't know why people think Jacque won't repeat. Wrigley is a great place for LH hitters. He may not repeat his career power numbers, but he was a very patient hitter his last year in Minnesota. If he can get some of that back with a new hitting coach that stresses that type of thing, I'm sure he can put up similar numbers.

Eyre is a worse option to close than Dempster. Both walk way too many people. Dempster at least has the "done it before" argument on his side. I would not want Eyre closing.

He'd be stupid not to take it. No he wouldn't. He could still get more on the open market. He could have his choice of the team he wants to play for. He could get out of Canada. I wouldn't take the deal at this point. Worst case scenario, he gets severely injured and gets a 1-year deal for a ton of money and gets his shot as a FA after 2008.

Could be. I wanted Jennings....but not for that price.
