  1. Littlefield knew he was gone. He did the Morris thing to screw the Pirates.
  2. The Cubs don't really have any ML ready SP that the Orioles can get to replace Bedard. I don't see how this trade works without Hill, and I also don't see why either team would trade one for the other, unless the O's think Hill will sign with them when he becomes a FA. The O's must really like Felix Pie if they do this trade.
  3. Actually this would be a gain of 3 as Gallagher, Pie and Cedeno are on the 40 man They are losing 2.
  4. The thought of Pryor and Sam McGuffie in the backfield for Michigan makes my head spin. Hopefully McGuffie doesn't change his mind because of the coaching change, and Pryor does in fact decide to come to Michigan. I'm sure WVU was saying the same thing about a Pryor/Devine combo. I think it will come down to UM/OSU.
  5. Didn't read the thread, but now the Rodriguez is going to Michigan, Terrelle Pryor (#1 recruit in the nation) is strongly considering Michigan. It will be very interesting to see what happens when you bring the spread offense to the Big Ten, but do it with the talent that Michigan can bring in.
  6. Me either. Marquis and Marshall have to be considered question marks even with the good season Sean had. Dempster, Gallagher, Hart and the rest are even bigger ?s. I'd like a solid starter, leaving just 1 ? in the rotation.
  7. He did alright the couple times I seen him, I think the competition made him look better, he was a man among boys given he had more talent and experience than most in the League. It prob. was a confidence thing with him, bouncing from starter to reliever and then the high BB totals, he didn't look like a pitcher that was afraid when I seen him. He was alright when I saw him too. I wasn't super impressed, but I don't think I have been with any pitcher in the FL. I just figured he was a guy that had talent at one point, but got hurt. Basically, he was a man among boys, but not good enough to be a major leaguer or anything.
  8. I went to a few Frontier league games. He's decent. Nothing special due to age, but definitely worth the 0 risk shot. Best pitcher I've seen in the 3 years here.
  9. Why is it laughable that a prospect failed that people were excited about? The end result doesn't mean that player should have never been highly regarded in the first place. It just means they didn't work out or were a "bust" if you prefer. Just because Patterson, Choi and Hill didn't make it doesn't mean they didn't have the talent to do so. And if definitely doesn't mean people are stupid (or whatever adjective) for believing they could be great.
  10. First, yeah, I think you missed the sarcasm. Secondly, why can't prospects be compared to Hall of Famers? People with similar skill sets are always compared, as they should. Nobody is saying Pie is a lock for 2500 hits. Nobody is saying Colvin is a Hall of Famer. Just saying that both have the potential to be very good ML hitters. At one point, Lofton and Gwynn were being compared to other people. Nobody knew Gwynn would win several batting titles and be a 1st ballot HOF. When trying to improve your team by trading prospects your expectations of said prospects need to be realistic. If you can gain an all-star caliber player for a guy who's proven next to nothing, and has - realisticaly very little chance of becoming a star - in order to make your team World Series competitive....then you do it. Anyone who thinks this team, as presently constituted, can beat the powers of the AL is diluted. Well, now you're talking about a completely different subject. I have never disagreed with anything you posted.

  12. Pie at leadoff would be interesting. It's where he's hit most of his minor league career. I don't know that it would force Felix to look at more pitches or not. I'd probably rather keep Soriano leading off.
  13. I like the idea of Cameron, but if you trade Pie, who plays CF for 25 games? I don't think it's likely they put Fukudome there for the start and then move him back. Even with Pie, Marmol, Marshall (which is a decent deal), that's not enough if the Reds are offering Bailey and Hamilton as has been rumored.
  14. Never said I wanted DeJesus, just that KC would be more willing to give him up of their OFs. My reasoning is because they do have Joey Gathright who can play CF, put up nearly the same numbers, and is faster.
  15. Would have been up there with Keyshawn Johnson on the NFL draft coverage when everyone knew he was about to get cut.
  16. Peralta is probably most likely to be available in trade. But would be very expensive. Don't know how they would feel about trading in the division, but Cincinnati has Keppinger and the other Alex Gonzalez at SS. Kep's clearly ready. Gonzalez had a very solid year. I'd really like to see if the Dodgers would be interested in trading Rafael Furcal. I'm not really sure how the Cubs would matchup with them, though. Would probably have to be a 3-way trade. And speaking of which, here's my attempt! Cubs get: Furcal and Thomas Diamond Dodgers get: Blalock, Theriot, CJ Wilson Rangers get: Marshall, Ethier, Pie, Atkins
  17. I think it would be easier to get DeJesus than Teahen. They will have a decent 3-6, with Teahen, Guillen, Butler, and Gordon.
  18. I think this is a good deal for Arizona.
  19. I'd really like AJ Burnett, but I don't know if the Cubs have what it takes. I'd imagine they'd at least want a top prospect like Colvin.
  20. I wonder what the average NL Central reliever's salary is. Between Howry, Dempster, Wood, Eyre, Gagne, Riske, the Reds guys, Isringhausen, Lidge...it's gotta be up with any division in the game.
  21. I would rather keep Murton than Pie, too. However, we could find a lot better value for Pie/Gallagher that Brian freaking Roberts. For instance, Pie/Gallagher would be a real nice start on a Khalil Greene trade. I know PetCo is not a hitter friendly park, but why is everyone salivating at the prospect of having a guy who also put up a .322 OBP on the road last year? Acquiring Khalil Greene would mean that we would have close to an Alfonso Soriano quality hitter at shortstop. That would be a very, very good thing. And that's a good point. And the Cubs wouldn't have to pay Soriano money for that production. Basically you could have .320s OBP in the 8th spot with 20 steals. Or you could have .320s in the 8th spot with 20 HRs. And you get the best defensive SS in the NL.
  22. I'd like one more move. SS is clearly the weakest link, but I would settle for 1 more pitcher to make the staff better. A marginal-to-moderate pitching upgrade and a moderate gain at C and RF (Fukudome and Soto), should make this team the best in the NL. A league average SS, would probably come as close as 1 move could to making this team a 90-win team.

  24. What player do you think 2 of those guys could get the Cubs that could help the team get better? I'm not talking about trading just pitchers, but I think the guys that have been mentioned (Burnett, Greinke, Blanton) can all be had for any combination of Gallagher, Marshall, Hart, Veal, Holliman, Patterson, Murton, Cedeno, Petrick, etc.....all of whom are probably ML ready, but have not significant place on the Cubs roster.
