  1. If they continue to win 1 of every 5 it could be. They are only 1.5 games out of the bottom 3.
  2. On a recent Simmons podcast, his guest (Cousin Sal Iacono) said the NFL had phased them out, but I have no idea why. It flies in the face of the NFL's mission to run every single day of the sports year. I've read that the Saturday games were not good for ratings so they got phased out. I would guess that NFL games got ratings no matter when they are played, especially when there are 9-11 games being played at noon on Sunday. But they have playoff games in the first 2 rounds on Saturdays.
  3. Yeah, it's probably the difference between being 1-and-done or getting to the NFC Championship game. As for Carolina, I'm guessing all those teams (and me as a fan of one of them) are quietly rooting for the Panthers. Carolina doesn't have a distinct home field advantage and "has never been there before", so I think teams will think they are beatable. Much better scenario than going to NO with them coming off a bye.
  4. Wait, Brian Boitano is not openly gay? I don't think he is gay at all. Contrary to popular belief. He just came out today, just to prove you wrong, I'm sure. He's not gay. His boyfriend is though. *coulda sworn he's denied it in the past, but I guess he's never confirmed or denied it til now apparently.
  5. The defense needs an early turnover, but without bringing it back to the end zone since they will just go right back out there. LOL. It's funny because the old D used to turn it up a notch after they scored. Always felt like they would score again. But now it's like, "good, that'll make up for the TD they're about to give up".
  6. Briggs can make a big difference. The defense is allowing like 90 more yards per game and 1.5 ypc more without him. The combo of Briggs and Ratliff at 100% can make a huge difference going forward. But this week, I'm not seeing it. Like was said, there's no way he can play every snap against a fast paced offense like this after 2 months off. And the Bears D of old struggled against McCoy also, IIRC. They've always had trouble with guys that can cut quickly like McCoy. The best hope for the D is the offense can score and have the Eagles playing from behind and abandoning the run somewhat.
  7. That rotation sucks. And Vizcaino is not going to be in the rotation, now or ever.
  8. I wouldn't be so sure about the Packers. Rodgers would give them a boost if he plays, but the Steelers have been playing decent football recently. The Packers defense has been terrible lately (5.54 yards per carry the last 8 weeks) and I wouldn't pencil in a win for any team starting a QB that was picked up off the waiver wire during the season.
  9. Agreed. I always looked forward to Saturday games after the college football season was over.
  10. I've read some speculation (from people NOT in the know) that the Eagles may take it easy if the Cowboys beat the Redskins. The main concern seems to be McCoy. Many around the Eagles (fans, writers) feel that if the Cowboys win, Shady may only get 10-15 touches and sit most, if not all, of the 2nd half. They also think the Bears may see a very vanilla offense/gameplan as they won't want to give the Cowboys too much more to gameplan for. Even though they did play already this year, that was when Vick was technically the starter still. He was hurt and missed the game. But Foles got hurt during the game and Matt Barkley was their leading passer.
  11. maybe by his standards. by compared to matt flynn standards (or really the nfl in general) he's been great against them. and that's against much much much better defenses. The pass D hasn't been that bad this year. About what its been for the last few years. Point is, I don't see Rodgers going 350, 4 TDs against the Bears in the air. It's not like going from Tebow to Peyton Manning. The Bears problem beating them in the past has been the lack of offense. I like the Bears chances this year, healthy Rodgers or not. I'd say it's significantly worse... the pass rush is weak and we aren't getting as many takeaways as a result. Bears Pass Defense DVOA Rank 2013 - 14 2012 - 1 2011 - 8 2010 - 5 2009 -22 (the urlacher-less year and pre-peppers) 2008 - 9 I hate to go all Goony, but 3 "muchs" wasn't really accurate either. Rodgers isn't going to do significantly more damage this year than he has done the last 3-4 years vs. the Bears D. And I think the decline in the Bears pass D is partially combatted by the Packers missing the weapons that I named earlier.

  13. Ya know, Rodgers doesn't really have a huge history of torching the Bears. Finley, Jennings, Cobb, and Driver are the guys that have destroyed the Bears in the middle of the field in the recent history against them. Plus, maybe Rodgers keeps them from going to the run as much, which plays into the Bears hands.
  14. and for Bears The gist I got from that is that its more likely Flynn starts Sunday not Rodgers. Wouldnt he be taking first team reps if he was aiming to start? That's why he said it's great news for the Bears. I read that wrong, my bad. Lets hope the Packers lose and the Bears win this weekend so we don't have to worry about Rodgers at Soldier Field for a spot in the playoffs. I don't understand how you can read that wrong. What was so confusing about it? #gettinmygoonyon
  15. Barry Hinson is an absolute gem with so many great sounds bites. While he called out a few of players last night, he's actually one of the really good guys in college basketball. Yeah, he's a good dude. My nephew goes to SIU and he's constantly trying to get him to drop his football scholarship for a basketball one. Loves my nephew. He practices with the basketball team when not in football season. Of course, he hurt his knee on the basketball court, so I don't think he's allowed to practice with them anymore.
  16. See, Cutler is right in throwing to only Marshall.
  17. Wait, Brian Boitano is not openly gay? I don't think he is gay at all. Contrary to popular belief.
  18. That's how obvious HoFers don't get unanimous votes. I hate that [expletive]. I understand why voters do it, but I think it's stupid. No offense. I've never seen a writer use that explanation for not voting somebody. It hasn't really been an issue because up until last year it was rare there were 10 hall of famers on a single ballot. As goony said, guys get left out because argle bargle if Mickey Mantle wasn't unanimous ain't nobody gon be unanimous Yeah, I put those things together in my head. The "he'll already have enough votes without mine" and "ain't nobody unanimous" people are both in the same class to me.
  19. We've reached the point of the season where "jumpball to Alshon" has to be an actually designed play whenever the Bears get inside the opponents 35. Too narrow of a use IMO. If Jay can get it to the end zone, let it rip. Not really. If it's incomplete at the 35, at least you're in FG range. If you're not in FG range, it's just a wasted down if not completed (unless it's 3rd and really long like it was Sunday). Plus, to throw it any further than 40-45 yards in the air, you really need good pass protection for a decent amount of time.

  23. Even for seeding? Well yeah, but I don't know if teams really care about seeding, especially when it's not for #1.
  24. If Detroit loses and Green Bay and Dallas win early on Sunday, this game means nothing for either team.
