7 pitchers. Wouldn't call it deep though. Ideally, Arrieta and only 2 of those others start the season in the rotation, unless one turns awesome in the next 2 months
Hard throwing, works low-to-mid 90s, hits mid-to-high 90s. Not as good of a feel for pitching yet, but good peripherals. Strikes out people. Walks some people.
which one is Blackburn? The one that I used to mix up with Underwood. Good numbers in Low A, but doesn't throw overly hard or K people. Good feel for pitching. Young version of Hendricks.
I see this as a very good sign for Wilson's injury. If they were worried about not having Marquess for like 8 weeks into the regular season, then I'd imagine they would have signed someone better than a guy who's going to be in the first wave of cuts.
It is a good thing, but he's been done since last season. He was a long shot when the Cubs got him (which is why they got him). He didn't hit in AAA. Got handed the ML job, and didn't hit. He has the 3 best IF prospects in baseball on his heels, the same IF that has the ML team's 2 best players. And if Bryant and Rizzo are at the corners, there's really no place for him to get ABs, other than pinch hitting and he doesn't put the bat on the ball enough to be counted on in that role.
I'll be optimistic about a team that brings in a solid FA starter 2/3 to slot behind Arrieta, another reclamation project on the Hammel level, and guys like Wood, Straily, Hendricks, Turner, and Doubront fighting it out for the last 2 spots.
The AAA success just shows me that Olt's vision was a serious issue in previous years and that he couldn't hit major league pitching, because he's just not that good.
Either one of Jackson or Hendricks has to be more talented. Either the guy with the stuff who sucks at pitching or the guy who is really good at pitching with lesser stuff. Better stuff than Hendricks. (Slightly) Less sucky than Jackson.
Man, I'd easily trade for Turner. I'd give them an actual prospect with a chance. A Marco Hernandez type or a Daury Torrez type if I had to. Turner would be the 2nd most talented arm (starter wise) in the organization above AA.
He was asked yesterday about getting fined and said, "I can afford it". But he seems like the type of player who a coach can "lose" by suspending him. Not really the type to change his attitude/personality to assimilate into the team. He said something about not going to camp to make friends.
In 7 years, across competition levels he's only thrown 44 pitches to LH hitters? I'm going to guess those are just MLB pitches, and the time frame was just set that way by default.
Every single one has involved either Bennett or Lamarr Houston. The only ones I remember last year were Marty too, including taking on the entire secondary at one point last year. Martellus clearly has some issues. But it doesn't show up on game day. he must flip a switch when he steps onto a football field because i can't really imagine that guy getting in a fight. i'm certain of the fact that Fuller being a rookie was the main catalyst. Houston is a newcomer. it may have something to do with turf or initiation. Houston is known to be a max effort guy. Actually, I think him and Bennett are opposites which is why the fights. I think Houston goes too hard at practice (and it's probably calmed down some since he's not been involved in anything for a week or so). And I think Bennett goes too soft and gets upset when someone is overdoing it in his eyes. Basically if everyone goes 75% in practice, Houston goes 100%, Bennett goes 50%, so anytime someone is overly aggressive it's going to be an issue of "what are you doing? trying to hurt me?" Edit: and this is no issue on game day because everyone is going 100% all the time.

Having said that, god forbid if it's an option between weirdo bennett or kellen davis Man, [expletive] Kellen Davis. I feel/felt about him the way most Bears fans feel about Conte. funny thing is that both are known for dropping the ball in big moments, amirite I still can't figure out how that ball went thru Conte's hands late in the GB game.

FWIW, I really liked the Josh Morgan pickup. He's been a solid #3 WR in the past, basically putting up better numbers than Earl Bennett did last year pretty consistently. He hasn't had a great camp though, from most accounts. Wouldn't hurt to bring back Bennett, but you can see how guys do for the next couple weeks along with how the injury is progressing. I'm sure Earl will be available Week 3-4 of preseason still.
