    Javy 1st pitch bunt out back to the pitcher in the 9th inning of a tie game. UGH! Bryant's 0-4 though with 2 Ks.

    They have done a good job drafting, so they got that going for them. Is there a good site for hockey contract details? When are Hossa, Saad, and Crawford, Keith, Seabrook up?

    Sczcur with a leadoff double, to 3rd on a passed ball. Then Watkins, Javy and Bryant all K stranding him. Javy swinging the other 2 looking.

    Not exactly uncommon to give a player an day off the day before the team has an off day for two days of rest. Yeah, my biggest issue was the 2-days off after just 2 days of playing. But I ultimately don't care. Hamstring issues for both and they'll get plenty of ABs the rest of this year and maybe in the AFL for both.

    He needs to work on his CF defense He has the spring/winter to do that. He's needed at 2B right now. Other than Castro/Rizzo, the IF is Barney, Olt, and Valbuena for 2 spots, and 2 of them shouldn't be playing at all.

    There's no reason for him to go back down. They don't even have a backup IF on the roster (other than Olt). Get rid of one of the 72 pitchers (though it would probably be Parker again, which is just cruel to him).

    My former stepdad looked just like Chuck McElroy. A lot of people thought Mike Singletary, because he was built like a linebacker (although short), but he looked exactly like a heavier McElroy.

    Rickey Henderson style. Walks up to Olerud in Toronto (I think) and says, "Hey why u wear a helmet on defense? This dude in New York used to do that too." " Yes Rickey, that was me." Rickey is a Hall of Famer so [expletive] teammates if Javy is that good.

    If u are like me and thought "damn Dae Eun Rhee has been around forever". But I could have sworn he had been in AAA before. But 609 innings before he made his Iowa debut.

    Bailing him out of what? Hamels is really good and only signed through his age 34 season. If we can get him without giving up our top end guys, I'd be all for it. It's like if we could give Lester a 4 year $94M deal. I'd do that in a second. i realize it seems like my last two posts conflict with one another, but that's because we have one guy talking about trading top 5 prospects in the game and another talking about him like he's an albatross. 4/94 seems like a lot, but it's really not when nobody else on the team is making any real money. And yeah, better get a prospect discount because of taking on his contract. And the Phillies are in a position where they just need young bodies somewhere on that team. I don't know that I'd give up Alcantara, but the Phils could really use a guy like him with some versatility and hopefully become what a young Jimmy Rollins was as a hitter.

    I never really got gaga over Sandberg or Grace. I liked Dawson and Sosa a ton, but not to the point of obsession either. Like I said in the last post, Dunston was probably "my guy" out of every Cub ever. And I'm not sure I know why.

    I modeled my (brief) baseball career after Shawon. I used to pat the ball in my glove to get a grip while I gunned the ball wildly to 1st (I played 3B). I also used to swing as hard as I possibly could at everything in hopes of ocassionally hitting it.

    How does Russell compare to say, Machado and Boegarts?

    I'd definitely like to trade James Russell. Think he'd bring back much? It's not going to be anywhere near a Sean Marshall return.

    Yeah, if I'm the Cubs, I'm done trading for the most part unless someone wants Schierholz, RP- Russell, or Barney. I don't think there's anyone else on the roster who I'd be willing to trade that's even worth trading.

    I think McCarthy would be an interesting option for the 2015 Cubs, on a 1-2 year deal. He still doesn't walk many people. His K rate is the highest its ever been this year. His BABIP against him is around .350 (worst of his career), and he's giving up way too many HRs. Not sure what his velocity is like this year, but he does have an injury history.

    And Samardzija shuts their asses down in his first start. I wonder if a tiny part of the A's trade was A) to give both pitchers away so the Jays would get neither or B) done in time to have Shark pitch against them to rub it in.

    Daytona with 2 games to get rained out today. McKinney's debut will come sometime around August 15th.
