  1. hendry wrapped up lee in a similar situation so i'm not worried about aram. the fact that the cubs will have a boatload of $ (which will allow them to overpay for aram-4years @ 15 mil?) and no true replacement at 3b points to soem kind of agreement in principal that will be finalized soon after the end of the season.
  2. right. loss of a step in speed = going from hitting .290 in the majors to not being able to hit in college with an aluminum bat. that statement makes a whole lot of sense.
  3. isn't football season over yet? how many more days until the winter meetings?
  4. you are not factoring in the impact the prospects the cubs would trade could have on the team. the blue jays would most likely want to be overpaid prospect wise for wells because of the season he had. i dont think the $ would be the issue here.
  5. Might need to have an alternate closer waiting in the wings, though. If his arm can't handle the pounding having 5 days of rest, how will it handle having to pitch, say, every day for 3 days and then another 2 after 1 day of rest in between? That's the life of a closer at times. Not that I don't want him. Just saying. howry can close. marmol needs to be switched to the pen in 2007 imo too so they might as well try him at closing in iowa.
  6. That's not likely to happen. I'm hoping he makes all his starts. Throws 190 innings and has an ERA around 4.....give or take .25 runs. likely or not he has the talent to do so if he stays healthy.
  7. what would it take to get wells though? i wouldnt want to see them give up pie, ep, veal or gallagher and hill is obviously not going anywhere.
  8. somehow i think ep is way ahead of cedeno as a 2b prospect. i think they will trade cedeno in the offseason.
  9. will carroll just said that hill is a #5 starter on rain dely theater. i wonder if he's been watching hill this past month?
  10. Amazing young talent? Is this a joke? Reggie Abercrombie? Dan Uggla (a utility infielder and career minor leaguer before his 2006 anomoly?) Willingham? Mitre? Nolasco? Come on, these guys aren't "amazing talent". Sure, you can say that about Hanley Ramirez, Miguel Cabrera, Willis, and possibly Amezaga, but not the entire team. Not even close. Nolasco is having a really, really good year. Uggla is a good 2B. Willingham has a ton of talent. You mentioned Ramirez, Cabrera, Willis, Amezaga. Josh Johnson is really really good. Anibal Sanchez. Do I really need to go on? They have a ton of talent. he's got a 4.56 era. he was very effective early on but has been hit hard of late.

  12. nice changeup. if he can get that over look out!
  13. the cubs have tried that route already several times. his mechanics & injury history show that he most likely wont be able to start & stay healthy on a consitant basis. the jury is still out on whether he can stay healthy in the pen as a closer.
  14. i still like marshall & mateo in the rotation perhaps as soon as next year. they have guys like pignatello, rapada, marmol & harben for the pen. who knows what will happen to guzman. he sure has looked brutal this year. Marshall and Mateo are both #5 starters at best. If both of them are in the rotation next year, there will be some serious problems. marshall probably needs to start in the minors next year to work on his control. if mateo is the #5, marshall (along with gallagher & veal) would be there to back him up in case he tanks.

  16. there has been some talk of this. i thought he should have been in the pen all year anyway. if he doesnt need yet another surgery, would he be a better option than dempster? i also think that marmol should be switched to the pen in aaa next year.
  17. probably a little of both. but just think of what could be if prior could get & stay healthy (or at least get it out of his head that he is injured). z, prior & hill would be a really tough 1-2-3 punch.
  18. murph on the score had an interesting stat from stats inc today. in hill's 1st 5 starts this year he ranked 117th out of 120 compared to the top 4 starters on each team in the majors. the last 5 starts had him ranked #1 out of 120.
  19. What gives you the impression that Theriot can perform at an Eckstien level? Eckstein in college and with the exception of one half season in the minors posted OBP in excess of 400. Theriot has not come close to that. Why do you think Theriot projects to have those numbers other than the fact he's scrappy and white like Eckstein? The cost of your team if you get Wells or Jones will greatly exceed mine. If I could get Wells or Jones, I would as well. I still wouldn't get Padilla and if I had those, I'd likely pursue Durham which would still be a better option than Theriot. I like Ryan. As an LSU fan, I hope he will suceed as a Cub, but there's nothing in his history that projects to anything like what Eckstein has done. Your hopes for Theriot are based on a measley 100 AB's. It's pie-in-the-sky thinking. Cedeno has just as much liklihood of becoming Tejada as Theriot has of becoming Eckstein. this has to be one of if not the silliest things i've seen on this board. it translates to theriot has as much chance to post an ops of .707 as cedeno does of posting a .821.
  20. NO! YOU CANT LIKE HIM! HE DOESNT HAVE THE MINOR LEAUGE #'S! YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY INSANE! THE #'S TELL ALL!
  21. Since we're handing out jobs based on small sample sizes, Ronny is hitting .314/.352/.451 in over 50 September plate appearances. cedeno still wouldnt be starting ahead of theriot with those #'s so its a moot point at best.
  22. scouting report from stats inc: "Of course, the best part of Izturis' game is his magnificient defense, where he has almost no weaknesses. He has great range to either side and gets to more balls up the middle than perhaps any shortstop in baseball. Izturis also has plenty of arm to throw from the hole, and his footwork is magical around the second-base bag." i think their assement carries a little more weight than your opinion.
  23. I like Theriot, but even remotely comparing him to a Sandberg at this stage is absurd. Hoping that he'll develop the same way a Hall of Famer did is beyond wishful thinking. i think you have missed the point. it was an example and not a comparision.
  24. sandbergs best year in the minors powerwise had him hitting 11 hr in 490 ab's and he hit a total of 24 in 4 years. not much there to indicate a 40 hr season and 282 lifetime hr's either is there? minor leauge #'s are not the end all and be all of indicators. players do sometimes exceed the production they had in the minors when they play in the big leagues. and btw, theriot is not much smaller than ryno-5-11 175 vs 6-2 180.
  25. look at oakland, the twins, st louis, detroit, & boston as far as 2b & ops.
