  1. I really don't like Chandler Jones. He looks the part at nearly 6-5, 265lbs with tree limb arms, but I don't think he's very dynamic as a playmaker. Actually, i don't think he's really good football player as of today. He plays high and doesn't use his arms to his advantage. And to me, while he's a good athlete, he doesn't appear to be athletic enough to thrive just based on natural ability while he learns the technical side of the game (ala Jason Pierre-Paul).
  2. With Angelo I hated the insistence on going after second (or worse) tier veterans for starting gigs. But I like the idea of a veteran to challenge both tackles. The downside is he's almost a lock to start with the competition he'd be going up against. Don't underestimate how bad Adam Goldberg is. He has started several games the last 3 years at OG, LT and RT....and he's been below average at all of them, including being the 5th worst OG in pass protection in 2010 (when he started all 16 games). At best, he's the Kevin Shaffer signing redux. I'd rather let J'Marcus Webb play another year and hope again that something clicks and he gets better than to start a 32-year old with no future and a less than mediocre past get meaningful snaps.
  3. Thompson may be BPA here. But I don't know about back-to-back years of DTs in the 2nd round. He's more of a NT though and would put Paea at the 3-technique to backup Melton, which I think is a good thing. I do like the dynamic element that Robinson would bring (Bears never have CBs with elite speed), but CBs can be had later generally. However, do have to take into account that CB may have to wait til the 4th with WR being the 3rd round pick. I'd probably go Thompson here and take my chances on a CB falling. The Bears do have 5 experienced guys on the roster, though none has the potential to be much more than adequate.
  4. For the Bears, I don't really like the WRs on the board (I think I'd wait til the 3rd and hope Marvin Jones is there). The OTs would all be reaches too at this point. I don't know if anyone has taken Peter Konz, but he would be a nice pick if he's there. Other than that, I'd probably reach for a CB, I guess. I like Casey Hayward, Josh Robinson, and Trumaine Johnson is interesting if he doesn't turn into a FS.
  5. Chargers need OL help and could use some CB depth. Going with the former as CB depth is better. Chargers select Kevin Zeitler, OG Wisconsin
  6. YOu did. Houston at #26.
  7. Malik Story was indeed the [expletive].
  8. Won't be 100 loss bad if they keep even part of their pitching to or past the trade deadline. But I don't see them winning more than 75. I picked 66-69.
  9. Where's the option for May 2011?
  10. 1. Ohio State 2. Indiana 3. Wisconsin (isn't it a law they finish top 4) 4. Michigan 5. Michigan St 6. Purdue 7. Illinois 8. Iowa 9. Minnesota 10. Northwestern 11. Nebraska 12. Penn State
  11. Yes, but Vitters had a day off and has exactly 1 single in every game. Rizzo has 2 multi-hit games out of 4. Jackson has had multi-hit games in 3 of 4 so far, with a walk in 3 of 4 games, and an XBH in 3 of 4
  12. Looking at the roster, the Bears return 20 of their 22 starters who started the opening game last year. The 2 that are replaced are Chris Harris with Chris Conte and Roy Williams with Brandon Marshall. So, I think the Bears will go into the draft looking for depth, starting with rotational players first (i.e. players at not positions where 1 player plays every down unless injured: QB, OL, LB). I don't know that they go DT early, because they did just draft Paea early, and with Toeina they are really just looking for a 4th DT. And I'd imagine if all goes well this year and in the draft, they can get away by moving Peppers, Wootton and/or Idonije inside on passing downs to get extra pass rush. I don't think those CBs should stop the Bears from going CB early. They are both on 1 year deals, Jennings is on an easy-to-cut 2 year deal. Tillman will be 32 going into 2013, not drafting CB would force their hand next draft. I think DE, WR, and CB will still be the first 3 picks (my first 3 picks all off-season) with DT, LB, OL and either SS or TE to round out the draft. If Barron is there at 19 do you do it? Kirkpatrick, wright , perry, merciles, which one do you go with if all four are there? I'm probably the wrong person to ask about Barron, because I'm not a big fan of his. I don't think you take a S anywhere in the 1st round unless it's Eric Berry or Earl Thomas who have elite ability and some CB-like coverage skills. Barron doesn't fit in this group. As for those 4, it would be a tough decision. Mercilus would be out because I think Perry is a better talent. After that, I'd probably eliminate Wright because the Bears already have an elite talent at WR, but they don't at CB. They do at DE (Peppers), but he's over 30. So, between Perry and Kirkpatrick...gun to my head, I'd probably take Kirkpatrick. CB is deeper than DE in this draft, but a physical 6'2" CB with upside is hard to find. He's very intriguing with Megatron in the division.

  14. I think what happens in these situations is that a player feels that his current team should give him a multi-year deal, so when they don't offer the player "sticks it to them" by taking a similar deal that's being offered by a different team. Basically, 1-year 2 Mil from a team that you outperformed your contract for is seen differently than 1-year, 2 Mil deal from a team you never played for. Players feel they should get rewarded for what they've done rather than what they will do.
  15. Dew, I sent you a PM yesterday. I know I did for sure this time. Anyway, sorry for the delay. Jags select Mohammed Sanu, WR Rutgers
  16. Jackson with an IF popout and a K. Rizzo with a 3-pitch K and a 1 pitch flyout. McNutt removed after 3.2 IP, 3 hits, 3 BBs, 3 Ks, 0 ERs.
  17. Is there really nobody better to get AA at bats than soon-to-be 27 year old James Adduci?
  18. He was once one of the top OGs in the game. He's been maybe average the last couple years. That doesn't include 2011, because he missed the entire season. He actually just turned 32 yesterday, so best case scenario is he got his back straightened up with the surgery last offseason and he can give you a solid year. Interesting is that he's a LG. There have been rumors that have been squashed a few times that Chris Williams would be moving back to LT to compete with Webb. Makes me wonder if that may be true if they sign Steinbach. The Bears have almost literally looked at no OTs this offseason.
  19. First game is vs Manning. Bears vs Broncos Bears vs Redskins Bears @ NYG Bears @ Browns Should be an interesting pre-season. Might hear Jay Cutler's name 2 or 3 times this preseason. Broncos game will be all about Peyton. Skins game all about RG3. Giants game all about defending SB MVP, Eli. Cutler won't play vs. Cleveland, most likely. I'd imagine the Broncos and Giants games would be nationally televised.
  20. Staley is a good T so I assume Davis is the odd man out at T? Rachal sucks so maybe he goes to G, Staley to RT, and Martin at LT? Davis hasn't been very good, but he's young. I was wondering this too. I can't see SF passing him up this late in the 1st (Harbaugh connection) but was wondering what about Davis, who is only 2 years removed from a top 10 pick.
  21. I've seen Wright, Hill for WR, nearly every first round DE, OT Martin and CB Gilmore/Kirkpatrick being mocked to the Bears. It's going to be interesting what they do with that pick. I think if the Bears want Stephen Hill, they will trade down...especially if Wright is on the board at 19. Based on the things they have said and the players they have shown interest in, I think the Bears would like an extra pick (lost from Marshall trade) again. They appear to want/need a WR, DE, CB, have been looking at mid-round LBs, and if Okoye doesn't re-sign, they'll need a DT in the mid-rounds at worst.
  22. Wright is an elite WR minus the height. I've seen him compared to Steve Smith based on his ball skills with his ability and willingness to go get the ball in traffic and in the middle of the field. I've seen him compared to Mike Wallace because of his deep speed and ability to get up to speed quickly. I don't really like any of those comparisons, but he reminds me a lot of Wallace's teammate Antonio Brown...but more polished. He's very good at getting to the open spot and has really good hands. But he can improve as a route runner. He's good now, but could be a little sharper when making cuts. Going to be very dangerous after the catch. Honestly... to me, Wright = Percy Harvin (minus the migraines). What I like about Wright is that he's just not a downfield threat/speedster (like Stephen Hill), but he can be just as deadly at the line as scrimmage. He also WILL try to run you over if you're in his way or fight for the ball. A WR who "could" do it all as a #2 WR. He would compliment Marshall so well IMO (better than Hill). This is coming from a guy who didn't want Wright at first (for awhile) as I thought he was just a better version of Hester/Knox, but after reading/watch highlights... I'm seeing more of Percy Harvin/Steve Smith. Even though Harvin is fast(er?), I think Wright is a better deep threat. Harvin really has never had to run the deep routes as he was a RB in college and played beside 1-trick ponies like former Bears, Berrian and Aromashodu. Wright also has better body control and uses his body to shield defenders better down the field. That's where I think the Steve Smith comparisons come in. WRs under 6' aren't typically good deep threats because defenders who are the same size or bigger can outfight them for the ball. Smith is the rare exception because of his ability to make a play on the ball and shielding with his body.
  23. I would throw in CB too. If I had to guess, I would say that if any of Coples, DeCastro, or Kirkpatrick fall to 19, the Bears would jump all over them/him. Otherwise, I think it's between Kendall Wright, Nick Perry, and Whitney Mercilus for the pick. I really don't think the Bears are very interested in Jon Martin or Mike Adams. Neither seem to be Tice guys.
  24. Wright is an elite WR minus the height. 25. Yes, but you want him 2-3 years ago when he was 2-3 years younger. He has a big contract, he has a bad attitude, a 3rd round pick is more valuable than he is right now based on salary and future potential.
