  1. Bryant RF, Baez 2B, Russel 3B, Alcantara CF. Alcantara CF, Russell 3B, Rizzo 1B, Bryant RF, Castro SS, Soler LF, Baez 2B, Castillo C This could conceivably happen by this time next year. Like for real. Not even best case scenario projections. [expletive] yeah!
  2. Only game in that league to be ppd.
  3. Johnson 7 1/3, 1 hit, 2 BBs, 5 Ks. 11 groundouts, 1 fly out, 1 infield pop out. 92 pitches.
  4. Pierce thru 7. 85 pitches. Only 2 balls have left the infield. One was the only hit.
  5. Changed to a double and an error. BUT HE [expletive] WALKED IN THE FIRST INNING! !!
  6. Larry Hughes
  7. I don't see any. He's a player/coach and I think the Cubs value the "coach" part more than the player part. I think if Baez or Soler were to come up to the majors this year, Manny might be able to come along as like an escort, but I don't see it this year. What if has a 1500 OPS the next 2 months? And a couple current OF get hurt? He's been playing about 1 in every 3-4 days since playing in games (Mesa before Iowa included). I don't think he'll get enough ABs to warrant a callup even if he dominates those ABs. He's also not on the 40-man. So, even if a couple OF get hurt, you still have Alcantara, Vitters, Jackson, Szczur, and Watkins all who have played the OF, ahead of him. Still have Bonafacio coming back at some point. One of those guys can easily be removed to make room for Manny, but I think all but Jackson would get a shot before Manny unless we're talking September.

  9. I agree for the most part, but it's not like Soler is a pitcher that has had a torn rotator cuff. He's missed games for a variety of crazy reasons (bat wielding, multiple hamstrings, dislocated shoulder I believe). And when he has played, he's been pretty good. But I have no problem with someone not liking the guy that much.
  10. His nickname (on his BR page) is "Big game James". Also, he threw 5.2 innings of shutout ball in a world series, picking up the only win his team would get in that series. If KC makes it in the playoffs this year, he'll get a ton of credit for being that team's #1 pitcher. I don't put any stock into this, but I still have a hard time believing there won't be a GM (or 2 or 3) that will give him an 80-100Mil contract based on that type of stuff. Hell, it could be argued that KC gave up one of the best prospects in baseball for him based on that type of stuff. Who cares what his nickname is? His most recent playoff appearance was 2011 and he gave up 7 ER in 5 IP. Nobody is going to base their judgement on his ability on 2008. You can't just discount a nickname like Big Game James. You just can't!

  12. I don't want to go too off topic, but I don't trust James Shields at all. Yeah, don't want Shields at all. And he'll likely get paid a ton based on reputation. Don't trust him? Reputation? What? James Shields fWAR: 2007: 4.3 2008: 3.9 2009: 3.5 2010: 1.7 2011: 4.5 2012: 3.9 2013: 4.5 With the exception of his outlier 2010 (when he had a .341 BABIP) and his rookie year when he played a partial season, he's averaged 4.1 fWAR a year. And 4.3 fWAR the last 3 years. He's also averaged 222.4 innings over the last seven seasons. He's extremely durable and very effective. If you don't trust James Shields or don't understand his reputation then I'm not sure what else to say. He's a good pitcher. If you see anywhere I said I don't trust him or don't understand his reputation then you can't read well. Reputation = past performance. Never said it wasn't earned, just that I think the odds of him living up to his contract (which will likely be 4-5 years long) is very slim.

  14. Meh. Only a single to put the tying run in scoring position.
  15. Bryant up with a chance to walk off.
  16. Right now I'd say so. Ask me again in January and I may change my mind. A 16 point to 50 point guy seems more than slight to me. Did he score 50 last year? I was under the impression he was near the end.

  18. Slight upgrade from Handzus?
