  1. I'm starting to go down this road of thought also. My main concern is that Nix is 330lbs with a bad knee. That's a lot of weight. About 35-40 lbs more than Melton, with his knee issues. Hageman may not ultimately be a reach at 14, because I think if the Bears don't grab him, he'll probably still go in the teens. I don't think it's going to be a situation where they can trade down and still get Hageman if he's the target.
  2. Long is a cool dude. He'd definitely be entertaining based on his twitter feed. I'd watch just for the Cutler, Marshall, Unicorn conversations. I saw Briggs in a nightclub/bar the Friday night before the horrible Texans loss to keep the Bears out of the playoffs the final week a few years ago. He was pretty dull there. Just sat in the tiniest VIP area I've ever seen with 2 mediocre looking bitches and eating chicken wings. Got there early, left early.
  3. Smart move and I'm very happy with his decision. Probably going to have their 3rd straight LT drafted in the top 5 next year. That's insane.
  4. The only thing he tweets are quotes from the bible, sponsor related stuff and the occasional reply to somebody wearing his jersey. Alshon seems to be the same way. Alshon almost exclusively tweets the same thing over and over. "Good morning. God bless everyone". Then he talks about South Carolina football.
  5. He checks down too much. He had 2 RBs go over 70 catches. But yeah, I don't think he's lost much. The deep ball thing probably has something to it, but it coincides with the same time his deep threats Meachem and Henderson both fell off. I think Brees may be adjusting to losing a little arm, but he should be fine. It's not like his numbers are suffering at all.
  6. Steelers have the least new coach. Probably will be most interesting of those teams. They're a shoe-in if no volunteers.
  7. Ditto. I swear when he first came up, I would randomly flip to a Sox game and he would get a hit every single time I saw him. I remember counting he was 14-14 before I ever saw him make an out. I believe it went up to 23-26 when I stopped counting.
  8. If he doesn't, he's not doing it right.
  9. Yeah, that was a big issue with the Bears, I think. Swore by Tice and didn't value taking early OL until they were desperate. Killed them when the 2 first round picks both failed. Swore by Marinelli, and took on projects on the DL like Bazuin, Gilbert, and Gaines Adams. Swore by Lovie's ability with DBs (safeties in particular) and figured they could get a lot out of late picks, but guys like Afalava, Payne, Archuleta all failed. I think those egos is why the team didn't win anything. They didn't value early picks (granted traded 2 for Cutler, but traded a high pick for Adams, traded out of the 1st the Hester/Manning year, and took a TE in the 1st).
  10. Where did Jeffery finish? Dunno...it was thrown in the article about their all-pro selections. I don't have access to the full list. IIRC, he was somewhere in the top 15 within the last few weeks of the season. Earl Bennett I believe was higher than Jeffery too. As a whole the Bears got fantastic blocking from their WRs Yeah, Marshall, Bennett and Jeffery were 1, 4, and 9 respectively.
  11. Next year looks to be a good college football season. Not sure who is leaving for FSU or Auburn yet, but both QBs will be back. The Pac-12 looks to be loaded. Oregon is bringing back Mariota. Arizona, USC, Arizona St, Stanford, UCLA, and Washington are all top 25 teams. Ohio St bringing back their QB.
  12. I think Briggs' situation depends on the direction of the D. If they stay 4-3, gotta keep Briggs and let him play out his contract. If there is a drastic change, might as well let him go instead of trying to fit him into a new scheme for 1 year.
  13. Close enough. Bushrod = a DE. It'll be either Michael Bennett or Johnson IMO. If Johnson is possible, then so is Hardy and I'm not sure why we aren't mentioning him? Is Hardy going to get that much more $$$ than Johnson? Bennett = a CB or S. I think it'll be towards a S since we already re-sign Jennings and then draft a CB early. Not sure if Bears will take a chance on Talib, but Emery does sign guys with character/off the field issues. Slauson = a DT hopefully. Bears should double up on DL in FA like they did on OL last year and still draft one early. I'm going to go: Bushrod $$$- Used on S. TJ Ward. Bennett $$$- Used on DL. Robert Ayers Slauson $$$- Used on LB depth or to resign some of the guys already on the roster.
  14. Wow. That was the rumor, but I never thought he would stay. I thought he had a shot to be drafted by the Bears. He's not very big, but the Bears liked Trufant last year and IEO is a near clone.
  15. He also had a big part in drafting/trading for most of those QBs.
  16. Still, $22.5M this year will make it tough to rebuild the defense quickly without relying solely on the draft. Last year we added Bushrod, Martellus, Slauson, DJ, and Anderson for 8 mill total in cap hits over their 1st year. We've got plenty of room to make impact type moves. Those are the type of moves I think we'll see again this offseason. DJ will probably be back. The big Bushrod money will probably be spent on a DL or S. The Bennett/Slauson money will be spent on depth at CB/LB/DL. Then I think the Bears will draft DL and CB early. Also picking up another young S and LB.
  17. DeAnthony Thomas, Brandin Cooks, Dri Archer, Justin Gilbert was a strong kickoff returner the last few years, TJ Jones. Not really a ton this year, but I'm sure there are several others that can do it.
  18. Yeah, easily. You got the elite talent (Watkins), other 1st round talent (Benjamin, Evans, Lee). And then tons of 2nd day talent. I even like a bunch of guys that can be had on the final day of the draft. Some of them are raw, some will be ready to play right away just don't have elite measurables like the top of the class. Washington- Mizzou, Davis- Tex, Jones- ND, etc.
  19. Munnerlyn was actually reported as imminent to be signed as the nickel last offseason. But then he chose to stay in Carolina. He had a great year this year too. IMO, he's not an option because he's the same size as Jennings. De La Puente will be expensive. If not Garza, I'd see if JD Walton is healthy. Former Broncos OC, who has missed a lot of the last 2 years, but is still pretty young. Was cut and picked up late in the year by someone, not sure who. Linval Joseph is great. I'd love him. Also would allow the Bears to go after a guy like Kony Ealy instead of a DT. And I think DE may be a bigger need, but it's also deeper (and more expensive) in free agency. I was a huge Nate Allen fan in that draft (we got Major Wright, he was well off the board). But he's been flat out terrible at times and solid at others. I'd take him, but not sure he'd be much different from Conte, assuming Conte is better again with a better from 7.
  20. IU WR, Cody Latimer is going pro. He's a good talent, but should have stayed. Probably 3rd day pick, hopefully it's early.
  21. Local opinion is that Lewis has an extra long leash because he's willing to work for the owner, who is reportedly a nightmare. If they fire Lewis, the feeling is that no one would be willing to take the job Its still an NFL job. The Raiders, Browns, Redskins and Cowboys have never gone coachless, Cincy wouldn't either.
  22. 3 of 4 decided by a FG also. I could see the exact same next week or complete and utter domination by the home teams and SF.
  23. He could fit in a hybrid D or as a 4-3 OLB ala Von Miller. But yeah, I'm not really a fan. He's really tiny for a guy who's primary skill is pass rushing.
  24. Feel bad for Browns fans if they hire McDaniels and draft Manziel at 4. Its like they're trying to lose.
  25. Cutler's deal apparently can be restructured at any point during the deal. So the Bears will have a way to get money if they need it. I guess the deal was offered so they could continue to negotiate beyond the deadline the franchise tag allows. Otherwise, seems really odd to take a cap hit 4mil more than a tag would have.
