  1. If you're thinking along those lines go with: Burrell (LF) - Jones (CF) - Murton (RF) --OR-- Burrell (LF) - Pie (CF) - Sheffield (RF) Scary defense, but how many runs would it really cost you? Pagan makes a passable late-innings defensive replacement. i've never understood how crappy hitters that are little and fast get labeled good defenders regardless of their actual ability. pagan is a hack out there. not that i care about late inning defensive replacements. how is 6'1 little? as far as his defense goes, inside pitch's scouting report would disagree with your assement: http://mets.scout.com/2/490089.html
  2. and to think that the angels might have been willing to give a package of santana, izturis & aybar for aram just a few short months ago. if he walks it will be a calamity of epic proportions.
  3. If you can spell catalanotto then you're not going to have a problem spelling murton, lee, aram, or pinch hitting now are you? thats what you think! i cut and pasted frank's name. besides i said "he" not "i" get with the program!
  4. i think i would rather see the cubs go after catalanotto. he can spell murton, lee and (hopefully!) aram along with pinch hitting.
  5. 11.4 Million for a .498 SLG %. I think any team would be looking to dump that like a bad habit. aside from his contract, as i indicated in my original post they have several rookies like either & kemp ready to start in the OF to go along with anderson. who knows if they would be willing to trade drew but he does make an awfully large amount of $ at a position which they have several prospects ready to take over.
  6. where would you prefer the much needed offense to come from? i don't love soriano or anything, but he's the best hope for making this offense respectable. i would much rather see drew in cf for the cubs than soriano. As would I but Drew may cost the Cubs plenty in prospects as Soriano will just cost money, especially if the Cubs lose Ramirez they'll need all the assets to get a 3rd baseman. Hendry has some very good options and if he screws this one up he deserves the boot. i dont know that to be true. the dogers have several good young Of guy like either & kemp that are ready to take his place and they might take less than you think to lose drew's large contract. they need some lefties in the bullpen so maybe eyre & ohman might be enough for drew. i know it's a longshot but stranger things have happened.

  8. i kind of like the sound of a 2007 rotation of: z schmidt hill kurodas miller
  9. i think they might settle on a 75 mil (5/15) contract if aram wants to stay a cub.
  10. hill was between 90 & 92 the last month + with the cubs and might have had a few 94's himself. how is lilly's occasional 94 "much harder" than hill's?
  11. I don't know, could anybody who heard the Murph show tell us the gist of what was said. Or was it just Murph "I think Sandberg will be the new 1st base coach". .? he mentioned it on his show during my lunch hour but the way he said it makes me think he might know something from the inside. it might have something to do with ryno calling hendry about managing and ryno saying that he wants to get back into baseball again. he said it like it was a done deal but also said that it was his opinion. if nothing comes of it then i will just write him off as being another radio goof.
  12. the prelude to a bench spot in 2007? he can play 3b, 1b & lf all for guys who (hopefully in aram's case) bat righty.
  13. the cubs dont have much value anywhere else on the major leauge level other than the bullpen. i wonder how healthy the 1st two are going to be next year looking at how overworked they were in 2006. the cubs just need guys like aardsma & rapada to step up if they do trade eyre & howry.
  14. That's a good place to start for him. i think so too. there's not to much damage he can do at 1b (unlike 3b or hitting coach). i'm glad he wants to get back in baseball. between ryno & trammell, the cubs would have a wealth of knowledge for their middle infielders to draw on.
  15. murph on the score seems to think that ryno will be the next 1b coach for the cubs. not a bad idea imo since he wants to get back into the game. he can certainly help guys like theriot & ep.
  16. it is if you want to manage in the big leauges some day. unless he has major leauge experience as a player, i dont think many teams if any would give him a shot with only minor leauge experience. even gullien who played in the majors had to coach a few years with the marlins before he made the leap to manager. same thing with girardi.
  17. perhaps it might be wise to trade both of these guys in order to fill some holes. the bullpen should be a strength going into 2007 and both these guys were way overworked in 2006 imo and are injuries waiting to happen. maybe the dodgers would take ohman & eyre for drew and i wonder if the red sox would take howry for kottaras (seeing as how papelbon wants to start next year)? they have rapada, piggy, pavlik & campusano from the left side and atlee, holdzkom and cherry (if he's healthy) from the right side to go along with wuertz, aardsma & hopefully wood. i also think that marmol should be switched to closing at iowa instead of starting.
  18. they are probably not options coming out of spring training but if guys like aardsma & dempster falter or in case of injuries, they might not be too far back on the depth chart to get a shot. assuming wood will be signed and one or both of howry & eyre are traded, that still leaves a few spots open. guzman, mateo & marshall need to be starting and marmol should be switched to closing at iowa imo.
  19. Not so much Piggy, but Rapada certainly deserves a long look on making the big league team this coming spring (and the 40-man this December). pignatello had a very good year at aa and started out well in iowa too. he might be an option becasue as a former starter he would make a good long man out of the pen. they also have campusano from the left side and holdzkom & harben from the right as possibilities for 2007.
  20. i have a wonder if the cubs will trade eyre or ohman and put rapada & pignatello in the pen in 2007? perhaps the dodgers would be interested in them for drew.
  21. from mlb.com: "Type C Major League free agents will no longer carry draft pick compensation for the club that loses the player, beginning this year, while Type A and Type B free agents will continue to carry compensation. Next year the Type A and Type B pools shrink. Right now, Pool A is the top 30 percent at their position, but in succeeding with decrease to 20 percent. Pool B is the top 50 percent, but it will decrease from 21 percent to 40 percent. 22. i think you are thinking of tony pena who caught for the pirates and managed the royals. pendelton was a switch hitting 3rd baseman not a catcher.

  24. No, we are using statistical evidence to back up our argument, and mg420 is simply saying "no". There's a large difference there. of course every one knows that statistics are the only thing that really matter in baseball and there is no way to interpret them to your advantage. all hail the mighty numbers!
