  1. They all bring comp picks. It depends on who the Bears sign. Cutler would definitely give the Bears a pick after the 3rd. But comp picks are generally decided by what you lose vs. what you bring in. So, if the Bears sign no FAs or only players that get cut, they'll get a comp pick from Cutler down to Steltz, McManis, and Britton. But odds are they will at least sign players of that level so odds are they won't get comps for those guys at the back of the roster.
  2. For veteran minimum? You likely need a slew of LB help next season, and he's another body to throw in the pile. The young guys look terrible and could use some veterans pushing them. I'd rather spend the vet minimum money on someone else. Someone that could conceivably play 16 games.
  3. God help the next coach there. Could have said that every other offseason for the last 15 years.
  4. I don't know why you bring DJ back. YOu know he's going to miss about 1/2 the season. He's been hurt for most of the last 3 years and is over 30.
  5. Schwartz's deal was backloaded and he's owed like 12Mil over the next 2 years. He may be back due to $$$ ala Lovie a couple years ago.
  6. No real reason to fire Chud, other than the fact that this FO didn't hire him. The FO only gave him 5 draft picks this year, 3 of which were pick 175 or later. Traded away his RB. Gave him Brandon Weeden as a QB. Yet he still managed to have the #1 WR in the league, despite him missing 2 games. Granted, they lost a lot of games in the 4th quarter (and 7 straight overall), but Chud is a good coach. He'll be hired as an OC somewhere this offseason and then be a head coach again in the very near future.
  7. Probably would have to be a cut.
  8. Problem is, you won't know if you can get decent picks for him unless you franchise/sign him first. Nobody is going to say, "Hey, if you franchise Cutler we'll give you a 1st and 3rd for him", when they can just sign Cutler if he walks.
  9. I'd probably bring Tillman and Jennings back. Tillman shouldn't require a ton of money and maybe only 1 guaranteed year, and seems like a guy that would like to stay in Chicago, where he has his foundation, family, and is one of the best people in the game. Jennings would require more. Honestly with Briggs, I'd see where his head is at. If he wants to stay on a rebuilding defense, I'd keep him and let him play out his contract. But if he doesn't want to be here, let him go.
  10. Mills is fine. He was a 5th round rookie. He was considered pretty raw coming out. I thought it would take his 3rd year til he became a starter, but he got forced in there early and did OK for what he was (5th round from a small school). I don't see why he can't get better and be an asset for this OL. As for Briggs, yeah I could see him gone. He has been weird all year. He didn't really push to get back on the field and then when he did he had some weird comments about his future and not wanting to get hurt and mess up his career. If you are cutting Peppers (should) and not bringing back Tillman, you might as well get rid of Briggs too.
  11. I think you can get acceptable DE and S play without having to sign the likely 2 highest paid FAs. Martellus has already said he will recruit his brother, Michael to Chicago. He'd be cheaper at DE. I think you can use the extra money saved at DE and S to go after a better FA LB than DJ Williams or a better DT or a better CB than Bowman. The draft isn't bad though. Murphy's a slight reach at 14, though.
  12. Hub the other day was saying it was possible to sign Jay long term and structure the contract so its only like a $13-14m cap hit the first few years. If that's the case, that's only like $4 mil more than last year, it might make sense to lock up the position for the next few years and then re-evaluate when the cap hit goes up. I don't see any reason why the Bears wouldn't be sold on Cutler being an above average QB for the next several years....he's done more than enough to prove that IMO. The only area where there is doubt for the Bears FO is whether they can get the same or similar production at a much lower cost. It's a huge gamble to put the QB position into doubt when there are so many questions on defense. My point is if this was a "prove it" year for Cutler, he didn't really prove it. Of course, I'm pretty sure if he didn't get hurt, he would have proved it without a shadow of a doubt. And while 13-14M cap hit for a few years would be excellent, 16M for 1 year (franchise tag) is more ideal if the team isn't sold that Cutler is worth the money. Basically, my bottom line is, I'd have no problem letting Cutler walk if Josh McCown was 24 instead of 34. Not that I think McCown or any draftee is going to be as good as Cutler, but the money difference wouldn't be worth it. So, if the Bears can get a more talented, younger version of McCown in the draft this year and the same thing happens (Cutler gets hurt and backup has to play a few games and does very well) then you can get out of the contract easier again after 2014.
  13. Yeah, I don't know how you rebuild the defense, while also getting a new QB, which basically is rebuilding the offense at the same time. I actually would NOT sign Cutler to a long-term deal. I'd franchise him and draft a QB. Best case, Cutler is amazing and you sign him long-term after 2014 while you develop a good QB you can potentially trade. Worst case, Cutler gets hurt again and you let him walk after 2014, and you have an experienced, cheap guy with experience coming in.
  14. Why do you do an all out blitz on a 4th and 8!?!?!?!?! I was prepared to give Tucker a 2nd chance due to injuries and let him revamp the defense/get his type of players in the offseason, but he should be fired tomorrow morning. Yeah and the team had covered pretty decently all game. Time was on your side. If they convert make a tackle and force them to kick a long-ish FG on your shitty ass field.
  15. Doubt it. He will get a lot of interest (read Dallas).
  16. Bears pick 14th.
  17. The line. Average safety play is much more easy to come by and live with if you are getting the proper pressure and run support in your front 4/front 7. Do the Bears have a pretty optimistic cap outlook? I really hope so because I think even if you went all out in the draft, its not enough to restock our D next year. Yeah cap looks good. Of course the Bears have about 30 free agents and no QB as of right now. Thankfully most are on defense.
  18. podlesh Yes, how did I forget that mediocre piece of [expletive]. He's not [expletive] mediocre.
  19. This is just not fair. [expletive] sack fumble TD. Best defensive IF in the league botches an easy double play ball. Not [expletive] fair.
  20. Horrible call to blitz.
  21. That's 3 on Alshon.
  22. :-o so many missed tackles.
  23. I called that [expletive]! I knew they were going to overplay the back shoulder.
  24. FYI, the Bears have played nickel every play. Bostic hasn't seen the field.
