Isn't that Ryan Sweeney? I don't see much value in this type of thing. I'd love to have a good veteran on this team, not for the veteraness but for the goodness. Yeah, I a vet that allows the Cubs to hedge their bets against one or more of the kids falling on their faces in 2015 and beyond. Ideally, that would be a guy that can play CF and corner OF and wouldn't bitch too much if/when he is riding the pine if all/most of the kids do perform well.
To be fair, "in position" and Cobb probably doesn't score. Whether he's the best FS on the roster or not, I have every right to flip tables at the mention of his name. Definitely, flip tables he was horrible last year. But he did have 3 INTs (a big one early in that last game) and a forced fumble last year. None of the other guys at FS have shown they can be in position to make turnovers, just tackles. Of course, 1 is a rookie and the other has never started in his career.
I feel like every Iowa loss this year has been due to a former Cubs prospect having a big game against them. Ronny Cedeno 2-4 last night. Brett Jackson with a 3-run HR in his first game against the Cubs.
The ESPN Bears guys have no clue what is happening. I saw a projected roster on ESPN the other day and it was probably more off than it would be with me guessing. Had them keeping 10 OL, which may have never been done in league history. No Chris Williams. No Santonio. Austen Lane over the young DEs, Bass and Washington. Oh and the long snapper was the dude that just got cut.
Last year's version was just a guy. But it's not out of the realm of possibility (and close to probable if healthy) that he is better this year than he was last year as a 5th round pick out of a small school.
Britton's hurt too. I think Mills will be back before he will. Michael Ola would start at RT, presumably, if both are out. He's done a good job in preseason so far. And he's young enough to make it interesting if he plays well to start. I think Mills will be there for the opener though. Feels like they are "saving" him. Surgery in January. He has practiced in camp. He did go thru minis.
I love Kyle. He may have the best combination of strength and athletic ability of any OG in the NFL. But that's juts not true. Long wasn't even the best rookie guard in the division last year, Larry Warford was for Detroit. I feel like this list is part historical (Brady, Willis), part based on 2013 season only (Patterson), and part is projection (Long).
Just heard this on the radio this morning. I've been done with Ditka for a while, but this just cements it. The guy is a moron and an embarrassment. He's not a moron. He's just old. Old people are [expletive] crazy. He's old and a moron. Being old isn't an excuse. A) He thinks what he thinks because he's old B) He has the nerve to state his crazy opinion because he's old. I don't think he would have said that 20 years ago.

Kyle Schwarber has had a 3-21, 2-15, and a 3-20 slump in the last month. But you'd never know it because between and since those 3 slumps he's gone: 16-38, 7 doubles, and 3 HRs
Make that 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K Also, just noticed Schwarber has a 29/23 K/BB at Daytona. 80 pitches. I'd love to see him start the 6th with the bullpen up. But he's out. Surprisingly only had 2 walks when he threw 1/2 those pitches out of the zone.
We don't want to hear it because it's not true. such a weird, weird thing to say for so many reasons Yea not sure where that even came from. I don't know. Haven't really followed the non-important players in the majors this year. Man, the Cubs OF is really bad. That was so wrong of me to say. Next year's Cubs OF should be better even if they had to play me in LF.
Torrez, Tseng, Martinez, Underwood, Blackburn, Skulina, Stinnett, Norwood, Williams all could have a claim to a high A rotation spot. And that doesn't include Paniagua who'll be 25 with only single digit starts above low A.
Yeah, I fail to see the craaaaaaazy part of that previous statement. 55Mil+, assuming for 5 years is about what I expected. If it's only 4 years, that's still doable. Probably going to pay someone lesser similar annually (maybe not as many years) if they sign an OF. doubtful Bryant / Contra / Soler As of 8/19/14, Bryant is a 3B with nobody of great substance blocking him and Alcantara hasn't hit very well at all. Nobody wants to hear this, but that's still a 95 loss OF on paper if that's what the Cubs open with or plays the majority of the season with.

By wide open you mean Michigan State is now the heavy favorite with a chance OSU can rebound and slight chance for Michigan. By wide open I think he meant that he forgot divisions changed.
That's just ignorant. With all the potential arms at high A next year (current guys @ high A repeating, loaded low A rotation moving up, tons of college arms from Boise) does Tseng have a legit shot to start next year in AA?
Got tickets to the only 5pm Sunday start of the season (January 18 vs. the Stars). Sounded like a great idea for bringing very young kids that go to bed around 8, but just realized that could conflict with a possible 2pm NFC championship game for the Bears. Wonder if that actually happened if they would move the Hawks game back an hour or so? I hope this is something I have to worry about. That happened in 2011 when Bears played GB at 2pm. Hawks were supposed to play Philadelphia at 2pm, so they moved the game to 1130am. I remember listening to that game on my phone as I was walking around Soldier Field to get to my seat. The Hawks got killed and the Bears lost. SOB Ha! I was at that game too. Sat in front of an obnoxious female Packer fan who sounded like she smoked 4 packs of cigarettes a day for 40 years. I turned around and she was about 25 years old. Terrible day. That's every female Packers fan ever. FWIW, I believe it would be the NFC's turn for the "late" championship game this year so potentially could have games at the exact same time. Guessing Hawks get moved to earlier if that's the case.
Things that come with the territory when you're like the worst defense ever. Part of it is Hester would run things out deeper in the endzone than anyone else. Part is teams punting away from him. Part is teams never punting because the defense couldn't stop them.
Pretty crazy, the Bears had fewest punt returns (18) last year as a team. League average was 34.2. They (Hester) returned 70 kickoffs, most in the league. Average was just over 40. The Bears were 10th in average field position. Other than finishing 23rd in averaging starting field position in 2011, the Bears were top 3 every other year since 2008.
