  1. bad trade for the cubs. no idea why they would do this even if they are going to trade eyre. they still have ohman & rapada from the left side. if anything, it should have been novoa for cotts. aardsma has the potential to be a great pitcher out of the pen. whats next, hill for garcia?
  2. I read someplace that his defense was terrible... Someone at all-baseball.com who has been watching the AFL says Patterson's offensive approach is fantastic, almost MLB ready, but that he should be moved to the outfiled now. i also think that it would be a good idea. if they can switch him to cf and pie to rf, they both could be up in the big leagues in 2008. he stats seem to point to a juan pierre type player with a much better (.375-.400) obp. i hope they dont wait too long if indeed his 2b defense is that bad.
  3. I like your proposal a lot, but how about this: Murton - LF Drew - CF Lee - 1B Ramirez - 3B Soriano - 2B Barrett - C Derosa/Jones - RF Theriot - SS Since we're already saddled with Derosa, we might as well put him in the closest situation to success as possible...the right hand side of a platoon. if the cubs do sign soriano, from everything i've read it's almost a lock that they will want him to play cf and not 2b.
  4. the signing of blanco has caused another team to inquire about barrett's availablility: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/columnists/cs-061115whispers,1,4549903.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines
  5. i would rather the cubs keep marshall than trade him for sweaty freddy.
  6. if the cubs do trade for baldelli, they will have a very right handed lineup with jones the only starting lefty. he did have a .871 ops with 16 hr's & 10 sb last year in only 364 ab's. he might be a jason bay type player if the cubs can snag him from the Drays.
  7. i dont think anyone is overating pie. the fact is that he is only 21 and has the tools to be a great offensive player (from all accounts his d is already great) and has only a partial season in aaa. to trade him now would be a huge risk imo. corey was rushed and mis-coached when he got to the majors. i think 2 years at iowa if they can sign dave roberts will make all the difference in the world to his development. i can see a gold glove cf who hits .280 with 20 hr's, steals 50 bases and has an ops of .850 in the majors just as easily as i can see cp #2. When I see predictions like 50 stolen bases, I do think he's being overrated. What's that based on? He had 17 last year (with 11 CS) in 560 at bats. i think that i will rely on people that see these guys every day and do this for a living: http://www.baseballevolution.com/previews/agreenberg.html http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=251&p=8&c=1&nid=2485461
  8. Looks like we are getting Izturis and Derosa next year up the middle. Better be getting a LOT of offense from the outfield if that's the case. The pitchers will like it. My guess is the Murton, Theriot, Cedeno will all be gone for pitching. good ridance to cedeno. i very highly doubt murton or theriot are going anywhere.
  9. I have no idea myself, but I do know that 100 is average for both, and that it takes time period, park factors, etc. into account. ops = on base % + slugging% era = (earned runs/innings pitched) x 9
  10. he was a "B" http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=146264
  11. Yeah, how could you not be fired up over a guy who played major college ball for three years and then put up a tremendous .313 OBP in rookie ball? he started out very slowly, hit a groove in the middle and tired out at the end and he still had a .796 ops. give the guy some time to adapt to the pro's before condeming him to being a washout as he only had 265 ab's. Is this the same guy who was considered the #1 NWL prospect? from what i've read from them, i believe he is still very highly regarded by the scouts. if he has a breakout year in 2007 no one will remember what his 2006 obp was.
  12. believe it or not jim hendry has a little more riding on 2007 and beyond than we do. if the cubs tank again, it will suck but it's not anything we haven't been through before. meanwhile, he will most likely be out of a job. after 2003, i have learned to go with the flow when it comes to the cubs. it only builds frustration because nothing anyone says or does here will ever have the slightest effect on what the cubs do or dont do.

  14. Especially when you have a guy who can do as good or better for $500,000. Theriot might do as well or better. Probably not, though. whose to say that derosa won't start at 2nd and theriot start at ss?

  16. durham is 36 and had a career year. he will most likely get BIG $. i wouldn't be suprised if someone gives him 4 years and 50 mil.
  17. are there actual rumors out about this or is it our wishful thinking? It's wishful thinking. I don't know why Cleveland should want any part of Izturis. i think they do need a ss
  18. are there actual rumors out about this or is it our wishful thinking? just wishful thinking on may part. sorry, i didnt want to start a rumor just give my opinion.
  19. i agree. they do need at least one more starter and 2 would be ideal. i like westbrook and iwaga myself. lilly would be ok too but padilla is too expensive imo. dont know too much about meche.
  20. I like your thinking MG! thank you. i just think that the way to the series will be paved by the strength of the minor leauge system rather than very expensive veterens.
  21. i very much doubt cedeno will start the year in the majors in 2007.
  22. If this situation ends up with Izzy gone and TheRiot at short then I think it's a good move. If the middle infield is Izzy and DeRosa then I pissed, that would require a HUGE boost in production from the OF and I don't see that coming thus far. That would be awsome right there..both good with OBP...Get rid of Izzy.. maybe it's a prelude to sending izzy to cleveland with prospects for westbrook.
  23. I don't love it, I don't hate it. How is he with the glove, anyone know? he seems to be good on d at 2b in 2003 he had a .985 in 29 games and in 2006 had a .993 in 26 games. not enough games to judge him by but it is encouraging. i think it means that the cubs have faith in ep as they can always use him off the bench (although he is way overpaid for a utility guy).
  24. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2661869 13 mil for 3
  25. it sounds like the cubs and drew are not interested in each other and soriano and lee will cost too much in the long run for the production they will put up in the last years of their contracts. i do like the idea of roberts for cf, signing craig wilson to platoon with jones and be a utility player. i also wonder what the indians would want for westbrook as he seems a better fit for the cubs than lilly. i havent heard catallenatto's name mentioned either but he might be a better fit than durham at 2b until ep works out his defensive issues.
