  1. Rose could be a mix of a lot of things. Kidd's court vision. Paul's ability to make his teammates better. Wade's ability to clear out and score if needed. Ultimately, I think he will be very similar to Deron Williams, but better. Pretty similar in size. He's probably got better vision than Williams and is quicker, but may be a slightly lesser shooter. He seriously is a player that can come right into the NBA and make a bad team legit. I would not be surprised to see him put up 20 ppg, 5 rebs, 10 asts right off the bat.
  2. Hardy is interesting there. His size is great, but it's not so much more than Sweed or Kelly to pick him over either of them, IMO. Sweed is faster. Kelly is as fast. Both have better hands and are better route runners. Hardy is probably the least polished of the 3 and I don't think he necessarily has any more upside than them.

    Week 2

Tim, there's really no way to win the battle of words. Regular season titles mean jack. Points titles mean jack. Abuck has the titles.
  4. No, the main "job" of a "leadoff hitter" is to score runs. No, it is to get on base. It's the job of every hitter to get on base first and foremost. If you don't get on base you don't score runs. Scoring runs is almost completely dependent on other players, with the HR being the exception.
  5. Harang has been good as usual to start the year. Hopefully, Dempster will continue to be better.
  6. I could have gone several ways with Houston. I was hoping Mendenhall or one of the top 2 CBs would fall. Kenny Phillips is a strong consideration here. But instead, I get a future LT for a franchise that has been looking for one since it existed. Texans pick Chris Williams, OT- Vanderbilt.
  7. Raiders surprised me. I don't think they can pass on one of the 2 DL on the board (Ellis, Gholston). Clady is probably an overdraft at #4 for a team without a complete desperate need (KC at 5 would not apply, because OL is by far their biggest need). If I'm the Raiders, I flip a coin on the DL-men and gamble that Williams or Baker will be there in the 2nd. That's true about Oakland. Fwiw, I would've taken Ellis over Clady despite KC needing OL badly, he was too much of a reach at #5. Me too, but that's because I think Ellis is going to be an elite DT right off the bat. I wouldn't fault KC for picking either way though.
  8. No, there's not much chance, if at all, Stewart will be there in the 2nd.

  10. People act like this is the only stupid decision the Cubs have made and everything will work itself out. This is a team starting Marquis over better options like Lieber, Marshall, and now Hill. This is a team who allowed their top prospect a grand total of 4 starts before allowing him 1 start for the next 8 games, and pulling him in a 3rd inning double switch in that 1 start. This is a team that wasted time on Jason Kendall when Soto was clearly a better option. This is a team that demoted a very effective Marshall for the pennant race experienced, Steve F Trachsel. This is a team that values the ABs of guys like Craig Monroe and Mike Fontenot over Matt Murton. And this is just under Lou. The organization as a whole has a history of completely screwing up its young players and then wondering why they never develop or have to be traded for mediocre stopgaps.
  11. A HR and 3 Ks in 10 ABs vs. Hamels. That has to be his best and worst ratios against any pitcher. And Soriano defies all statistical logic. His regular splits are bad enough, but how does he have 3 HRs vs. Hamels?
  12. I'm 100% fine with Reed Johnson getting starts against LHPs and tough righties. Sitting vs. Brandon Backe and being double switched out in the 3rd inning against Matt Morris does not qualify.
  13. Good point. Upton hit .221/.283/.364 in 140 ABs last year. Pie hit .215/.271/.333 in 177 last year. Those numbers aren't that much different. Their walk rates were identical (Felix 14 BBs, Upton 11). Pie had a slightly better strikeout ratio. The only major difference is Felix is 2 years older. Also, Upton's power advantage make it easier to absorb the Ks if you want to get picky.
  14. But Felix Pie needs to learn his lesson! Yeah, game winning hits are for veterans.
  15. At the very least he usually has good ABs. Has he even had a good one?
  16. Bad rule... Pat was talking about how a couple years ago at Wrigley someone caught the ball, ran three, or four steps, hit the wall, and dropped the ball. It was not called an out. You have to be able to take the ball out of your glove. I don't like the rule because you could essentially run across the field with the ball in glove and than drop it and have be a hit It's only to a certain extent. If a guy catches the ball at the wall and runs it into the IF before he drops it, it's gonna be an out. But yeah, it's a stupid rule.

    Week 2

    I'm being slaughtered.
  20. I think baseball should allow designated defenders too. Let a guy play defense, but have someone else hit for him. Daryle Ward could hit everyday for Theriot or Pie. Or a designated runner. If Pie doesn't start, he can run for anyone at any base at any time all game long. Both these ideas are as ridiculous as the designated hitter.
  21. I'm not noticing the difference in his stance. I'm not noticing the difference in his swing. His head is moving too much right now, but it's nothing new when he's struggling and pulling off of the ball. But he's always been a guy that has struggled with a good fastball above the belt and would chase a low and away breaking balls.
  22. A team with Ryne Sandberg as the manager has 15 errors in 2 games? I'd guess Peoria's gonna have some real fun "batting practices".
  23. Jason Marquis is a better hitter than Theriot.....I'm not being facetious either.
  24. Soto could easily be hitting like .700 with 5 HRs. He's hit the ball that well.
  25. Soriano Johnson Lee Ramirez Fukudome Derosa Soto Theriot Marquis
