  1. i too think this is the way to go. they could probably get iwaga, iwamura and roberts for the price of matsuzaka alone.
  2. i think drew would be a great fit in rf for the cubs. if they can get roberts for cf, drew for lf, imarwura to play 2b and igawa & miller as the #4 & 5 starters, i think 2007 will be a very good year. a line up of : roberts cf theriot ss lee 1b aram 3b drew rf murton lf igawa 2b barrett c sounds very solid imo.
  3. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20061106&content_id=1735150&vkey=pr_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc now they need to name a hitting coach.
  4. what about Igawa? here are a few youtube links from the cubs.com board. could the cubs have 3 lefties starting in 2007 with hill, lilly & Igawa? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnRDkoDLf60 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hET1d_z3Jr8
  5. i was interested in seeing the cubs get lilly last year before he went to the jays. the only issue with him is that i believe he give up a lot of fly balls. he does have good stuff though and i cant remember the last time the cusb had 2 qualty lefties in the starting rotation. now the schmidt seems to be out of the picture and zito was never in the picture, lilly might not be a bad choice (depending on what kind of $ he is looking for).
  6. i hope they get involved. how many other teams are interested in him? i can see a middle if of theriot at ss & Iwamura at 2b. he would probably be a better option than many of the other guys available.
  7. do the ray's have a ss? maybe they would be interested in cedeno & marshall for rocco if he's available.
  8. .he would be a great pickup if he is on the block. if they could get him for marshall & nova they'd have to do the deal. my guess is that he would be much more expensive than that though.
  9. it would be tempting. i wonder if the bo sox would give up kottaras for howry or eyre?
  10. Well, if the Cubs want to strive for 83 wins next year, they can model their team after the 2006 Cardinals. Frankly, I don't think 83 wins will equal a postseason appearance next year, so I'd prefer to sign and/or trade for guys that are better offensively than Figgins. If he can be acquired for little in return, I have no problem with Figgins in a super-sub role, outside of the fact that he's terrible defensively as an infielder. I'd prefer the Cubs don't deal a lot for him and then count on him to be the starting CF or 2B. If the Cubs are going to make a deal with the Angels for someone with some versatility, deal Izturis for his brother. that is a silly corollation imo. the cards only won 83 games because of key injuries to guys like puljos, roland, izzy & edmunds not because they had eckstein at ss.
  11. eckstein career obp .351 figgins career obp .345
  12. instead of trading the farm for wells, maybe the cubs should trade for wilkerson to play cf. i dont know what his problems last year were but he did have some good years with the expos and maybe going back to the NL would help him. he might be able to get back to form and have a 25 hr/.800+ ops year.
  13. Figgins is also Pierre with about twice as many walks, and a few more runs scored. And a bit more power. I'd take Figgins over Pierre any day. He's a better player, with more versatility. Only problem is we need more run production from our outfield. He's not worth the player cost. We don't have much in the way of tradeable assets to work with; I'd rather save what we have for a better player. This is what worries me. Hendry trading assets away for mediocre players and leaving himself with nothing left for an impact player. Get those impact players first and then piddle around for players like Figgins. you're right. i guess mediocre cast offs like podsednik & eckstein weren't a big part of their respective teams success. When the Cubs have a Pujols, Edmonds and Rolen to surround the Ecksteins that would be fine but they don't. You take the mediocre players and I'll take the impact guys and we'll see who does better. i guess lee, aram (hopefully) & barrett dont count for anything then.
  14. if they cubs trade hill they deserve to lose.

  16. if they are going to move ep, they should do it in spring training imo. i say move him to cf and pie to rf. i also think that fox should give 3b a shot instead of catching. marmol should move to closing in iowa too instead of starting.
  17. if they would want him, it wouldn't be a bad idea as long as the cubs are confident that howry can close. I'm pretty confident that Wuertz can close. he wouldnt be a bad option either. i just worry about his drop in stuff when he works on 3 or more consecutive days. for some his slider flatens out and his fastball is noticably less fast when he is used too much. he certainly has the stuff to be an effective closer.
  18. A .345 career OBP (.336 this season) does not make for a good leadoff hitter. i disagree 2006 plaoff team's regular season leadoff obp: cards .350 detroit .335 padres .360 mets .354 oakland .367 yankees .359 dodgers .369 Not sure how you can post that list and still disagree. All of those, except for Detroit, were well above what Figgins did this season. his career obp is .345 with a career high of .352 which is within close range of every one of those listed.

  21. and a better arm and not stuck in center field and about 3 mil cheaper. And he may cost the Cubs some quality young players just like Pierre. I just don't see Hendry doing this with Pie being a year away from ready. according to this article the angels might be looking for bullpen help for figgens: http://www.latimes.com/sports/baseball/mlb/dodgers/la-sp-angels2nov02,1,867262.story?coll=la-headlines-sports-mlb-dodger i wonder if ohman & novoa would be enough to get chone. he steals 50 bases, put up a .750 ops & play just about everywhere. he would be a good fit in cf and leading off next year imo.
  22. with the lack of starters the mets have there has to be a reason why he was still in the bullpen (especially with traschel in the rotation). as far as i know he only has 2 quality pitches-fb & change and i dont think he they are overpowering enough to allow him to be able to start consistantly with only those 2.
  23. i would rather see the cubs take a chance on miller as the #5 than trade for heilman. eyre or howry could help net something better than a #5 imo and miller wouldn't cost anything prospect wise. wuretz is going to be a key part of the bullpen in 2007 and beyond imo and it would be a bad move for the cubs to trade him. i also dont see them giving up a hitter like ep for heilman. if eric can find a postion (be it 2b or cf), he will be a valuable major leauge starter imo.
  24. perhaps ep should switch to cf in iowa which then would move pie to rf. i wonder if fox can play 3b as it appears that his catching skills are very limited. i still think that marmol should be switched to closing in iowa next year instead of starting.
